NIT Sikkim Admission Process

National Institute of Technology, Sikkim is also known as NIT Sikkim is among the 10 newly sanctioned NITs by the Government of India under the 11th Five year Plan, 2009.

It was established in August 2010. Admission to the undergraduate courses are conducted on the basis of JEE Main score and for the postgraduate courses, admission is done on the basis of GATE scores.

NIT Sikkim Admission Highlights

  • For UG level B.Tech courses, shortlisting is done on the basis of JEE Mains score. All applicants must have at least 75% marks in 10+2 or 20 percentile marks in 12th class exam in science stream.
  • For PG level M.Tech courses, admission is done based on GATE scores. The candidates having a minimum of 60% marks or 6.5CGPA 6.5 in B. Tech or CSE or IT or ECE or EEE can apply. Otherwise, candidates with a minimum of 55% or CGPA 6.0 in MCA and MSc in Computer Science or  Applied MathMathematics for Computing can apply.
  • For NIT Sikkim PhD admission 2018, candidates need to have a Masters in Engineering or Technology with minimum 65% marks or 7.0 CGPA. Otherwise, a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology with minimum 80% marks or 8.5 CGPA or Basic Science Master degree in Science with minimum 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA. Even,  candidates English Masters in English with 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA are eligible to apply.

NIT Sikkim Admission Procedure

UG Course

To secure a seat in undergraduate Bachelor of Technology, the aspirants must have at least 75% marks in 10+2 (science stream) or top 20 percentile marks in 12th class exam. On the basis of JEE Main and Advance rank and followed by JoSAA counselling the final selection will be done.

PG Course

For getting admission in postgraduate Master of Technology programme the willing candidates must have a B.E or B.Tech degree with a certain CGPA or percentile for different departments. The final selection is done on the basis of GATE score followed by CCMT counselling.

To get admission in PhD course, the candidates must have Masters in Engineering/ Technology with minimum 65% marks or 7.0 CGPA; or Bachelors in Engineering/ Technology with minimum 80% marks or 8.5 CGPA. the final selection will be done on the basis of written test followed by an interview.
