Converting Time
into Marks by following the right sequence of questions is the
key to JEE Main 2016
With just 20 days left for the
Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) 2016, engineering aspirants are tapping in
every effort to qualify for JEE Advanced.

spoke to Mr Vinay Kumar CEO, RAO IIT, about Time Management in the upcoming JEe Main examination. 'Time is Marks' is what he believes is
the way forward while solving the
JEE main exam. Here are some important tips from Mr Vinay Kumar for utilising
every second and converting it into marks during the JEE Main exam.
It is traditionally observed in
JEE Mains that Physics is a difficult section among the three
sections. It is advised to follow a 3 step approach while attempting the paper.
I would recommend the following.
Step 1:
Attempt the exam in a sequence. Chemistry
being the easiest section and the most vast,
it can be attempted first. However, Students who are extremely good in Maths
can opt maths over Chemistry.
If
you starting with Chemistry, follow it with Math, and then Physics.
Step 2:
Go thoroughly through the selected
section- the section you have decided to attempt at any
given time. Could be any of the three sections. Segregate
the easy and the tough questions. Solve all the easy questions at first and do not waste your time on solving the
difficult questions. Then move to the next section. Repeat the same steps and
move to the final section.
Step 3:
Now after solving the easy
questions and securing
(in
your mind) a fixed percentage of marks, have a look
at the questions that you find difficult. Traditionally there are around 20 to
25 tough questions which consume a lot of time. It is now that you have the time
to tackle those difficult questions.
Section wise segregation
Chemistry: In this section there will be questions from Organic Chemistry,
Inorganic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry. The questions pertaining to Organic Chemistry will be in a direct form. If one
has thoroughly revised NCERT's, then they can answer these questions easily.
There will be two to three questions in this section which will be tough to
score. I advise the students not to attempt the question if one is not sure.
Mathematics: The most important section in Mathematics is Algebra. My advice to the
students is to revise this part thoroughly. This part will discreetly have many
questions on it. Priority in JEE Main should be given to Algebra, then
Calculus and then to Co-ordinates.
Physics: Normally there are around 5 to 8 questions which are considered
out-of-the-box questions.
These are from the topics like
Semiconductors, Optical Instruments, Errors and Measurements. The remaining 22 to 25 questions are
in the area where the student should try to
secure maximum marks.
There are around 69 to 75
questions out of 90 which can be solved under the easy tag. This enables a
student to secure around 190 marks after assuming certain negative marks.
Securing these numbers will ensure a candidate to rank among the first 20,000,
and thus qualifying for JEE Advanced.
