NIT Srinagar Admission Process
National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, popularly known as NITSRI, is one of the best public engineering and research institutes in India. It is amongst the 31 National Institutes of Technology or NITs.
Thus, it is directly under the control of the Ministry of Human Resource Development or MHRD. It was founded in the year 1960. NITSRI conducts admission for its undergraduate courses through Joint Entrance Examination (Mains).
NIT Srinagar Admission Highlights
- For UG level B.Tech courses, NITSRI admits its candidates based on a minimum of 75% marks or at least 20 percentile marks scored in 12th examination from any respective boards. For all SC or ST candidates, qualifying marks would be 65% in 12th board exams.
- For PG level M.Tech courses, all applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Technology, AMIE or MCA in appropriate discipline or a Master’s Degree in appropriate discipline with a minimum of CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 60% marks. For OBC or SC or ST candidates needs to score at least 6.0 or 55% marks in their qualifying degree examination.
- For PhD admission in NIT Srinagar, candidates having ME or M.Tech in any relevant field of Engineering with at least CGPA of 6.5 or with a minimum of 60% for General Category and CGPA of 6.0 or at least 55% marks for SC/ST/OBC minimum at Master’s level or any other equivalent qualification recognized by the Institute.
- Apart from that, for PhD admission in NIT Srinagar students having BE or B.Tech with a valid GATE score or NET qualification with a minimum of CGPA of 8.0 and not less than 75% for General Category and CGPA of 7.5 or not less than 70% for SC or ST minimum at BE/B Tech level is also eligible. UG Course
To be eligible to apply in undergraduate level B.Tech course, the candidates must pass 10+2 with 75% marks or top 20 percentile. The SC/ST candidates need to score 65%. On the basis of JEE Main rank followed by JoSAA counselling, the final selection will be done.

PG Course
To secure a seat in postgraduate M.Tech course, the applicants must have a B.E or B.Tech degree with minimum 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks for OBC candidates and 6.0 CGPA or 55% marks for SC/ST candidates. The final selection is done on the basis of GATE score,

Doctoral Course
For getting admission in PhD, applicants having a ME/M.Tech in the relevant field of Engineering with at least CGPA of 6.5 or with a minimum of 60% marks for General Category candidates and CGPA of 6.0 Or not less than 55% marks for ST or SC or OB candidates at Master’s level or any other equivalent qualification recognized by the Institute. Otherwise, a BE or B.Tech with a valid GATE score above the mentioned cut off level or NET Qualification.
The candidates need CGPA of 8.0 or at least 75% for General Category or OBC and for SC or ST minimum CGPA of 7.5 or not less than 70% at BE or B Tech level. Final selection is conducted on the basis of written test followed by an interview conducted by the institute.
