Harcourt Butler Technical University was established in 1921. This institute was built out of the arising need of the United Provinces. Owing to this requirement, the Government Research Institute was started in 1920.
But later on, Spencer Harcourt Butler, the governor of the United Provinces, laid the foundation of HBTU on 25th November 1921.
HBTU Kanpur offers many engineering courses on different academic levels such as undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate levels. Many B. Tech, M. Tech and PhD courses are offered in part-time and full-time options.
These courses include many engineering subjects like Plastic Technology, Leather Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics Engineering etc.
HBTU University has maintained its 1st position among the top 50 engineering colleges list in Uttar Pradesh. According to Outlook magazine, HBTU ranking is on the 25th position for being the best engineering college in India.
The Week has placed the Harcourt Butler Technical University Kanpur on 52nd position among other colleges in India. The university has also been approved by the University Grants Commission.

HBTU fee structure is given on its official website including hostel fees for different programmes. The fees of the B. Tech course for different subjects is between 2.95 lakhs and 5.40 lakhs. M. Tech fees are between 1.47 lakhs and 1.61 lakhs. M. Tech part-time course fees are 2.20 lakhs.
HBTU Course Highlights

HBTU Admission Process
All the applicants are admitted to the engineering courses in HBTU on the basis of marks scored in the qualifying exam. The qualifying exams required for HBTU admission in B. Tech and M. Tech course are UPSEE and GATE.
UPSEE is the state level exam conducted by the Uttar Pradesh government and the other is Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering. Applicants of the institute are required to get a certain score in GATE, UPSEE and qualifying exam. UPSEE is followed by a HBTU counselling round and a personal interview round.
However, the final selection of the candidates is based on the overall score obtained in the qualifying exam and personal interview round score. Candidates can search HBTU admission 2019 in different sites to know the details of the admission procedure.

- For admission in full-time B. Tech course, UPSEE score is considered.
- For admission in full-time and part-time M. Tech. course, GATE score is considered.
- For admission in full-time PhD course, qualifying exam result is considered.
HBTU Placements
HBTU placement is a serious affair for the students. Students get placed after each session ends. Many reputed companies visit the campus and offer job opportunities to M. Tech and B. Tech students. The placement cell of the institute understands the requirements of the recruiting companies.
The cell ensures the placement of every student. Special training classes for personality development and other skills are also organized to train students for the perfect competitive environment.

HBTU Result and Cut-off
HBTU cutoff list is the main deciding factor in the admission of the candidates in different courses. The cut-off list is announced after the UPSEE and GATE results are declared. The candidates are selected for admission in the B. Tech and M. Tech courses on the basis of the cut-off score.
UPSEE cut-off mark needs to be crossed by the candidates willing to take B. Tech admission and GATE cut-off mark needs to be crossed by M. Tech candidates.
PhD candidates are required to cross the certain cut-off score in the qualifying exam. The cutoff score is based on a number of factors like the number of participating candidates, their marks scored in the qualifying exam, the difficulty level of the exam and the number of seats available in the institute.

There are 3,754 members in the alumni association of the institute. HBTU Scholarships
HBTU offers many scholarships for engineering students. The scholarships are provided in different forms such as tuition fee waiver, exemption of part of fees, financial aid etc. Merit Cum Means scholarships are given to the poor and meritorious students.
Special scholarships for ST, SC, OBC, disabled and physically challenged students are provided by the institute. All these scholarships bring the boost to students’ encouragement and relief to the financial issues of the students.

HBTU campus is spread across 271 acres of land and offers many facilities to its students. These amenities include 56 classrooms, six sports grounds, separate hostel rooms for boys and girls, academic zone, ATM, hygienic canteen, computer lab, a spacious guest house for staff members and students’ parents etc. All these facilities add up to make students’ academic journey successful.
