NIT Rourkela Campus Facilities
The Regional Engineering College, or REC Rourkela, was founded on our Independence Day in 1961. The NIT Rourkela campus area is 648 acres in size and is located 172 kilometres from Ranchi Airport. Mr. Biju Patnaik, then Chief Minister of Odisha, approved the NIT Rourkela campus.
The NIT Rourkela campus is in Rourkela Steel City, a well-connected medium-sized metropolis. Because the city is located on the Howrah-Mumbai and Ranchi-Bhubaneswar main railway routes, NIT Rourkela addresses are easily accessible from all parts of the country via railway routes or road. The beautiful NIT Rourkela campus is surrounded by small hills on the southern end, which students use as a picnic spot.
Aside from the scenic beauty and accessibility, the campus offers many other amenities that make it a second home for students.
Main Building: The campus is divided into several blocks. The main building is located in the heart of campus and is surrounded by all of the departmental buildings.
The main structure houses the Central Library, all classrooms, as well as the Academic and Administrative blocks. Aside from the departmental buildings, the main building is surrounded by the lecture gallery, audio-visual hall, and workshops.
Residential Facilities: NIT Rourkela provides all residential amenities to its students, faculty members, and staff on campus. The campus has ten NIT Rourkela hostels, two of which are NIT Rourkela girls’ hostels.
Seven of the nine halls are reserved for male undergraduate and postgraduate students, and one is reserved for married students pursuing PhDs and beyond or full-time research.
Central Library: The central library on the NIT Rourkela campus is named after Biju Patnaik, the former Chief Minister of Odisha. The Biju Patnaik Central Library has 18,000 periodicals and 65,000 books.
It is worth noting that the BPCL has access to over 2,000 online scientific and technological research databases, which aids in the development of local research activity.
The library is managed by Libsys, a software package that provides the simplest and fastest way to track and locate library materials.
Health Care: The NIT Rourkela campus also has an on-campus dispensary known as a Health Centre, as well as a fully equipped Community Welfare Service Hospital. These centres provide all medical services to both on-campus and off-campus students.
Student Activity Center: A student activity centre can be found in the central academic area. It serves as the focal point for all extracurricular activities. All annual events and student symposiums are also organised by the office in the centre.
This area also contains a 1,000-seat open-air theatre and a 400-seat Bhubaneswar Behera Audio Visual Auditorium. Annual elections are held online at the end of even semesters each year.
