I cleared L1 in dec06 using Stalla. I am a Mech Engg so I guess the comprehensive material in Stalla helped me a lot to grasp the basics as well... Since u have sufficient time I'll recommend Stalla to you for ur Dec07 L1,
I am appearing for L2 in june07 so going for schweser bcoz it's very concise and to the point material, not very descriptive unlike Stalla. But finding it a little hard to digest...
U might go for a combo of Stalla + scheweserpro for more variety of practice questions.
Also since u r already an MBA even ONLY schweser wud b gud enuf to "pass" L1.

Thanks for the prompt reply...Congratulations on passing level 1..... Do you know how is the material provided by CFA institute..Actually they include the cost of the material in the enrollment and exam fee which totals to 895 USD...I dont think that if I do not buy the material from them they will deduct the cost..so I was wondering if I could use the material from CFA itself as I don't wanna spend on both....Here in USA it would be tough for me to find xerox or any such thing for stalla...So , do you think CFA institute material is good enough for passing CFA level 1. Also, I would appreciate if you could give me some study tips for passing level 1.

You will get your percentile score in every section.
Not the exact score though but weather your percentile lies between 0-50,50-70 or >70..
I don't think there is any over all cutoff the cutoff is decided every year based on the performance and they do not disclose it.
No sectional cutoff but the Ethics score becomes important if you are a borderline case.

Sorry for the late response.
CFAI material is voluminous, I personally haven't used it but have heard from friends that it's just not possible to cover all that if u are short of time ..which i m sure u'll b if u r working 😃 It is typically used by junta for more clarification and in depth study of certain topics which are hard to grasp via schweser/stalla.
also the cost isn't included in the registration fees (atleast i didn't get it for the 800 odd $ tht i paid !!!) please confirm this, i m not sure of the cost..

I am giving my CFA Level 1...June...07...I was studying... thru Swesher Notes..till now..
But now...i am trying to stress on my weak areas....so...i wanna know...are there any Indian versions available...for the assigned..books suggested....by CFA....if Yes where to fetch it frm....I am frm delhi....i can order it..if you have any idea...where to purchase..it from...
I have a copy..of the CFA Curricullum...which i arranged frm a senior of mine..for free..but again even they..require...some basic..knowledge..of concepts....u knw.. in the areas..i have no idea of....!!..

Leo_rulz, You're right. You dont get the CFA material for free along with your registration of $800...you have to buy it separately.
Big dady (i neve thought i'd ever be starting a sentence with those words ), some people without finance background have passed the L1 with just the schweser material while some have not. There is no clear consensus on whether schweser is definitely sufficient or not. I personally did not find it sufficient and had to refer here n there a lot.
Doing L1 along with MBA-I is a very challenging task. I dont mean to discourage you, but MBA is known to be a hectic course in itself. Also, your first year mba will be a genaral overview of all subjects even if you've chosen to major in finance. So essentially, you'lll be doing two distinct courses simultaneously with very little overlap. it is difficult, but possible. Personally, i would suggest to concentrate on one and get that right, coz low grades in MBA might affect your final placement. At the time of placement, companies look for potential rather than knowledge...and in india, unfortunately, low grades translates to low potential...knowledge (read: CFA) comes later. Not to forget that if you have a trimester system, your MBA quizzes might overlap or cut very close to your CFA exam in december and you might have to choose one over the other. you only get one chance to do an MBA...do it right.
$dreams, i remember mentioning in one of my very early posts that low-cost indian editions of many of those prescribed books are available in bookstores. I myself bought a coupla them. Im sure any college-level bookseller in delhi must be stocking these books. Find out where MBA students in delhi purchase their textbooks from and check out those bookstores. these days a lot of those books are floating around as free ebooks on the net...see if you can find any at 5GB of free space to upload and share your files, photos, videos and music - eSnips.com
PS: guys, Google has pulled down the webpage on which all that free CFA schweser material and videos were available. Fortunately, i managed to download about 3 GB of data from that site before it went down.
Can anybody tell me the name of the shop or the locality in Pune where I can get Schweser notes (I have the soft copy of the notes but I wud prefer to read from the hard copy).
