Hey akshat...i was planning to take dec exams.....im an engg...interested in shifting my field....i got the schweser notes a week back....with no financial background can u tell wht all areas to concntrate on initially....plz reply asap...

You seem to share my background.
See, i would suggest you first read the quants portion (session 2 & 3)
They take max 2 days and since we are from engg background we can grasp it quickly. It also forms the basis of book 4 and book5 so i would suggest that read quants first.

Then read about the economy, macro-economics( session 5) first and then micro (session 4).

Then it depends on your liking. You could do anything , in any order then.
I did accounting (book 3) and then went to book 4 and 5.
Leave the ethics portion for the last.

All the best

thats something even I would like to know...do we have to complete all three levels, after which we can get a decent opening, or does each level bring with itself a new opportunity?

Dude, there is a huge difference in the 2006 and 2007 notes, especially in the quants and accounting section.
I would suggest that you go thru the 2006 and then read the book 2 and 3 of 2007
that would be fine
cheers

I dont have the exact data to tell you what jobs you would land up after each subsequent levels.

I know some of my friends who got thru finance firms like lehman bros and duestche bank on basis of fact theat they cleared level 1.

In my opinion , Cfa qualification will help a person get a call from these firms for the interview. After that the onus lies with the candidate. If he is good he will surely get selected.

cheers

Can anyone who has finished Quant part using BA II plus calci help me out?
For calculating FV of an Annuity, lets say values of N, I/Y, PMT are given; how do u find FV using the calci? I mean what sequence of keys do u use?

Pls let me know, as I am stuck due to not understanding the use of calci here.

enter the value 5 then press N (assuming N is 5)
then enter the value 7 press i/y (assuming i/y is 7 and p/y = 1...u can checkp/y by using second and then pressing i/y)
then enter the value of the pmt in negative say -1000 and then press pmt (assuming pmt is 1000)
then press cpt and press FV

if i am not mistaken u should get the correct answer
be sure to enter pmt as negative as the amount is an outflow and hence negative

cfa from US has 3 levels. the 1st level is held in june & dec, the 2nd and 3rd is only in june. one has to clear all 3 to get the cfa designation. the avegrage attempt to clear all 3 levels is 4 (as level 2 and 3 on the tougher side). So, give urself atleast 3-4 yrs for completing cfa
Self-study is okay. Schewer Notes are good enough for Level 1. For rest, some additional reference is needed. You can do this with work side by side (everyone does that way). Clearing Level 1 can give some leverage if u wanna work in a financial firm in research, etc.

Pls read initial pages in this thread for better idea.

hello, pls tell me where can i get the study material in DELHI.
AND IS THERE ANY COACHING REQD ?any such training conducted in delhi?

All those who have passed the L1 exam please advice as to what practice exams should one give with 20 days to go.

Also, what areas should one focus and concentrate on during revision?

can anyone tell me pls where can we get sch notes and calci in pune . if they are not available in pune pls provide the mumbai add.

Aah, calci trouble! Seriously, using that thing is a challenge in itself. Im exceptionally bad at using the calci in particular and electronic devices in general . Will be doing the annuity/perpetuity section in a few days, and if i figure out something, i'll post. In the meantime, there are three options you got:

1. Study the user manual that comes with the calci.
2. Schweser gives you step by step instructions on how to use the calci...are you facing problems even after following the instructions? In that case, there must be some settings ka jhol...the settings have to be in some Effeactive Annual Rate (EAR) or crap like that. Check out the settings.
3. Consult some gadget guru on this thread.

BTW, Im assuming you using BAI plus, right?

Hey i was thinking maybe a bunch of us could have a "Calci Workshop" where we share gyan on using the calculator effectively and shortcuts and everything. Sounds trivial, i know, but take it from a guy who got so frustrated that he calculated upto the 8th power without using the financial functions! :wow:

I am using Financial Consultant Calci FC 200V from CASIO .Will it be sufficient.I plan to Give Level 1 in Dec.2007

Hi,

I am currently pursuing C.A. course from ICAI and I am planning to do CFA course from CFA Institute (Virginia,USA).
I had discussions with many of my seniors and they are of the opinion that CFA is not permitted along with C.A.
As per ICAI "CFA/ any other course from ICFAI ,Hyderabad is not permitted".
Please guide me regarding the same.
Are there any restrictions regarding the same. Do let me know at the earliest.
