im planning to take up cfa l1 in dec07. i ve not registered till now. before that can anyone provide me the complete details about the cfa program.. im having the following queries regarding cfa
1) i did b.tech(textile technololgy) from psg tech,coimbatore. am i eligible to do cfa ?( im having no work experience till now. taking care of my own business now.)
2) should i need to take up any exam in english before taking up L1 as it was specified in the cfa website that we have to take a test in english.
3) after paying the registration fees and exam fees for L1 , will i be getting any study material from the cfa institute ? if so y people are rushing to get other notes from Schweser ? is the material from cfa is not adequate for the exam ? kindly clarify....
4) i came across the fact that we should take some calculators for the exam? whats that calculator and how much it costs where we can get it ?
5) finally what is the date for cfa L1 in dec 2007 . whether dec 1 or dec 2
people who have completed level 1 and are taking up level 1 in jun07 kindly reply to my above questions ....

Hi Vvv, If you intend to take up an exam like the CFA please try to take out the requisite time to gather as much information as possible.If you will look up at the previous pages you will find all your queries answered and also gain a lot more insight into the exam. Rajat

I will only give you a brief reply as I want you to do most of the ground work yourself.. As regards to your queries:

well i have gone thru most of ur posts .. and have been a silent reader on this thread .. anyway firstly congrats on clearing cfa level-1 and gud luck fr caf level-2.. now can u pzlz enlightn me abt few facts.. now i have cleared icfai-hyd(mba) and will probly wuld be joining it.. now i want to know wether is it feasible or possible to do mba and cfa simultaneously .. as i have heard and read that cfa is pretty tough.. + how much wuld i benifit frm doing cfa+mba..like on my career prospects...

Hi Mount, Doing both CFA and MBA is going to very tough but I have friends studying in the IIMs and doing both. As far as placements are concerned you will obviously be seen in a better light vis-vis your batch mates who have not done so.But on the other hand you have to see how it impacts your grades over there and if the fall is offset by the positives you gain out of the CFA program. (You can PM anandv on this forum,he is a first year student @IIML and also giving CFA L1 in june,see his insights on managing a CFA with a B School program)

I personally did not find the CFA books very useful ,they are too long winded to be of any use.Stick to Schewezer . I got all of them Xeroxed .Getting them from the US will be very expensive.

Generally, applicants must have reached a level of study that qualifies them for acceptance to university graduate programs in the countries where they earned their undergraduate degrees. If you need assistance to determine whether or not your degree is comparable to a U.S. bachelor's degree, CFA Institute suggests that you contact your college or university to make an inquiry."
As it says above...my interpretation is that u should be ELIGIBLE for graduate programs ( something equivalent to our M.Com), which anyone who has finishd B.Com is.so no prbs wid dat.the key here is "in the countries where they earned their undergraduate degrees."...so for us, its going to be grad programs(wt we call post grad) for Indian universities and MBA,M.Com, MA etc ALL accpt B.Com grads.
Also, had called up CFAI and asked them whether the 4 yr graduation versus the 3 year thng dat we B.Com ppl get wud make ne difference, they said there ws "no specific timeline regarding 15 or 16 yrs of education"...just dat u should be agrad or a grad in your final year ( full grad for appearing Level 2). which makes sense cuz a 3 yr b.com grad is as good as a b.com equivalent frm d US, cuz both r grads int heir countries and dis being a global course thy cant enforce US stds. wats more, if there indeed was ne such criteria, it would have blockd me frm enrolling for Level 2 hope dis helps.
i hve bought those notes recently and those are the latest 2007 notes with the new los statements and stuff. So no issues involved.

Acha one more thing..did u buy the soft copy or the hard copy... and i called up the shop ....so apparently the rate has increased to 1250 +300( courier) He said something about 5books + 1 sample in schweser......is that all there is?

hi to all of u; now people don laugh at me please. i am gonna be a chemistry graduate from hansraj college delhi university this april.since my childhood my basic interest has been finance, investment banking and everythin about business related studies. i has to pursue science due to lack of right guidance. i am also planning to do CFA after this i know a bit about finance and investment right from stock market knowledge to debt interests,derivatives, equities and mosta financial instruments. i know what they mean offourse these are my career interests i have been engrossed in business magazines since 3 years. just temme pls that besides preparing for CFA level 1 in december can i also do something else that sets my career path right. will clearing CFA level 1 get me a job to start with because i wan t learn while working because i think working is thebest way to learn. do i think right. temme pls where all can i get jobs after CFA level 1 is there any other course also which can help me gain knowledge about finance along with my prep for CFA. i am also good at IT(i know IT and finance are two different things). will gettin oracle certification help anyhow with CFA. pls help me my career goals are very high. i am not boasting but people tell that i really have an aptitude for finance and i also have great brains and great analutical skills.is there any coaching available in india for CFA prep. or is there any short term 1 year course to do alongside while preparing for CFA.
