On the occasion of Republic Day 2022, the Centre for Creativity, Innovation & Design Thinking at the Goa Institute of Management, in association with Aarambh – the Theatre Group of GIM, organised Abhinay – the Annual Theatre Competition.
Based on the theme ‘Swadesh’, students from PGP-1 and PGP-2 showcased stellar performances full of zeal and passion. They sparked a patriotic fervour amongst the audience by emphasising India’s unity in diversity.
After a close contest, PGP-2 were declared the winners. Kudos to Ms Vidhi Mittal (PGDM 2021-23), Mr Rahul Devnath (PGDM 2021-23), Mr Niladree Dutta (PGDM 2020-22), and Ms Riya Sharma (PGDM-HCM 2020-22) for winning the award for the best performers.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr Arpit Sheth, Mr Deekshith PHK and Ms Vidhi Mittal, (PGDM 2021–23), for emerging as the national finalists in Back to Basics, as a part of the MICAnvas event, organised by MICA, Ahmedabad.

“Over the past two decades, I worked in data science roles at various levels. I have experienced the fast-paced corporate environment with tight deadlines, client meetings, and deliverables. The end of every project gave me a lot of learning and showed me a path forward. From writing back to an angry customer complaining to waiting more than twelve hours at the Chicago airport to catch a connecting flight - all these situations made me deal with complex real-time problems. This journey of mine, stretching over 20 years, made me deliberate on the question – What next?”, penned Dr P. “For me, the shift from a small town of Tamil Nadu’s temple city, Madurai, to God’s own campus was a dream come true. I was very excited to be a member of such a rich and diverse community. My peers and professors at GIM have always assisted me in breaking out of my shell and overcoming the language barrier. Now, I am thoroughly enjoying my time here.”

“Protecting customer assets and information are the incentives to progress.”, said Dr Arijit Ghosh, Head of Analytics at Aditya Birla Finance Limited in a webinar organised by the Corporate Relations and Placements department on the topic 'Analytics In The Banking Sector.
Dr Ghosh began the webinar by briefing about the prominent sectors in Banking Analytics Services today. He talked about the three popular segments in Analytics Services in BFSI, namely Marketing Analytics, Risk Analytics, and Collection & Strategy.
Dr Ghosh elucidated the functioning of these segments and the different analyses done within them. He further explained the applications of analytics in the banking sector. He explained the workings behind Fraud Scorecards, Credit Applications, and Differential Pricing.
With the help of illustrative examples, Dr Ghosh also touched upon the use of analytics in bureau management and collections and strategy. He interacted with the students and answered their questions related to hacking, risk-based pricing, and attrition management before concluding the session.

Prabhaav, an initiative undertaken by the students of PGDM-HCM at GIM, with the goal of bringing light to various healthcare-related topics, organised an event, ‘Extempore Competition’.
As students spoke on the topic of ‘Remote Patient Monitoring’, the judges, Prof. Sreerupa Sengupta, Assistant Professor, GIM and Dr Ajay Vamadevan, Professor, GIM gave numerous helpful suggestions to the participants and audience on how they can strengthen their public speaking skills. This event sparked an interest and encouraged students to enhance their learning.

The blog titled ‘Liquidity in the Market - A New Norm in the Present Market Conditions’ argues why RBI should continue with its accommodative stance in the current market scenario.

We were honoured to host Mr Amit Rathi, CA and Managing Director, Unitus Capital, as the guest speaker for the Aspire’21 series organised by the Corporate Relations and Placements Committee – BIFS.
“Microfinance creates financial discipline among people.”, propounded Mr Rathi as he addressed the batch and walked the students through the trends of microfinance and investment banking in an interactive virtual session. He enlightened the students about the change in the working of the village lending economy as microfinance eliminates the chances of defaults and gives loans to Self-Help Groups.
Mr Rathi led an in-depth discussion on the emerging trends in microfinance, focusing on how banks are adding different types of products to cater to the needs of customers. He also touched upon the drop in debt collection efficiency due to the impact of COVID-19 on microfinance.

The discussion on ‘Future of Indian Healthcare - Quo Vadis?’ was moderated by Mr Anjan Bose, Founding Secretary General, Nathealth and Former President, Philips Healthcare and Consumer Lifestyle.
We express our gratitude to the esteemed panelists, Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Fortis Healthcare; Dr Anupam Sibal, Group Medical Director, Apollo Hospitals Group; Dr Om Manchanda, Managing Director, Dr Lal PathLabs; Mr Sanjiv Navangul, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Bharat Serums and Vaccines Limited; Mr Sandeep Makkar, Managing Director, Johnson & Johnson Medical India; and Mr Milind Thatte, Managing Director, Procter & Gamble Health Limited.

Under The Third Annual Healthcare Management Conference, Goa Institute of Management, organised a panel discussion on the topic, ‘Making Indian Healthcare Resilient: Health Startups & Innovations’. It was chaired by Dr Ajit Parulekar, Director, GIM. The deliberation focused on the road maps for transforming healthcare delivery.
The healthcare cognoscenti panel comprised of Mr Amit Mookim, Managing Director, IQVIA South Asia; Mr Vivek Srivastava, Chief Executive Officer, HealthCare at Home; Dr Ramjee Pallela, Chief Operating Officer, AIC-CCMB; and Mr Rahul Paith, Founder, Marteck Solutions. They explained the disparities that exist in the healthcare infrastructure and how to use technology to improve quality, affordability, and accessibility.
The students gained profound insight and expertise on this unique topic. We sincerely hope to have more such thought-provoking engagements in the future.

The session was moderated under the expertise of Dr Kheya Furtado, Associate Professor, GIM.
The panel discussion, on the topic ‘Futures Approach in Indian Health Research and Action: Role of Knowledge Networks’, sparked an intensely educative debate about how knowledge networks are assisting healthcare governance in evidence-based policy-making and implementation. The panelists shared their scholarly views on building and scaling up knowledge networks.
The discussion carried out by the panelists gave the students a deep understanding and knowledge about this domain. We hope to host the speakers on campus soon for more such thought-provoking discussions.
Economic transition in India cannot go forward without inclusion. This can be addressed by generating employment. For a variety of reasons, employment generation growth has slowed down in the last decade, and more so during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In this context, The Centre for Public Policy and Governance of Goa Institute of Management invites scholars to submit and deliver research papers at the International Conference on ‘The State of Employment in India: Problems and Prospects’. This conference would cover the trends and issues on various aspects of the labour market, the social concerns in labour and employment generation.

To discuss more on this topic, Ribandar Talks - The Leader’s Interaction Club of GIM, organised a session on the topic, ‘Why Emotional Intelligence Makes you More Successful’.
While bringing to light various elements of emotional intelligence, Dr Nisha Khanna, a mental health practitioner, advised the students to first identify the source behind negative feelings to work on them. The talk helped the students to understand how to manage their emotions and increase their social awareness.

The Systems & Consulting Club of GIM invited Mr Agarwal for an educative webinar on ‘Start-Up Ecosystem: Potential Gaps and Opportunities for a Consultant’. He initiated the session by discussing the current start-up scenario in India, where the growth potential is massive, with a great return on investments.
Mr Agarwal taught the students about the newest trends in private equity and venture capital investing. He also discussed the usual business cycles of start-ups and the issues they face in terms of operations. On a closing note, he described the qualities of a good consultant and the crucial role played by consulting teams towards the growth of a company.

“To truly understand how business operates in a firm, one should undergo sales experience.”, quoted Mr Sumit Mukherjee, Vice President, Human Resources (Talent Acquisition) at HDFC Ergo General Insurance, in a webinar hosted by the Corporate Relations and Placements Big Data Analytics-GIM on the topic ‘Data management opportunities in the Insurance Sector’.
Mr Mukherjee initiated the session with the origin of the first insurance company and how it has radically changed over time. He touched upon the importance of data professionals in the insurance sector, where data has been a part of it since its inception.
He also highlighted how predictive analytics in the insurance industry can assist insurers in identifying and targeting potential markets. He concluded that data can uncover behavioural trends and common demographics and functionalities, thereby allowing insurers to direct their marketing efforts where they are most effective.
