The Indian Army Day is annually celebrated on January 15th, in commemoration of Lieutenant General KM Cariappa, who took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. Every year the national heroes, including veterans, are recognised for their valour and undying commitment towards keeping the citizens of the nation safe at all hours.

Goa Institute of Management proudly celebrates the brave hearts who guard our country.

We are honoured to host Dr Sohail Inayatullah, a political scientist, currently the UNESCO Chair in Futures Studies at the Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity for the Third Annual Healthcare Management Conference. The conference based on the theme ‘Futures Thinking in Indian Healthcare’ will be a platform for discussion about the Indian healthcare system and its re-modelling according to the needs of the future.

The keynote address by Dr Inayatullah is titled ‘Better than a Crystal Ball - Health futures in transition’. Dr Inayatullah has been working towards helping individuals and organisations create alternative and preferred futures; theorising how the future is constructed and developing futures methodologies. He has been felicitated with the ‘Laurel’ award for all-time best futurist by the Shaping Tomorrow Foresight Network in the year 2010. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate by Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang in 2011.

Remember the time when Derek O’Brien introduced the concept of quizzing or when we fell in love with Sachin’s cover drive? Khelbaaz 2021, a National-level online quiz hosted by Brainvista, the Quiz Club of GIM, helped GIMites reminisce those days.

More than 300 participants from eminent institutes went against each other through three knockout rounds of questions pertinent to sports to put their knowledge to test.

The team consisting of Ms Akshta Upadhyay and Mr Kshitiz Chauhan from GIM emerged as the winners. Ms Sanidhya Gupta from IIM Ahmedabad and Mr Anurag Rout from NIT Raipur bagged the 1st and 2nd runner-up spots, respectively.

We were honoured to host Mr Arup Majumdar, CEO, Trariti Consulting Group, as the guest speaker for the Aspire’21 series organised by the Corporate Relations and Placements Committee BIFS - GIM. He spoke on the topic ‘Mind of the Strategist – Planning Your Career’.

“One of the biggest mistakes that a business can make is entering a price war.", said Mr Majumdar as he addressed the batch in an interactive virtual session. He started the session by drawing lessons from Kautilya and Sun Tzu and incorporated them into career and business strategies.

Furthermore, Mr Majumdar elaborated on the opportunities within management consulting as a profession. Diving deep into the skillsets required, he emphasised how effective communication skills and an inquisitive mindset is necessary to excel in the field of consulting.

We would like to thank Mr Arup Majumdar for taking the time to interact with the students and hope to host him soon on campus.

The Third Annual Healthcare Management Conference organised by Goa Institute of Management will be a platform for budding managers and industry leaders to reflect and forecast the future in the context of Indian healthcare. The second-panel discussion will highlight how healthcare, as we know it, is going through a dynamic transformation with revolutionary changes in the care model.

The current COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the fragile nature of the healthcare system. To make Indian healthcare resilient, we need to revisit our health policies and review the health governance in India. In this light, health research and advocacy (for policy design and implementation) will play a pivotal role. This esteemed panel will deliberate on what kind of health research should be undertaken in the future. The distinguished panelists will share how knowledge networks in India are influencing the health governance in India. The panel discussion will be based on the topic ‘Futures Approach in Indian Health Research and Action: Role of Knowledge Networks’.

The Give Goa Team at Goa Institute of Management welcomed the guest of honour Dr Rajendra Borkar, DHS Goa, State Immunization Officer; Panelists Dr Marzook Shaikh, Microbiologist, Manipal Hospital; Dr Prabhuprasad Nc, Pulmonologist, Manipal Hospital; Dr Chitralekha Nayak, Internist, Health Way Hospital; Dr Amit Dias, Epidemiologist, Goa Medical College; and Moderator Dr Amol Mahaldar, Manipal Hospital, for a panel discussion as a part of ‘The Maria And Pascoal Menezes Series’ in collaboration with the Health and Wellness Committee, GCCI. Prof. Nafisa Vaz, Faculty Member, GIM, organized the discussion on the topic, ‘Fighting COVID-19 - Omicron and Appropriate Behavior’.

The discussion began with a basic explanation of the virus’ epidemiology and its types. A thorough discussion on the symptoms of COVID-19 caused by the Delta and Omicron variants as well as ways to combat the same was deliberated upon by the panellists. As the session progressed, Dr Rajendra Borkar spoke about how the immunisation drive in Goa worked wonders and urged everyone to remain cautious.

This seminar aimed to educate and sensitise the students of GIM on the need for appropriate behaviour during the pandemic. We would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude to all the speakers for their participation and insight.

The legacy of Reliance has been shaped by the strength of innovation and ideas. The Ultimate Pitch originated as a strategic elevator pitch competition to honour the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation. It is one of India’s most prestigious B-School competitions.

The team ‘Evil Masterminds’, comprising of Ms Apoorva Gupta, Mr Ayush Kumar, and Mr Pranjal Jindal (PGDM-BDA 2021-23), have emerged as the winners. Also, team ‘Manav Gupta’, consisting of Mr Navyav Singh, Mr Manav Gupta, and Ms Sonu Mundra (PGDM-BDA 2021-23), were declared the Runner-ups.

Congratulations to the winners for rising to the occasion and making GIM proud.

“In order to succeed in the medical device industry, one must simplify tasks and not complicate them. Along with that, it is also important to lead with trust and authenticity.”, said Mr Gajender Pandit, National Sales Manager - India Region, Bactiguard AB. He spoke on the topic ‘Medical Device Sales & Marketing: Pre-COVID vs COVID Era’, in a virtual interactive session hosted by the Corporate Relations Healthcare Management.

Mr Pandit talked about how the medical device industry is in a VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) situation and gave his insights on how one can succeed. He stated that one needs to get diverse perspectives, be a ‘learning leader’ and not a ‘knowing leader’ and move from hierarchy to network. He highlighted the differences between the sales and marketing strategies in the pre-COVID era versus the COVID era and spoke about how ‘phygital’ is the new norm.

We were honoured to have hosted Mr Gajender Pandit. His knowledge and expertise in the domain of sales and marketing highly benefitted the students.

Our heartfelt congratulations to Ms Vidhi Mittal and Mr Arpit Sheth (PGDM 2021-23), for securing the first position in Arth-E-Culate, organised by Delhi School of Management, Delhi Technological University.

"ML on cloud is a building block that facilitates in evaluating what matters and what does not from a huge chunk of data; it comes in handy when real-time results and actions are required.”, quoted Mr Swapnil Dubey, Cloud Architect at Schlumberger in a webinar hosted by the Corporate Relations and Placements Big Data Analytics-GIM on the topic ‘Opportunity for Sustainable Analytics’.

Mr Dubey commenced the session by stressing that analytics plays a vital role in day-to-day operations, leading to higher profit margins. He explained how the energy sector deploys complex sensors to collect data in a variety of formats employing multiple acquisition patterns from a plethora of sources, and how limitations get addressed along the process.

Mr Dubey also discussed how the massive volume of data processed each day poses challenges in of cleaning and storage. These challengers are solved by cloud computation services that aids to improve the complex workflow for more accurate data insights.

We thank Mr Dubey for such an informative and insightful session. We would like to have more such sessions with him in the future.

Saffron, white, and green filled the blue Goan sky as Dr Ajit Parulekar, Director, GIM, unfurled the Indian flag today. He addressed the GIM community on this 73rd Republic Day by saying, “If you want to do something good, decode and bring down costs without compromising on outcomes. Look at what India is doing, that is what will pave way for future”.

The faculty, staff and students of the Goa Institute of Management came together this morning to commemorate our constitution. On this occasion, HRiday - the HR club honoured the GIM support staff by organising Abhaar and felicitating their work. The Centre For Social Sensitivity and Action at GIM also launched the ‘GiveGoa 10-year Anniversary Compendium’. It is intended to demonstrate the genesis, history and impact of GiveGoa in the past 10 year.

We, at GIM, wish everyone a very Happy Republic Day.

It was a matter of great pride and honour for Goa Institute of Management to have hosted the esteemed political scientist and futurist, Dr Sohail Inayatullah, UNESCO Chair in Futures Studies at the Sejahtera Centre for Sustainability and Humanity, International Islamic University, Malaysia, for The Third Annual Healthcare Management Conference. The theme of the conference was 'Futures Thinking in Indian Healthcare’.

Dr Inayatullah said, “The future is messy enough, find one’s zone of control – the mandate one has.”, while educating the audience on the topic of ‘Better than a Crystal Ball: Health Futures in Transition’. He went on in detail about how healthcare managers and executives should foresee alternative futures and develop a strategy to attain the desired future by addressing complex problems. He concluded the talk by stating that one should be able to imagine the impossible today that becomes their vision for tomorrow.

We are filled with immense gratitude towards Dr Sohail Inayatullah and we hope to host him again very soon.

“There has been a revolution in the field of personal financing and manufacturing, courtesy of AI, and customers are reaping the benefits.”, quoted Mr Amit Kurhekar, Director, Data Sciences and Analytics Solutions at Envestnet | Yodlee, in a webinar hosted by the Corporate Relations and Placements Big Data Analytics-GIM on the topic 'Case Studies and Use Cases from Fintech and Manufacturing’.

Mr Kurhekar began the session by describing the foundation concepts of AI. Then he discussed how AI is transforming our lives from voice-assisted personal devices to industry-grade advanced computing hardware.

Mr Kurhekar continued to discuss how FinTech firms are using AI for lending money using credit history analysis and the ways manufacturing firms are using AI-powered devices in assembly lines to ensure quality control and maintenance. On a concluding note, he stated that the recipe for career success is continuous learning and networking.

We thank Mr Amit Kurhekar for such an educational and thought-provoking session. In the future, we would like to have more interactions with him.
