hey friends, i m new to this forum.. i have been doing quite a research of my own on whether to study in UK or not? what i figured out that there are lots of rumors regarding MBA in UK, especially the placements. Since the duration of MBA in UK in 1 year, I came to know that the govt. there gives a time duration of 4 months for an international student to find a job. if student fails to find a job within 4 months, his visa is cancelled and he/she is sent back to his/her respective country? Can anyone verify this? Is getting a job in UK very difficult for an asia students?
@antariksh, u seem to be a little confused (just like i was before i came to the uk!). Let me clarify some basic stuffs for you. 1. Its true that u get 4 months extra visa. but the uk govt does NOT give this 4 months' visa to find job. it is to enable you to stay back and attend your graduation ceremony here and/or in some unlikely case, if the student needs to re-sit in any of his/her papers. 2. up until now, an international student - on successful completion of his course - can apply for 2 years Post Study Work(PSW) visa to continue finding a job. At the end of the PSW visa, if u r lucky enuf to get a job, u could go for HSMP visa. HOWEVER, from april 2012, the uk govt is going to remove the PSW visa. Technically, this means you CANNOT apply for PSW and consequently, you HAVE TO go back to India once you complete ur course, unless, ofcourse u get a job here... and to answer your question, yes, getting a job here is difficult but not impossible. Sadly, this is the truth. Please go through the uk border agency website for more information. http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/news/sop4.pdf
@syedjasim Thank you brother for such an important info and link..Can u help me shortlist some universities in UK which dont demand work experience and are at the same time comparatively better in awarding jobs.
i will be glad to give u more info... but before that let me tell u some "friendly" thoughts!
1. if u r planning to do an mba, pls ask yourself y u need an mba degree in the first place? if it is just for the money, think again. 2. y do u want to do an mba in the uk? 3. U can very well do an mba without any work ex here in the uk, but having a couple of years of work-ex will not hurt you and it will definitely give u an edge over ur fellow students. trust me, i have seen many students here, who jus finished their ug from india and landed straight here to do a masters degree and most of them(not all 😃 ) seem totally lost in understanding even some of the sub-basics concepts of the subject that is expected. i reiterate, work-ex is not a must, but it is highly recommended.... 3. i am not sure if i can help u with your comparatively-better-in-awarding-jobs list of universities as there is no such thing as job guarantee here. of course, wn u go to a top 10 b-school u "mite" have a better chance, but again, it is not just the university that makes a difference, but other factors such as ur acads, ur exposure, ur interests and more importantly, the global market!
good luck.

thank u for ur generous opinions.. i highly appreciate them. After going through in depth research n inquires, i am of the same opinion that doing MBA without work exp. is not worth it, as far as learning and job opportunities go. But is a masters program in banking and finance a better option? If i get fairly good results during masters in UK, will my job chances enhance. see, studying in UK requires financial commitment and for that purpose loan is the option nowadays. so, returns are naturally expected after studying in UK.. So, is a masters degree in finance n banking worth it? will it somehow give me a chance to get a job in the financial market? i am not sticking to do a job in UK only. i am always open for jobs in Singapore, etc after masters in UK..Kindly suggest me something regarding masters..sorry for the delayed reply.
Hi... Even i was planning for UK MBA for Sep 2012 Intake. I was looking for only top ranked ones starting from Tier -2 colleges bcos of fees and other expenses. Even i am not sure about jobs in UK bcos now there is no 2 year work permit also. So it would be good if someone having this experience could throw some light on these factors that if we passout from Top Tier-2 colleges like Birmingham, durham, Lancaster what are chances of getting job in UK. If not in UK, what would be the chances in India.
Thanks, Anil

Yep , this is a very good question for which even I am searching for answers :)
I have got an admit from Lancaster for 2012 and would really like to know about the means to survive and get a job post MBA. If at all we are not getting the job that we are looking for in UK, what is the alternative?
I am looking forward to do MBA from UK Bschool.but completely in dilemma .can any1 tell me whic one is better among strathclyde, durham, edenburg, brimingham, leeds?
I just mentioned some facts about UK's current job scenario..1st is make sure you would be allowed to work post MBA and even if you're then go through my post in the following link:
How is the sentiment for the current students who have just joined various schools of UK?
How is the sentiment for the aspiring students for next batch? specially those who have a little chance for LBS and for some reason not interested in OX-Bridge?
Guys and gals, please share your thought process. Are you still interested? If still interested then what are the reasons?
I am in the same boat and hence looking for different angles to make a informed decision.
hi guysi'm kiran from b'lore.... guys i'm plannin on takin GMAT exams and i need ur suggestions.... i'm an avg. student and do u guys recommend me to take the exams or not.... pls reply asap guys...
I would like to share that I had the same dilemma 1 year back. I had applied to LSE for masters in management, but somehow could not get through. I had given GMAT and scored 630 but I did not find other institutes abroad of my interest. I did not want to waste an year also. So I Looked for institutes around Delhi and NCR and came across Infinity Business School from where I am currently pursuing my MBA. Now what attracted me to this institute was the fact that they did not have any resident professors. All the faculty that comes are hired on semister bases and are current or Ex profs of IIMs, MDI, XLRI, FMS and also CEOs of famous companies. I was more interested in learning and less interested in how their "degree" is acknowledged by the industry guys. But this also turned good when I came to know the packages that the companies visiting the college gave for final placements were very good. And today as a proud student of the college, I believe that the level of education this institute offers by getting the best guys from the top institutes is beyond appreciation. It just too good. I am not selling the college, but just en-lighting my friend over here that there are good options available in India aswell, its all about the right one for you.
I would like to suggest if you have a chance to do something, go for it. Even if you are an average guy as you say, you may never know how well can you perform in one or the other field unless you try. When it comes to GMAT, it is quite an important exam to those students, who are willing to study abroad (engineering colleges would prefer GRE though most often) and if you have such a wish, then why not? Search the institutes of your interests, go through their programme requirements, and if it notes GMAT, you will have it already if passed or will have to go in many cases. Unless, you could try to see if universities offer their own admission tests, such as ours FSAT, which waives off GMAT or GRE, however is valid only for that particular institute. There is no harm in trying, so do it.
how much GMAT score is considered very good in order to get admission in good b schools otside india like lsb etc and also is there any criteria regarding the miimum work experience an aspirant must hold before applying to the b school ??
