Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) from ICFAI_Hyderabad

hi nonie!
In the prospectus its UBS only. yaar this piece of info has really dampened my spirits. 😞
from where did you get the details. cause the site says ki MBE will be started in local colleges only. nothing else. Kya na. what are you studying rgarding the exam these days?

Why are we discussing MBE and other stuff on the CFA thread ???
Sakhi, Nonie.....please create a separate forum if you want to discuss your MBE issues.
I hope the thread-moderator also takes notice of this and makes suggestions.
Let us stick to the discussion for which this thread is created...all else can be put on another thread. There is no need to hijack the thread by discussing irrelevant stuff.

Tumtum.
Hey guys...I've some updates for all you guys.....
...........1.The course fee has been raised from 50k to 57k (late comers plz dont cribb...the course deserves the fee)
..........2. The amazing news is after completion of 2nd level ICFAI offers internship for a period of 4 weeks(full time) & 8 weeks (part time)...one can opt for any (full time or part time) internship...(Hey guys sorry im not sure if its 2nd level or 3rd, i'll confirm and let you know):-

So guys put your best efforts and do well in each group as even that is considered once you complete your course(Ofcourse for better package)...

GOOD LUCK.......

Buddy, great updates. Faster then Aaj tak

50 to 57 k!! I registered in december and then it was 48 k.I think 57 k will now stabilise for some time.

Internship will be amazing thing.I dont mind if companies pay a small stipend during this period but it will help to get a bigger picture in investment career.

even, 22k sounds good
UPDATE:

As tumtum rightly said, there is a negative marking. I confirmed the extent of negative marking from university today morning through email. This is university reply:

CFA xxxxx
Dear xxxxxx

To prevent candidates from making wild guesses, negative marks are given for
wrong answers. . The Negative marking for the wrong answer is 0.25 per mark.

Yours Sincerely

So guys be careful. In case if you do a 3 marks question wrong, you end up loosing 3.75 !!

ICFAI have made some modifications to the CFA programme. Internship is optional and you need to pay extra fees of Rs 8000 for it. After L 1, you can do 4 weeks full time or 8 weeks part time internship. That will be module 1. After L 2, you will do module 2 of internship. The duration will be same-4 weeks full time or 8 weeks part time.
As cfa_smart updated a day ago, students will now get CD rom package-360 degree flexible learning approach adopted by ICFAI. The cd rom contains lectures, question banks, quizzes, mock papers etc. For the L 1 CD ROM you do not need to pay any additional fees. However, in case you are interested to get L 2 and L 3 CD roms, you need to shell out extra Rs 4000.
Fees have increased. Examination fees per group increased from Rs 800 to Rs 1000. Hence dont fail . Special placement scheme services where a guranteed Rs 21000 per month job is provided have increased the fees to Rs 4500 from Rs 3300. Similarly, the training fees have also shot up by Rs 3000 to current Rs 12000 levels. These all services are optional.

Here you go guys !!!

I think this should serve as an eye opener for all those opposing the CFA from ICFAI.
It is pretty much in line with what I had said in my previous posts regarding my experience after CFA, which has been nothing short of fantastic and so will it be for all you determined guys who finish the CFA program.
The kind of improvisations and modifications made by ICFAI are really fundoo and should stand you all in good stead for your future careers.

Best of luck and prepare hard.

Warm regards,

Tumtum.

Hi mahesh,

I dont think we will get CDROM because we have registered earlier. Those who are registering now will get CDROM only for L 1. For L 2 & L 3, every one needs to pay extra Rs 4000 (both levels).

Just have a word with university counsellor regarding whether we will get CD ROM or no.

20 hours a week is decent target. However it entirely depends upon you and there is no fixed formula. Study materials are relevant to examinations. They are quite comprehensive.

Validity period have been extended to 7 years from earlier 4 years. It means you have option to finish course in 7 years.

L 1 has to be completed in 2 years from the date you registered. So it will not make any big difference if you miss october exams.

Having said that, i will suggest you to have a word with your local university city counsellor regarding all old and new rules.

Different font, smaller size, please !!

Welcome to the thread. Given your MBA finance background, you have enough time to pass group 1 in L 1. The pattern of examination is different as compared to MBA; Hence you need to devote little bit time to familarise yourself with examination pattern.

No, its not compulsory to give examinations every three months. However you need to complete your L 1 within 2 years.

Any other query, do ask

I was more focussing towards books, sample papers written by other authors & not ICFAI.
BOOKS THAT CONTAIN SOME / ALL TOPICS covered therein.
SO PLZ reply!!!!!!!!! PLZ PLZ PLZ

hi mate. what level r u at?
if u r at level 1, ive found the material more than enough. in fact the cfa material is so comprehensive that it can be used for other courses. a friend of mine is using icfai eco books to study economics.also the workbooks and the kind of sums given are comprehensive and follow a logical order.

my 2 cents .

im posting this thread for my friend.
he is completeing his BE this year.failed to get into to a grade A b-School in cat 2005.he is placed in TCS.he is very keen on entering the world of finance.
he now has two options in front of him:
1)appear of CAT2006 and hope to get into to a tier 1 b-school do MBA finance which he is not very hopeful
2)pursue a CFA which is very challenging but he is confident.since there semms to be two CFAs---icfai one and the US one hes wants to know which one is preferable(cost is secondary).he has some reservations about this considering the fact that he is from a BE background and also wants to know if he can do it side by side with a job in TCS.clearing in the first attempt is also very important.

No body can guide you or your friend regarding which CFA to choose from-ICFAI or AIMR. Go to their websites, study course contents and make a decision. ICFAI is broader in coverage i.e one will be exposed to the very basics of finance like debit and credit and other commerce subjects. AIMR CFA is narrow in coverage- It will sum up a chapter like portfolio analysis in few words. ICFAI CFA have 32 exams while i think AIMR have around 6 papers. I have just given you basic idea. Another assistance i can provide is go to www.naukri.com. Bottom right side there is a link search for CV's. Enter keyword CFA. Lot of CFA CV will pop up. You will see many indian BE students completed or completing CFA.Contact them for more guidance.

Yes CFA can be done side by side. Clearing in first attempt is directly proportional to concept understanding. Every thing is based on concepts.
