PTE 2024 Syllabus

The PTE Academic evaluates candidates’ Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening skills to determine their ability to succeed in an international academic environment and demonstrate English language proficiency. The PTE 2024 syllabus is divided into three main sections: the Speaking & Writing Section, the Reading Section, and the Listening Section.

PTE 2024 Syllabus – by Section

The Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) evaluates candidates’ speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills to ensure they are prepared for studying in an international setting, with a strong command of the English language. A good performance on this exam assures both admission committees and visa officers that the candidate can effectively comprehend and use English, the globally accepted language of education.

PTE Exam Syllabus 2024: Speaking & Writing Section (54 – 67 minutes)

The Speaking & Writing section of the PTE exam focuses on assessing the candidates’ verbal and written communication skills. This section, which lasts between 54 and 67 minutes, is the longest part of the PTE and includes seven distinct question types. It evaluates how well candidates can speak and write using academic English, simulating scenarios they may encounter in an academic setting.

This section is divided into several smaller segments, each designed to test the candidates’ ability to respond quickly to both spoken and written prompts. These tasks assess the ability to speak and write based on texts that candidates have not seen before.

Each task in this section has a specific time allocation as follows:

PTE Exam Syllabus 2024: Reading Section (29 – 30 minutes)

This section assesses candidates’ ability to understand written English. It is divided into 5 tasks and lasts for 29 to 30 minutes. The tasks are:

The Listening section lasts between 30 to 43 minutes and tests candidates’ ability to understand spoken English. The section includes 8 different tasks, and the time allocation for each task is as follows:
