Madras University Admission Process
Madras University offers various courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, MCA and research level programmes in Arts, Commerce and Science streams. It also offers Diploma and certificate courses and Distance learning facility.
Madras University admission is done on the basis of merit in the qualifying exams as well as entrance exams that are conducted by the university in some levels.
For the undergraduate course admission, the candidate must have passed Higher Secondary Exams or 10+2 from a reputed board/institute. For admission in the postgraduate courses, the candidate must have a certified bachelors degree holder from a recognised university or institute.
For MBA and MCA, the candidates must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university and the selection happens on the basis of merit in the entrance test conducted by the university.

Madras University also offers both part-time and full-time PhD courses. The candidates looking forward to taking admission in PhD courses has to be a master degree certificate holder with the minimum number of 55% in his specialization, to be an eligible candidate to apply.
For the PhD courses, the candidates need to go through some exams and interview process for the admission exams and the University declares interview results.
Admission Highlights
- For admission to the UG programmes, the candidate must have qualified the 10+2 exam and the selection happens on the basis of merit in the last qualifying examination.
- In the PG level, the candidates need to have qualifying marks in the bachelor’s degree. The candidates can apply for the relevant subject and the selection is done on the basis of merit.
- For MBA regular programme, the candidates must have a qualified bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. For MBA executive programme, the candidate must have a bachelor’s degree with 55% with two years of post-qualification experience in the relevant field.
- For MCA, the candidate must have BCA/BSc/BES in the relevant subject or B.Com/BLM/BBM or any degree with Business Mathematics and Statics s main subjects. The candidate will require a valid score TANCET.

- In the Distance learning, the university offers 16 Diploma courses and 12 certificate courses. Admission to the UG courses is offered to the candidates who have passed 10+2 or relevant examination from a recognised board. Admission in the PG courses requires candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject or stream from a recognised university or board.
