Periyar University was founded under the Periyar University Act, 1997 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The University Grants Commission approved Periyar University is located in Salem, a city on the bank of Thirumanimuthar River in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Periyar University is ranked among the 68th Indian Universities by MHRD NIRF rankings in 2019. It was reaccredited by the NAAC with “A” grade in the year 2015.
Periyar University mainly imparts higher education at three-level - Periyar Institute of Distance Education or PRIDE, Departments of Study and Research and lastly, through its affiliated colleges. It has 28 functioning departments that offer undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes.

Admission Process
Candidates are admitted to the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral level courses based on the marks obtained in the merit-based entrance examination followed by a selection process. Candidates need to qualify the prescribed eligibility criteria in order to be eligible to apply for their preferred courses.
- At the Postgraduate level, candidates are selected based on the marks scored in the previous qualifying degree.
- For the postgraduate level MBA and MCA courses, the university considers TANCET exam scores.
- On doctoral level, candidates are required to appear in an entrance examination followed by an interview round, which is conducted by the university every year.
- At the undergraduate level, candidates are shortlisted based on their marks scored in the entrance examination.
Placements
Periyar University has its own placement cell that looks after all aspects of campus placements. The placement cell of the university also imparts training to make the students able to face the interviews.
The industry-level training programs include several workshops, seminars, internships, NGO internships in order that take place throughout the year to secure better placement results. The university also organises a job fair to give placement to all of its students from all the departments. It is worth mentioning that the students from the Periyar University affiliated colleges can also participate in the job fair.
Results and Cut-off
Periyar University announces its admission cut off for all the courses as soon as the results of their respective entrance examinations are declared for the year. The candidates need to score above the cut-off marks that is specified by the university to be eligible to take admission to their preferred courses.
Like every year, Periyar University result 2019 is also decided on a number of factors like the total number of seats available in each programme or in each department, the number of students appearing for the exam, standard of the question, overall performance of the candidates and ranking of the students etc.
Alumni Network
Periyar University has an Alumni association that is known as PUAA or Periyar University Alumni Association. The main objective of the alumni association is to maintain good relations with each other and with the university, secure alumni participation in national or international conferences or seminars or workshops, to seek alumni participation in the placement process etc.

Scholarships
Periyar University Scholarships are provided to help the meritorious students who come from a humble background to continue higher education. Sometimes students fail to take admission in their preferred courses due to lack of funds or refrain from taking educational loans due to the fear of a large number of debts.
Hence, scholarships can provide a great opportunity to the students as it does not come with any payback model. Apart from the university scholarship, students can opt for scholarships offered by the Government of Tamil Nadu and Government of India.
Campus facilities
Periyar University address is in Periyar, Palkalai Nagar, Salem, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The university campus offers all sorts of facilities like students amenity centre, medical centre, bank, post office, hostels, guest rooms, internet centre etc.
The Periyar University library houses over 92,567 volumes of reference and textbooks on several disciplines, more than 180 international and national journals, subscription of 13 leading Newspapers, which cater to all the needs of all the departments, PhD scholars, PG students, M.Phil. students, staff members of the university and affiliated colleges. Besides, the university campus has separate boys and girls hostel facilities available. There is a cafeteria that serves good quality hygienic food every day.
Alongside, there are many clubs functioning in the university like the NSS, NCC, Anti-sexual Harassment Cell, Student Grievance Redressal Cell, Equal Opportunity Cell, Health and Day Care Centre, Publication Division, Placement Cell and many others.
