Campus Facilities

Jadavpur University Facilities:

  • Library: The university has a prestigious library system that includes the Central Library, the Salt Lake Campus Library, approximately 36 departmental libraries, and a total of 23 libraries affiliated with Schools and Centers within the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Law & Management. The central library is well-stocked with a massive collection of resources. The library has an internet connection, so students can access e-resources as well. Jadavpur University’s central library houses 6198 books, 11762 journals, 24 resource databases, 2 talking books, and 13742 question papers.
  • Hostel: Both boys and girls can stay at the university’s hostel. There are 13 hostels on campus, 4 for girls and 9 for boys, with a total capacity of over 1600 students. For research scholars, there is a separate hostel. The hostel’s amenities are all reasonably priced at INR 3,000.
  • Jadavpur University has a guest house with 90 double bedrooms, 3 deluxe rooms, and 2 single rooms, as well as all necessary maintenance.
  • University Health Centre: The University Health Centre is located on campus. There is a full-time Medical Superintendent on staff, as well as part-time qualified Specialists in General Medicine, Eye, E.N.T., Skin, Dental, and Pathology, as well as a part-time Lady Doctor. All of the specialists come to the health centre for two hours three days a week, and the Lady Doctor comes every working day for three hours. All consultations and medications are provided at no cost.

Recent Infrastructural Development

The university is extremely keen on the betterment of infrastructure to promote a more conducive academic environment. Major developmental works were taken up during the 2008-2013 period:

At the Main Campus:

  • Reconstruction of Gandhi Bhavan auditorium
  • Composite Building for the Science Departments
  • Composite Building for the Arts and Social Science Departments

  • Two floors of Rabindra Bhavan

  • Thorough restructuring of Open Air Theatre

Hostel Facilities

Dormitories: Jadavpur University has 13 hostels (4 for girls and 9 for boys) with a capacity to accommodate over 1600 students. Plans are underway to expand existing facilities and build new ones for additional student housing.

The hostel mess is managed by the Students Mess Committee under the supervision of the respective hostel Superintendent. The Main Hostel complex is located outside the campus, while private canteens supervised by the Students Committee are available at the Main Hostel complex, the Ladies Hostel complex, and beside the Old P.G. Hostel.

There is also a dedicated hostel for Research Scholars.

Process of Enrolment in Hostels: To apply for hostel accommodation, obtain a prescribed application form from the Information Office and submit it, completed, to the Office of the Dean of Students. At the time of admission, you are required to pay a total of ₹3000, which includes the Mess Advance. No caution deposit is required. Additionally, you will need to pay a monthly seat rent of ₹15 and electricity charges of ₹10, except for Research Scholars (R.S.) and M.Phil. students, who pay a monthly seat rent of ₹300 and electricity charges of ₹150.

The cost for two major meals at the hostel varies between hostels, and you are billed according to the charges set by the Student’s Mess Committee. Hostel residents must adhere to the hostel rules, and failure to pay mess dues, seat rent, or electricity charges may result in cancellation of hostel accommodation.
