Hostel Facilities
Dormitories: Jadavpur University has 13 hostels (4 for girls and 9 for boys) with a capacity to accommodate over 1600 students. Plans are underway to expand existing facilities and build new ones for additional student housing.
The hostel mess is managed by the Students Mess Committee under the supervision of the respective hostel Superintendent. The Main Hostel complex is located outside the campus, while private canteens supervised by the Students Committee are available at the Main Hostel complex, the Ladies Hostel complex, and beside the Old P.G. Hostel.
There is also a dedicated hostel for Research Scholars.
Process of Enrolment in Hostels: To apply for hostel accommodation, obtain a prescribed application form from the Information Office and submit it, completed, to the Office of the Dean of Students. At the time of admission, you are required to pay a total of ₹3000, which includes the Mess Advance. No caution deposit is required. Additionally, you will need to pay a monthly seat rent of ₹15 and electricity charges of ₹10, except for Research Scholars (R.S.) and M.Phil. students, who pay a monthly seat rent of ₹300 and electricity charges of ₹150.
The cost for two major meals at the hostel varies between hostels, and you are billed according to the charges set by the Student’s Mess Committee. Hostel residents must adhere to the hostel rules, and failure to pay mess dues, seat rent, or electricity charges may result in cancellation of hostel accommodation.
