ISSM Chennai Placements
Owing to the quality of education provided by ISSM, in its ten years, about 1150 have found placements in 250 companies. Placements are given extreme importance at ISSM as the school believes in not only helping the students find employment on the basis of their skills but also believes in adding to the company’s value by helping them recruit from the school. It is Director of ISSM that oversees the school’s placement cell, assisted by the Placement Coordinator and Student Representatives.
The main objectives of the placement and training cell are:
- Help students develop technical knowledge and soft skills so as to be able to meet the demands of the corporate recruitment process.
- Place all students through both on and off-campus interviews that are conducted by some of the top-notch companies.
- Help students develop their overall personality such that it stays with them after securing the job (career planning, goal setting, re-skilling, etc.)
The training program includes different courses such as interview skills, stress management, conflict relationship, creativity, time management, resume writing, communication skills, team building, decision making, problem-solving, etc. of about 60 hours yearly. Students at ISSM have access to an Industry Awareness Program, which allows them to do nine short-term projects on industries such as Banking, FMCG, Telecom, Automobile, Shipping, and Logistics, etc.
They also go through a summer internship during the months of July and August, wherein they are taught to deal with the different challenges of the industry and find a way to correlate theory with practice. This is an excellent opportunity for students, as companies can make Pre-Placement offers based on the students’ internship performance. What the internships provide the students is the chance to get the experience of working in a corporate environment that comes in handy when they secure employment.
There is also an entrepreneurship cell that aims to provide those students who are upcoming entrepreneurs, all the necessary information they would need. The cell also takes up the responsibility of organizing workshops to support such entrepreneurs and provides the students with access to Business Development mentors who can assist them and can help them come up with business ideas and give the required training, such as checking the business’ feasibility, its goals, etc.
It is the Final Placement program that ensures that students are launched into the corporate world. January is when the interaction between the students and the participating companies begins, through PPT or Pre-Placement Talk, the purpose of which is to give the students an idea of the companies, their job profiles, career prospects, etc.
