IIIT Ranchi – Indian Institute of Information Technology Overview

Founded in the year 2016, by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Ranchi is one of the twenty Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) set up in the country.

The institute works on a Public Private Partnership basis and is jointly financed by industry partners like Tata Motors, TCS and CCL along with the Government of Jharkhand.

The IIIT in Ranchi is currently mentored by the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur and will continue to be so until the completion of its new campus at Kanke by the year 2021.

The academic structure of IIIT Ranchi was built to create a pattern of education, which can fabricate best-in-class human resources in the field of IT and harness the power of information technology in potential domains.

The institute provides mainly two UG programmes in Engineering consisting of the streams - Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. Admission to these courses is conducted on the basis of performance in Entrance Exams like JEE Main and SAT for international students.

Owing to its young age of only three years, the institution hasn’t met the criteria to be rated yet by national ranking frameworks. So, IIIT Ranchi ranking is not available currently.

The IIIT Ranchi faculty is considered to be well qualified, with most professors holding a PhD in their respective field of study. The teachers are knowledgeable, interactive and help students in coping with their academic difficulties.

The Indian Institute of Information Technology in Ranchi provides degrees in branches of Engineering only. It offers the course of B.Tech Honours in Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. • Ranchi IIIT offers a full-time 4-year long B.Tech Honours programme. Aspiring candidates need to clear their senior secondary examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and anyone among Chemistry, Bio-Technology and Biology from a recognised board/university with a minimum aggregate of 75%. 
• International applicants need to score minimum marks of 1,800 in their SAT exams on subjects of Physics, Mathematics Level 2 and Chemistry. In terms of IIIT Ranchi fee, the institute charges INR 90,000 for tuition per semester and other additional costs that depend on the duration of the course. In total, the IIIT Ranchi fees for the B.Tech degree amounts to INR 8.08 lakhs.

IIIT Ranchi Admission Process

To apply for admission into IIIT Ranchi, for the B.Tech Honours courses, the candidates have to clear 10+2 level from a recognised board and be born on or after October 01, 1992. The final admission depends on the IIIT Ranchi cutoff, which is decided by the college itself.

The IIIT Ranchi admission procedure of 2018 for the engineering courses is as follows:

• BE / B.Tech admission - Admission is based on the JEE Mains cut-offs, subject to JoSSA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) rules, stated by the institution itself and followed by various rounds of counselling depending on the desired course or stream. Foreign candidates are admitted through the DASA scheme (Direct admission of students abroad) on the basis of their SAT scores.

IIIT Ranchi will have its first IIIT Ranchi placement performance data only after its 2020, recruitments, i.e. next year. This is because IIIT Ranchi was founded just three years ago in the year of 2016, and the first B.Tech Honours batch has not completed its 4-year course yet.

IIIT Ranchi Alumni Network

The first batch of students in IIIT Ranchi will complete their course in the year 2020. Being only three years old, it has not witnessed any pass outs yet owing to its 4-year long course structure. But like every institution, IIIT Ranchi too will invest on alumni-related projects in the future after the graduation of its inaugural batch.

IIIT Ranchi Scholarships

Till now IIIT Ranchi has not started offering scholarships to its students but the students can avail various central, state and privately sponsored scholarships if they fulfil the required criteria of the assistantship programmes. Banks such as State Bank of India and Canara Bank provide educational loans to students for financial aid.

How is IIIT Ranchi?

The IIIT Ranchi campus address is easily communicable and well-connected via railway and air routes with the rest of the country. The college is still young and hence does not have an official cultural or technical fest of its own yet. 

• Hostel: There are hostels for both girls and boys filled with all the necessary amenities including mess facility and good food. The total hostel fee is the same for girls and boys and lies somewhere around INR 15,000 which is collected per semester along with a mess advance of INR 16,500.

• Location: The official IIIT Ranchi address is Temporary Campus - NIT Jamshedpur Campus, Jamshedpur, Ranchi (Jharkhand) and the college is about 155 km from the Birsa Munda Airport and 9 km from the Tatanagar Junction Railway Station.

• Others: The other facilities offered by IIIT Ranchi include a central library, canteen, auditorium, laboratories, seminar hall, computer labs, bank and sports provisions.
