Kanpur University Campus Facility

In the year 1966, when Agra University was split into two universities, one of the universities among them was Kanpur University. Later on, it was renamed as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University by the then chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati.

The main university campus is situated 12km from Kanpur Railway station and 28 km from Kanpur Airport.  The campus is in the area of Grand Trunk Road, and it is spread across 264 acres.

All the undergraduate and postgraduate courses of arts, science, commerce, engineering, medical, and law are affiliated to several colleges and institutions. The main residential wing has courses from different disciplines like Life Science, Education, English and Business Management. 

The University of Kanpur has a state of the art auditorium where it hosts its annual foundation day. It also has all the latest equipment like A.C, Dolby Digital Sound system, etc. and has a seating capacity of around 1,500 audiences. The campus has branches of two nationalized banks, Bank of Baroda and Union Bank of India.

These banks provide the Core Banking System (CBS) facilities along with ATMs. They cater to the financial needs of the students as well as university staff. These banks also provide short-term and long-term study loans for students. 

There is a stadium inside the university campus that hosts multiple sports activities like 400 mts race, long jump, high jump, etc. Tournaments of different sports like cricket, football, basketball, hockey, kabaddi, volleyball, etc. are also conducted. A Multipurpose hall is also present on the campus that has a capacity of more than 1,000 persons.

Several activities like badminton, table tennis, cultural programmes, mimicry, etc. are held over there. An International centre inside the campus is meant for the accommodation purpose of guests and visitors.

It consists of several suites and deluxe rooms along with seminar rooms and conference hall. A separate lecture hall in the University provides a facility of 72 lectures per day. 

Kanpur University has a centralized library in the campus with air-conditioned and Wi-Fi-enabled facilities. The number of books available in the library is 1,19, 665. One can also access online resources from various journals, books, and other resources.

There is a centralized computer centre meant for the academic purpose of the students as well as the staff. It also provides diploma certificates in graduate and postgraduate degrees. The campus has a cafeteria that is a popular place where students have their daily meals and celebrate their special occasions. 

A health centre is also present within the University Campus of Kanpur University. There is an OPD for different departments like medicine, gynaecology, orthopaedics, ENT, psychiatry, psychology, surgery, and many more.

It provides ten well equipped medical beds. It is among those few universities in India which has its own helipad. The helicopters of various dignitaries land in the University helipad. 

There are a total of six hostels for boys and girls with the capacity of 1,114 seats. There are two campus boys hostels Shivaji and Swarn Jayanti, while there are four campus girls hostel Ganga, Saraswati, Triveni and Kaveri.

Amenities offered at these hostels are free wifi, R.O. drinking water, housekeeping services, laundry facilities, library facilities, mess, T.V., newspaper, etc. An internal shopping complex is also present in the University for books and toiletries items.
