Kanpur University was established in the year 1966, on the 9th of February. The university is popularly known as Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJM). With time, the university expanded and began to provide education in multiple disciplines. Various departments were set up under the university related to Law, Agriculture, Medicine, Engineering, Business Management, Life Science etc.

For improvement in teaching services, the university set up In Service Teachers Orientation program that was facilitated in all the constituent and affiliated colleges that came under the university.

In India, the university is placed at 22nd position and the world rank of this university is 1202. India Today has ranked the university 90th. The university is also included in the list of Member of Indian Universities (MIU), Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and Medical Council of India (MCI).

Affiliated colleges that come under the university include Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Jamiya Tibbiya Deoband, Deoband Unani Medical College, Saaii College of Medical Science and Technology, Christ Church College, SVM Medical College, BS College etc.

Courses and Fee structure 

Kanpur University provides degrees in branches of Marketing, Mechanical Engineering, Finance and Control, Interior Design, Fashion Technology etc.

These courses are MCH, MSc (Master of Science), MPEd (Master of Physical Education), MPharm, MFA (Master of Fine Arts), BPT, BBA, LLB etc. are available for a minimum of two years and up to four years. Integrated courses are also available in the university with a duration of five years.

Undergraduate courses

Kanpur University offers full-time four year UG courses that include B.Tech, BFA, B.Voc.(Bachelor of Vocational Studies), B.Com, B.Sc, BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery), BBA (Bachelor of Business Studies), BHMCT (Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology), B.LIB.I.Sc. (Bachelor of Library and Information Science), LLB etc. All these courses are covered in two to four years of duration.

These courses are available in disciplines like Chemical Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Tourism Management, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Life Science, Food Technology, Bioinformatics etc.

Kanpur University offers B.P.Ed course for two years for a fee of Rs. 37,500. B.Pharm is offered for four-year duration and a fee of Rs. 2.72 lakhs.

The B.Ed course fee is Rs. 48,000 for one year, B.LIB.ISC course fee is Rs. 20,000 and the duration of the programme is one year, BFA fee is Rs. 1.12 lakhs and B.Tech fee is Rs. 1.60 lakhs. B.Com fee is quite less compared to other courses which is Rs. 3,951. 

Postgraduate courses

Kanpur University offers many PG courses like MSc, MBA, MCA, MRD (Master of Rural Development), MD, M.Com, etc. All these courses are offered in full-time options with a duration of two years. Many disciplines come under different courses.

For example, MPharm include specialization in Pharmaceutical Management, MSc has branches like Food Technology, Microbiology, Botany, Mathematics, Environmental Science, Applied Mathematics etc. and  MA includes Ancient Indian History and Culture, Military Science, Development Studies, Music Vocal, Psychology etc.

Speaking of the fee structure, the MSc course fee is Rs. 16,000 and M.Pharm fee is Rs. 1.78 lakhs. While the MA course fee is just Rs. 8,000, Master of Extension Education course costs double of it. MPEd is another course provided by the university for Rs. 24,000. 

Integrated, Doctorate and Diploma courses

Kanpur University provides integrated courses like BCA+MCA, BSW(Bachelor in Social Work) + MSW (Master in Social Work), and BCA + MCA. These courses are available in full-time options with five-year duration. Doctorate courses include MPhil that is available for Rs.53,000 for one year.

The one-year diploma course is provided by the university in various subjects like Interior Design, Medical Laboratory Technology, Food and Beverage Service, Child Health, Gynaecology and Obstetrics etc. and PG diploma also comes with one-year duration in disciplines like Journalism, Computer Applications, Guidance and Counselling, Human Rights and Duties Education etc. 

Admission Process

Kanpur University admission is done in a few steps. These steps include a qualifying exam that is sometimes followed by a counselling round. This ends with a group discussion and a personal interview round.

For B.Tech, BPharm, MBA course, the selection process includes the UPSEE exam conducted by APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University.

PG course admission like in MA, LLM, MSW, MEd, MPEd etc. requires a passing score in the online entrance exam conducted by CSJMU. This is followed by a counselling round or an interview round. Apart from these postgraduate courses, the university also takes an entrance exam for admission in M.Sc., M.Com and M.Pharm courses.

UPSEE exam 2019 for Kanpur University admission 2019 includes objective questions in the form of MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions). The paper consists of separate sections in different subjects like general awareness, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, logical reasoning etc. 

• For admission in MBA and BTech course, UPSEE score is considered. This entrance exam is conducted by APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, which was formerly known as Uttar Pradesh Technical University.
• For admission in the PhD course, qualifying exam score is considered. 
• For admission in LLM course, an online exam score is considered. 

Placements 

The University Placement Cell at Kanpur University was set up in the year 2009. The placement cell takes charge of not only the university students but the affiliated college students that come under the university as well.

To enhance the chances of selection of their students, workshops for improvement in several skills are functioned. Training is provided to the students by the experts and seniors of the university’s placement cell.

Students get to understand and face the real workplace challenges in the internships and workshops facilitated by Kanpur University. Job fest is organised and companies are invited to offer job opportunities to the students. Result and Cut-off

Candidates willing to get admission in a particular course in the Kanpur University need to score above a specific percentile in the examinations. This percentile is revealed through a cut-off list announced by the university for UG and PG candidates.

This revelation is done after the entrance exam marks are declared. The decided percentile is the mark that candidates have to cross in their UPSEE or online entrance test.

Scholarships

Kanpur University has set up Poor Students Fund that helps the students of the university campus. The fund provides financial assistance to meritorious students who face financial obstacles during their higher studies.

The fund for these Kanpur University scholarships is collected through the contributions made by the distinguished alumni of the university, philanthropic institutions and annual budgets (budgetary allocations).

The condition for scholarship is that the parents of the candidates should have their annual income not more than Rs. 2 lakhs. Students can apply for scholarships by handing over the particulars like income certificate, affidavit etc.

The financial assistance is renewed every year. Registrar prepares the final list of candidates who become eligible for the scholarship. Selected students directly get the amount of the scholarship sanctioned in their respective bank accounts. 

Campus Facilities

Kanpur University has something for every student at the campus. The air-conditioned auditorium at the campus has a large stage and seating capacity of 1,500 students. Cafeteria is open for six days a week and offers a good variety of  beverages, concoctions and food items at reasonable rates.

The central library of the university was established in 1968, and now it is shifted to the present building.

The three-storey building has a large capacity for keeping more than 85,000 books and reading and seating space of more than 700 readers. The Guest House is at a walking distance from the administrative building and has well-furnished rooms with banquet halls.

Packed lunches and dinner facility is also available at the campus. Two boys and four girls hostels have amenities like Wi-Fi, mess with four time food facility, 24/7 electricity and security, newspapers, RO water, first-aid and ambulance, laundry and housekeeping.

The hostels have facilities for recreation and sports activities like gymnasium, TV, indoor games, cultural activities etc. The shopping complex in the university premises has commodities that meet the daily requirements of students like grocery, clothes etc.
