Bangalore University Campus Facility
Bangalore University Campus is one of the largest universities in South Asia and India. It is among the ancient Universities in India and is located in the State of Karnataka. The University of Bangalore was established in 1866 by the Association of Indian Universities.
During the period of British Rule, the college was first founded in the Central College known as City Campus. Now it has two campuses the Central College or City Campus and the Jnana Bharathi Campus.
The former is built in a classic British Colonial architecture while the latter is built in the modern style. The area of the Jnana Bharathi campus is about 4.5 sq kilometers.
The Central College or city campus is the old facility that retains the offices of important office staff like Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Finance, UGC Academic Staff, Directorate of correspondence courses and Distance Education Center, Physical Center and few other post-graduation centres.
The Central College Cricket Pavillion is also beside the campus. A bio-park is also constructed within the Jnana Bharathi campus to create awareness among the students for land management and social forestry. It is the first of a kind initiative taken by any university, constructed within the NSS Bhawan to promote such activities.
Bangalore University faculty from different disciplines like Geology, Geography, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Civil Engineering and Microbiology have contributed to the construction of the bio-park
Bangalore University library is present in both the campuses of City as well as Jnana Bharathi. The J.B. Campus library is spread across an area of 6,500 sq meters, and it has a rich collection of 3,25,000 volumes.
The library has been computerized in the year 1992. The J.B. Campus also has a publication house called Prasaranga which publishes textbooks, periodicals, and journals.
The University of Bangalore has a health centre present in both the J.B. Campus and City Campus. It serves both the staff and students of the University. Two seniors doctors with nurses are there to look after the patient. The health centre has facilities like OPD, X-Ray, General Lab, etc. 14,000 patients visit these health centres annually.
There are six boys hostel and one girl’s hostel present in the Jnana Bharathi Campus. Services offered in these hostels are dining area, reading room, T.V., daily newspaper, drinking water, etc.
Other amenities available in the University Campus are a cafeteria, post office, bank, swimming pool, outdoor and indoor game facilities, shopping centre, daycare centre, wifi etc. An R.O. drinking water plant of 2,000ltr capacity is also installed in the campus for pure and hygienic drinking water facility.
The City Campus also facilitates the Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, the state of the art centre along with senate hall, seminar hall, board room, etc. The Jnana Bharathi campus has H.N Sabhangana Auditorium, Prof.Venkatagiri Gowda Memorial Hall and Senate Hall.
