Hi Moderators,
This is Saurav Kumar. I need few suggestions from you regarding my profile. I gave my GMAT yesterday(2nd attempt) but scored only 630(m 46, v 30). Below is the snapshot of my profile.
GMAT Attempt 1 : 580
GMAT Attempt 2 : 630
Experience : 5.5+ years
Profile : Business Technology Consultant
Good Domain experience in Finance and Healthcare sector (multiple certifications on finance)
Good Technology acumen supported with multiple certifications
10th : 65.2%
12th : 71.44%
B.E. (IT) : 8.48/10
Companies : Cognizant, IBM and Deloitte Consulting(current).
NGO : Worked extensively with the organization to set up a computer center.
Strength : Will project my profile as a business technology consultant and will substantially support the same with all the data points I have e.g. certifications, past experience etc.
Weakness : Low GMAT score, low acad.
Kindly can you please suggest whether I should re appear for the GMAT and try to improve my score or should I go ahead with this score and apply for the 2013-14 session. Is it worth a try?
Note: Last year one of my friend(GMAT - 640 & Work ex : 5.5 yrs, decent acads) get the call from XLRI but not able to convert the same.
Your valuable suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Saurav
Hi
I have a couple of queries here:
1. When does the course commence for the batch of 2014?
2. What was the cutoff for GMAT as well as XAT for the batch of 2013?

There are many factors on the basis of which one gets an admission. Overall profile is screened that includes your score, acads, interview etc etc
GMAT/XAT Score is just one of them. Good score would definitely be a boost.
Thanks for the inputs. I am reappearing for GMAT again before the app deadline and determined to cross 700 this time. I have couple of queries reg. the app process.
As mentioned in the GMP official site, the last date for app submission via GMAT is 5th Jan-2013. So do the app process for GMP program requires any SOP, essays, recommd. etc. ?
I am in as well.. GMAT 610. 8 yrs exp in I banking , M&A.; 3 yrs intl exp in 28-30 countries. Currently working as an Asst.Director M&A; for a big 4 company. Good ECs.
Hello Saurav and Sudhir,
Most of the things can be sorted out if we take them one at a time. Right now concentrate on GMAT and get a competitive score. The rest of the things will just follow.
Having said that, we will surely share the admission procedure of this year in due course of time as an when we get more and more information from XLRI GMP AdCom.
Previous year we were not asked for any recommendation or essays.
Hope it helps.. ATB
Cheers

Hello everyone..
Is there a preference for either the XAT or the GMAT during shortlisting? The website says "it is preferred if the candidate appears for XAT if he is in the country at the time of the exam", thus leading me to believe there might be so.
P.S - I have already given my GMAT last year, and would want to avoid taking another test in the middle of work.

There is no preference of this sort. More than 75% of the batch-2013 is from GMAT.
If you think your GMAT score is competitive and your holistic profile can stand the interview then we encourage you to apply.

Every Good B School Considers a overall Profile of a candidate, be it IIMs or XLRI.
XAT/GMAT is just a part of interview process. Your overall profile will be the one which will get you through the rigorous admission process.

XII 81%
Graduation( Engg from Govt College Delhi) 71%

1. Your profile looks good. Interview call depends on a lot of factors mainly GMAT score, academics, work ex etc etc .so, difficult to tell whether you would get a call or not.
There was 1 person whose experience was short of 60 months ( by 2 ~3 months)
2. It depends on the profiles of people who would apply this year. you can't compare it with the profiles of previous year batches.
3. Again, going by previous years batch profile, I dont see any preference. Overall Aim is to have diversity in the batch(My perception as selection criterion is not revealed)
