XLRI GMP Batch of 08-09 welcomes all the prospective MBA students in this forum.
We truly understand that decision to quit your current job and become a student at this stage of your life has to be a thoughtful and mature decision and hence, you have all rights to know everything about this course before taking this big step.
So, here we are, the Students Ambassadors Committee of XLRI GMP, to help you with timely information straight from our experience being inside the campus. Please note however that information we provide should not be taken as official information from XLRI Management.
GMP is a full-time, residential, 1-year General Management Program to provide practicing managers substantial exposure to theoretical foundations in management .Without much gyaan , we would just like to give basic information for everybody :
- Its a full time 1 year residential course
- The minimum years of full time work experience is 5 years.
- The last date for last years application process was January 15, 2008.
- Students can apply to GMP course through XAT as well as GMAT.
What is the application process for XLRI-GMP?
To be specific - essays/SOP/Recos etc? (I read thru all the GMP related posts but couldn't get these details)
Thanks

Hello,
Can you please clarify if GMP is appropriate for me?
I am a senior IT professional (age: 40 years) working for a Tier 1 Indian IT company as a Group Manager, with some strong academics (M.Tech, M.S) but not so great GMAT score of 710. The very reason why I am evaluating Executive MBA at this stage of my career is to build necessary competencies so as to head an unit or IT organization within next 10 years and am thoroughly convinced that full time 1 year executive MBA is the way to go.
However, considering that there is significant investment outlay to acheive my objective, I am not sure if the risk I am taking is worth it. Clearly, my cost-benefit analysis assumes that I will land up in a reasonably good assignment, post-MBA. Does this assumption hold true, given my profile and given GMP's placement trackrecord? I will appreciate if you provide your candid response.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I have just written the gmat and got a score of 640. I have currently 5.5 years of experience in an MNC in mining industry. Could you please advise on my chances of getting into XLRI in the GMP programme. Have read in your past thread that the last year students GMAT range was from 640-770. Does GMAT weigh considerably over other factors, such as essays and recos?
Thanks in Advance.
Hi Krovvidy,
XLRI GMP application process is pretty simple and does NOT require
any of the things you mention (essays/SOP/Recos).
Details of the application process are available at :
General Management Programme India, Program for Working Executives - XLRI Jamshedpur.
The dates in this link refer to last years admission timelines. This will
be updated with the new dates once the admission process starts for 2009 admission.
Please let me know if you need more details.
Thanks,
Siva

Hi Deepak,
XLRI GMP does not require essays and recos in admissions process.
Please go through the following link for GMP application details:
General Management Programme India, Program for Working Executives - XLRI Jamshedpur.
GMAT is one among several other factors, such as work-experience and interview performance, to decide admission.

Hi Siva,
thanks a lot for the forward. When do you think the 2009 admissions will start and do you think i stand a good chance at being shortlisted for the interview process; given that by jan 2010 i wil have an experience of around 6.5 years?
Thanks
deepak
Hi Deepak,
Based on our batch admissions cycle, I expect that applications will need to be submitted by Jan-mid 2009 (GMAT applicants). I will let you know as soon as they start accepting applications.
Tough to comment on chances as adcom considers a number of factors in deciding whom to shortlist and admit. Good luck.
Thanks,
Siva

Here is my profile:
1) 10th : 79%
2) 12th : 91% (0.1 certificate in Maths + College Topper)
3) BTech from REC : Topper in all semesters and Gold Medalist in IT
4) Extra Currics : Nothing as such to show as mostly concentrated on acads
5) GMAT Score: 700 (M 50 V 33)
6) Experience: 4yrs right now with 17 months international experience ( Exp. will be 4yrs 8months by March 2009)
What are my chances of getting into XLRI GMP?
Is XLRI very strict when it comes to 5yrs experience limit ?
Hi Nitya,
640 was the minimum score in the batch and those students had other exceptional attributes that compensated for the relatively low GMAT.
In my personal opinion, if it is possible you should try to take the GMAT again.
Based on our admission cycle dates, I think the deadline for GMAT applicants this year should be around middle of January 2009...so you could take the GMAT in early Jan and report your score.
You also have the option of taking up XAT this year.
This is just my opinion !!
Thanks,
Siva

Good to see this thread
I have a query regarding "profile check"
Aspirants and Current students, please feel free to react
Do spend few minutes at

I wrote GMAT twice recently(june/july).scored a miserable 590 (48,24,4.5)and 570.Hence probably it would be difficult to write again before Jan 2009(all my MGMAT and GPrep Tests gave me 650-710 but Verbal ditched me on the D day )
Now the Big Question is Should I go ahead and apply with GMAT 590 score?
I am having 12 yrs of Leadership Experience with Govt of India(last 7 yrs as Dy Director)
I have handled three different Directorates in my career
I am Basically UPSC officer (same service which selects Indian Railways)
BE-73.3%(Jadavpur),M Tech(IIT),passed CFA Level-I(USA) in june 2007
just wanted to have a quick response as "Range of GMAT" is not given in the xlri gmp site
I know GMAT 640 with 10 Yrs got selected last year
what abt 590 with 12 yrs?Any low GMAT case in the last batch?
is it good enough for interview call
thanks in advance
Hi Abhishek,
I will need to check on this. Will let you know shortly.

Hi Abhishek
I think your profile is good. We have a student with around 4 years and 10 months by Mar 2008 for last year admission. so, you can give a shot. They consider 4-5 years work-ex on case-by-case basis.

siva,
can u please evaluate my profile
work experience- 13 years (Army)
GMAT - 710
academics-80%
do i stand a reasonable chance? thnx
thanks people.
Its an eye opener for me as well-I though XLRI is strict about 5 years..
I guess my wife can apply as she would have less than 5 yrs exp( around 4 yrs 6 months) by March 2009,am sure with her past academic record and work ex she should stand a good chance.

Nitya,
Though the Present students would be in a better situation to comment, my take is 590 would not be really helpful,Typically 650 is the minm score which colleges look at. According to my Info 640 was the score last year, at which a couple of students got admission, though they made it up with good profiles. So my suggestion would be u should write GMAT once again and get a score of 650 plus.
All the Best

Yet to write Gmat
Hi brand manager,
As I said, they strictly consider it case-by-case basis. I think 4 Years and 6 months is bit on a lower side. So, I cannot say for sure .But no harm in applying 😃
Hope it helps !!
