Now the remaining 38 - 5 i.e. 33 stations can be placed anywhere in the four regions (before the first chosen one, between first and second, between second and third, after third) and this can be done by theory of partitioning - 33 in 4 groups = (33+3)C3 which is how they are getting 36C3.
Someone had asked a similar problem earlier too (on the same thread I guess) about ten seats and 3 people who cannot be seated on consecutive seats. I had posted a slightly more detailed answer there...can't locate it now :(
(BTW if we wanted all to be consecutive we would get 36 ways and not 36C3...please consider!)

Let common CP be c find c :-
(1060-c)/(c-950) - 1 =20/100
(1060-c)5 = 6(c-950) ..find c then ans= c(1.2)

l=List price c=CP d=discount on LP
First check 2) 408= l(1- 15/100)...Given ..we can find l easily
1)l=c(1.2)..given...CP ww can find easily with l given
3)(L-c)/c = 20/100......CP can easily be found with l given
So my take....2 & either of 1 or 3...

@scrabbler said: I will give minimalistic answers....the way I think one should think in the exam....hope it helps. The new number is 1/25th of the original. Hence 100 would become 4, a decrease of 96%. So (a) 25% of 80 litres is 20 litres milk. After adding water, the same 20 litres is left which is 20% of new misture => new mixture is 100 litres => 20 litres added. So (a) (Question seems incomplete - would have to assume there are only 2 candidates) If so, winner gets 56% => loser gets 44% => winner wins by 12% which is 144 => total votes cast = 1200 which is 80% of total people on list => 1500 people on list. So (d) Let's assume income 100. Household = 20. Left with 80. 15% of 80 = 12 on books. Left with 68. 30% of 68 = 20.4 on clothes. Left with 47.6 i.e 47.6% of original is 9520 => income is 20000. So (c) If S were 1, M would be 1 x 120/100 = 1.2 and R would be 1.2 x 100/90 = 4/3. Hence if S is 1080, R is 1080 x 4/3 = 1440 which is 72% of 2000. So (b) regards scrabbler

2 candidates A and B. Total votes cast, let us assume, are 100x (for convenience). A gets 56x, B 44x. A wins by 12 x. But we know A wins by 144. Hence x = 12 and total votes are 1200. Now we know that 80% of the people on the list (let that be y) voted. So 80y/100 = 1200. Hence y = 1500.
and in que 2 i didnt get that if the new mixture is 100 litres then why we will add only 20 litres of water as amount of milk is 20 litres..??

Hence 20 was added and it must all be water.
