This thread is for those of us who don't want to rush at the eleventh hour, those who are clear what they want one year from now and who plan to spend the next one year moving towards their final destination

At the same, the thread can accommodate those too, who had planned to app this year, but after some introspection or reality-check, decided that they are not admission-worthy this year and should better think of waiting another year and try to have a better shot..:neutral:

BTW, I fall in the second category...

So janta, let's get going!! We've one year to prepare for our dream destination!! Let's share ideas on how can we plan for a stronger application..

One thing that will start to worry you'll later and I really believe you'll should start working from now is Finance.

baccardisprite made a great post where he said no matter how small, start saving today. You'll are looking at an MBA pretty far ahead. Tuition fee is shooting up so it makes sense for you'll to start saving from today itself. Dont count on FinAid or Scholarships. Even if you do get them, your savings will go a long way in helping you live life a little easier. There are a lot of associated costs with doing an MBA in a top school, costs that dont get reported but are an integral part of b-school life( think dinners, get -togethers,outings.....)

@Neo...
That's a very good point you mentioned.
Any specific target figures that we should be aiming? Somewhere I remember, someone saying a hard cash of 3lacs would be good enough...I don't know what all he included/excluded...any pointers?

Hi Guys,

Even I am planning to app for US Bschools in 2009. Am doing the school research. :)

Will have 3 yrs exp while apping and 4 while joining.

Yup.. That's a valid point.. In fact, this is yet another reason for my waiting for another year.. And I guess I'm already in saving mode 😃 😞

Try to maximise your savings. Start thinking in terms of dollars. 3Lakhs at today's conversion rates comes to about $7500. Do you think this will last you two years?? Why not 6Lakhs? There's still two years to go.

Do you realise what a psychological boost it will be to go to college knowing you have $15000 in your bank account?? In best case scenario where you get tuition loan, that's 15k to blow over a period of 15months(i'm assuming summer intern will bring in some more dough)

When univ's quote total cost they just include tuition fee, books, room and food. Miscellaneous expenses vary from student to student and cannot be accounted for. Yet, you have to realise that a foreign MBA is more than just books and school experience. There will be a lot of wining and dining, socialising, things to experience and none of this comes free

Count me in as well.

Hey all,

Same here, quit my job at TCS, starting to work in an NGO soon, will be giving GMAT in june maybe, apping R1 2008 to start school in 2009.

DOn't have much of a problem with finance. will take a loan from Dad 😃 to be repaid in full. Which is why I would like to work in the US for a while before getting back, what do you think are the chances of getting placed there ?
also can we expect a decent salary if we shift back to india without working there ?

Looking at top 10-20 b-schools in the US, top 10 is tough with me being 'demographically challenged'

Thanks to all

Hey all,

top 10 mite be tough.. but not impossible. I am looking only at Harvard and Stanford... only these two suit my profile.

@everyone: This is not at a time to worry about finance. Just that we need to cut down on unnecessary lavishness......
