Hi Saurabh,

1. There is no average cut off GMAT score , but would say anything above 700 would be a safe bet especially considering you are doctor 😃 (Diversity factor).

For 2nd and 3rd query

The online application for 2011 is open from 1st October 2010.
Application dates for the various programmes:
The NUS MBA
Round 1 1 October 2010 31 January 2011
Round 2 1 February 2011 31 March 2011 (15 May 2011 for Part-time).

Any other school you are looking at?
Hope this helps.

Thanks
Varun

Hi Varun, Abhishek here. A good thread and will surely help for future references.

I am also planning to apply for NUS 2011

GMAT: second attempt due on Monday, first attempt 650
Work exp: 2 years till date.
Background: Manufacturing
Acads: Good
Extra currics: Good

I would like to know more about the credibility of NUS and its programs apart from whats mentioned in their website. Any tips?

I am also planning to apply to Nanyang Business school for 2011. No deadline dates are given on the site. Is it yet to be put up? Any idea on that?

Abhishek

Hi Varun,

Thx for Responding.
Well I'm looking only for those schools.. which have good Placement statistics.
Despite of having Multiple admits in various UK & EU b-schools, this yr... I did not joined them (Deferred most of them for the Next intake).. due to these factors..
1. Economic Downturn.
2. UK/EU schools don't arrange for Placements.. but just emphasize on Quality education.. & prepare you for any Managerial Position.
3. ROI
4. Value in India.. was not impressive
5. I'm looking for a Career-change.. from Clinical Healthcare to Corporate Healthcare (Pharma/Biotech/Healthcare).. so Placements are a Must for me.

So, this year.. I'm planning to write GMAT by Oct-end.. & focussing for Asian schools, having good brand-value in India, excellent ROI & affordable.. I would be applying to : ISB, GLIM, XLRI, NUS, NTU & HKUST.

Hi saurabh,

Well Europe will always be a tricky playground because it doesnt have a self powered economy to that extent. Its also true that some of the schools of Europe provide best in class teaching and learning environment and are pretty successful because even if the placement cell over there is weak, the local students are able to find jobs on their own.
So i understand what your apprehensions are.
Asia is the next big market and i second your decision to do your MBA in this region.

Well your choice of schools in this region is just perfect. I typically have pretty much the same list except XLRI and GLIM are out for me. ( though i am applying to few in canada and US also).

You might wanna look at Ceibs and HKU also. They are also in the same league.

You might wanna talk to the B schools about your background and where you want to go post MBA. HKUST may find it difficult to place u in your field and so does ISB. XLRI is the best i can see from the list.
As far as NTU and NUS is concerned , you can be assured that their degrees are well recognised in india and you will be able to land in a good job even if you decide to return to india.

Request you to stay active on the forum so that we may also learn from your experience of last year(app and interview process) and all the best for your GMAT.

Thanks
Varun

hi Abshiek,

Before i forget, All the best for monday 😃
Give your best and i am sure you will hit your target score.

Judging the business school also depends a lot on the Post MBA goals. NUS might not be able to provide you the same platform as M7 or ivy -league colleges do, but if your focus is to work in south asia( including india) then i would definaltely say NUS comes after ISB and nanyang( HKUST and Ceibs and HKU are also good , but typically indians have to learn the local language to be more successful) and NUS has substancial standing in singapore and india.

Also i think singapore and HK are going to be the next hot spots.

I will not repeat what is said on the website , but typically if you want a good learning environment , a degree which is highly regarded in Asia and a school where there is a good placement cell , then NUS is one of these.

Also i am trying to get a few of the current NUS students to become part of this forum and answer few of our queries.

As for nanyang dates are concerned , here they are:

Application for admission AY 2011/2012 opens in October 2010. There are two rounds of application submissions. We encourage you to apply on the first round to enhance your chances of getting admitted into the program.

Round 1
01 Oct 2010 - 31 Dec 2010
Round 2
01 Jan 2011 - 31 Mar 2011

Hope this helps :)

Was looking for this thread sincle long. Will be closely following this thread over the next months. Got close to 2 yrs exp in IT. GMAT :680/5.5.
Want to apply for NUS/Nanyang . I know the competition is fierce with average scores above 700 but worth giving a try.
Can anyone post links to previous years NUS/Nanyang forums ?

Varun, thanks a lot buddy..:)..I need those wishes..Fingers crossed..Lets see how things work out..

Thankyou so much for the Nanyang deadlines. I completely agree with whatever you have written. The quality of education is comparable to that the US and its much economical.

I was in Singapore in May and fell in love with place. You dont feel away from home in that city and its got traces of India to it which will work to our advantage. And bigger so, its closer to home..:)

What was the average GMAT score of those who applied last year to NUS and Nanyang? Its great that you are trying to get some current NUS students to b a part of this post. That will surely go a long way in getting our queries resolved. I will also see if I can find people who can be a part of this.

Hi abhishek,

The average GMAT last year was 690.
But you being from India( more competition pool) and moderate work ex and i guess engineer, considering all these factors, try to aim for 720+ and anything above that will make things smooth for you.

( doest mean 690 wont fetch u a chance 😃 )

Well i have never been to Singapore, but would love to go there and probably spend some years there. :)

Thanks
Varun

Hi kalyan,

Welcome to NUS forum.
Well the biggest common interest is all aiming for NUS MBA :)

Lets kick off the discussion.

Any idea what were the essays last year?

Thanks

Hi all,

I am also in the ring for a NUS MBA admit :)
BTW, any idea about the average work experience of NUS admits for 2010?

Hii all..
Well I myt sound a little weird to you if i say i would like to get into NUS with the kinda aggregate I've but I'm very desperate to study MBA and only in FINANCE. . anyway,,,

kindly help me choosing a good university, which u think will fit me in....
i'm gonna take a GMAT exam this month end.. already scheduled..
my percentage is 58.. i think around 2.5GPA
So what do u think which university will take me in.. and yes.. i've been working from Jan, 2008 but became full time only in November 2008.
please help me out.. thank you..

NUS requires its applicants to have a minimum of 2 years of full time work experience. So i think u shd be good
since u have a low GPA try to get a better GMAT score..
the question on whether the university will take you in, is difficult to ans...the adcom of NUS told me "For application review, we will consider all aspects of the applicants' profile including your undergraduate degree qualification, GPA grade, GMAT score and Verbal and AWA Score, working experience and professional profile, international work experiences and other professional engagements or extra-curricular achievements"

all the best with ur application

Hi,

A high gmat score will compensate for your low GPA as gmat depicts your current analytical ability. As you will be having the min required work ex.
Try to present yourself as a distinct personality , somebody who can contribute to the class and at the same time someone who can get something to learn from class.
