Hello Fellas. Lets start this forum for discussion on MiM / Msc in Management related queries. MiM and Msc are very popular in Europe and are regarded as an alternative to MBA (because most of the European school require 3-5 years of work experience). So many graduates having no work experience or having under 3 years of work experience find problem in finding a good European school for a management program. MiM / MSc in Management provides an excellent opportunity to get a masters degree with little or no work experience, with the quality of European education playing a major role in the process.

Following are the top 10 schools according to financial times rankings offering the above mentioned course:
1) HEC Paris
2) St. Gallen
3) IE Business School
4) Essec School of Business
5) Cems
6) ESCP Europe
7) Esade Business School
8) Rotterdam School of Management
9) EMLyon Business School
10) HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management

Also, St.Gallen accepts applications for Finance only of Students who have graduated in economics or economics as a subject.

Cems has a good network in Europe and has a tie up with many colleges across europe. This gives students an opportunity to study in the countries where cost of living goes down as compared to staying in London or Paris.

Hi!

Talking about Fuqua, i.e the Duke University, it is 15th in the overall rankings. It is well known for its placement success rank.

London Business School tops the European rankings and is 4th behind Stanford, Harvard, & Wharton Business School. Getting graduated from LBS will help you a lot in job opportunities since it has a strong alumni network all around the globe. Though you may not get placed immediately after completing the course (because of the job scenario in U.K), but a job (a dream job!) within 3 months is sure if you graduate with good scores.

Also, LBS is more known for its MBA than its MiM course. Still getting a Masters from LBS would be like plating your CV with gold.
@PM Also, talking about other threads giving out more info on admission for R2/R3, i am not aware of any such thread, since i myself am new to this. Hence i have started this forum so that we could have more people discussing about this subject.

MMS of Fuqua starts in July 13, have application deadlines on Jan 24 (R2) ,
March 6 (R3) ,
April 25 (R4).

LBS has them on 31st Dec, 31 Jan, 28th Feb, 29th March, 30th April & 31st May.
For Indians it is recommended they apply by the end of Jan so that interview and other formalities can be completed within the available time.
@PM as far as i know, acceptance rate for LBS is around 20%. I am less sure about fuqua.

Also, i would like to know which program are you specifically interested in? General management (MiM), Finance (MSc), Marketing (MSc), Economics (MSc), Accounting (MSc), International Business, Strategic Management etc.

For September intake, application deadline is June. But as i said, for Indians it is preferred that they apply by March.

A correction - For LBS candidates from India and China are advised to apply by the beginning of Jan 2013 and not the end of Jan.

Will any of you apply through GRE?

Are any of you applying to IE Business School? It is highly ranked in all the rankings but it's in Spain and the unemployment rate there is extremely high right now. I am not sure whether I should apply to IE

@tarun.g Hi tarun! Actually, your application process should be completed by the end of Jan. After u apply, LBS takes a week to evaluate your profile and gives a go-ahead depending on the suitability of your application. After the go-ahead, they give you 2 weeks for submission of reco letters and other SOP. So this process generally extends upto 3 weeks as far as i know.
@tarun.g IE is one of the top schools. Also, hiring across europe is almost nil. So anyways if you are interested to get a top masters dergree from Europe, you'll have to come back after the completion of the course.

Now, coming back to IE. Top colleges like LBS, LSE, IE have a strong alumni network all around the world. So this is the point on which you should decide as to which college would be suitable if you are graduating from Europe. They help you a lot in job search and many students find a job within 3 months after graduating. So if you are in the top half of your class. there are high chances you will be employed in 3 months.

@PM Dude your acads are excellent. Social Service is not a major judging point in these top schools. Of course it comes handy when there is a tie among candidates, but not mandatory, and looking at your scores, i don't think you'll need that as a leverage.

I'll give you some of the top schools according to me for general management:

1) University of St.Gallen (Switzerland)
2) HEC Paris (France)
3) IE Business School (Spain)
4) Cems (France)
5) HHl Leipzig (Germany)
6) City University:Cass (U.K)
7) Kozminski University (Poland)
8) Vlerick Business School (Belguim)
9) Eada (Spain)
@tarun.g No, ill be applying through GMAT. Dont know any one around who will be applying with a GRE score. Will let u know if i come through someone.
@PM See, in fuqua placements are good and happen on campus itself. But i am less sure about LBS. You do get placed, but not on the campus because your visa is such that you are not allowed to stay for more than your course duration. Still i dont know what is the ground reality currently. But just don't worry about placements if you are an LBS graduate. You will be placed through their alumni network.
@PM Cool. Keep me posted on it, also let me know if you need any information or any contact for the above mentioned schools.

I am yet to take up GMAT. First ill be trying for the top colleges in India. If i don't get them then ill go for Europe. I graduated in 2011 and have been working in a management profile since then.

Dude your statements are contradictory. First you say the hiring across Europe is nil and I would have to come back after completion of the course and then you say that if I am in top half of the class chances are that I will be employed within 3 months of graduation. Which is it?
@tarun.g Mate please read my above comments i have posted for PM. If i have confused you, i apologize Let me clarify once again.

1) Yes, Hiring across Europe is almost negligible because of the strict visa regulations which does not allow you to stay in the campus after the completion of your course.

2) Now, you complete your course (with your ranking being in the top 50% of the class) and come back to India.

3) Schools like LBS , IE etc have a strong alumni network all over the globe.

4) Even when you are back in India, you will be in constant touch with your respective school.

5) They will keep you posted about the various opportunities outside U.K (in case of LBS due to strict visa) and outside Spain (in case of IE due to high unemployment and zero job generation).

6) So such schools have a good record of placing you within 3 months of your graduation. You cant call it placement, but they will guide you throughout the recruitment process.

7) So, you may be in India, and some IE alumni contact gets you into his organisation on recommendation.

So this is how your chances will be of employment. Am i clear now? If you have even an hint of doubt, kindly revert back.
@pratik_rs : thanks for the clarification. i understand what you are trying to say but consider this, when you look at IE's official employment report they say that 65% of the students were placed in Spain. Now it's no secret that right now the unemployment rate in Spain is the highest in europe (more than 50%). still how is IE able to place their students in Spain. That's why I am a little skeptical

Also could you shed some light on schools in France like HEC, ESCP and ESSEC
@tarun.g Am glad to clarify mate!

Ok i understand your point of view. But have they told that the students placed in Spain would work in Spain? Because, for example, consider Bank of Santander. They are a Spanish bank and do their recruiting in Spain. But the final posting is maybe be Portugal or XYZ country. Can be a case. Need to explore that.
@tarun.g yes i'll tell you more about HEC, ESCP and ESSEC in detail once i am home. Currently in office.

To put it short,

If you are considering MSc in Finance then dont look beyond HEC. They are a class in it.

If it is a general management course, i.e, MiM, then i would suggest you weigh your option towards IE.

About ESCP and ESSEC, whatever little info i have, we'll discuss by evening.
