Dear MBA aspirant,

Greetings from IILM Institute for Business & Management located at the heart of the corporate city, Gurgaon!

We are pleased to share with you that the festival of Navratra's was celebrated beautifully at the campus with 'Band Baaja Dandiya'. The event was organized by Utsav - The Cultural Club where the students, faculties and alumni participated with full enthusiasm. The event truly created a buzz in Gurgaon

http://blog.whatsupgurgaon.in/dandiya-raas-nights-garba-dance-events-gurgaon/

The evening began by offering prayers to Goddess Durga

This was complemented by a special performance by the students from the nearby village as they sang Ganeshji's Aarti

The college band kick-started the evening by their musical performance, while the girls and boys of the Batch of 2014-16 & 2013-15 came together with an enthralling dance performance which set the mood for the audience to bring on their Dandiya sticks

The evening could not be complete without the performance of Mannat - The Band who brought the attention of the crowd and made them sway to the beats of their music.

The scrumptious Navratra food was enjoyed by all present at the event while the 'Band Baaja Dandiya' frame was the biggest attraction for many as they carried back memories to be remembered forever!

Congratulations Utsavites for a job well done!

Swaachh Bharat Abhiyan by IILM Gurgaon

"Let's Join Hands for a CLEANER INDIA" is our motto when every single person of IILM Gurgaon including students, faculties and staffs take a pledge of making Gurgaon a cleaner and tidier place to thrive in. Our PM Narendra Modi gave us a direction by saying "Swachh Bharat mission is beyond politics and is inspired by patriotism".

The government alone can never be put responsible for the uncleanliness in our society. It is equally our responsibility to stand up and fight the blight of uncleanliness and also have to convince others to follow and do the same. Our PM has allocated around Rs.13000 crore annually for this campaign but it will be of no use if we don't come forward for our society. Let's leave all party politics behind and make others believe that together WE CAN provide a cleaner environment.  We can at least dedicate ourselves to voluntary cleaning of our campuses for 2 hours each week and we believe if each one of us comes forward we  will have no untidy paces in campus within 6 months.

Where do we start? Well it all begins from the surroundings around us. With a dedicated team of students and faculties, we have made three separate dustbins to be put at separate places in campus for wet, dry and recyclable garbage. After taking a vow first thing on Monday morning for keeping our surroundings green and clean, we as students are dedicated towards the cleaning of classrooms, auditorium, cafeteria because after all we are a part of this college and we must not neglect our responsibility. We are planning for a dirty bag picking initiative in the nearby markets.

You all can get a detailed overview of our initiative in

We look forward to take part in events that will propagate this message in and around Gurgaon. Together we can and we will!

For all those who want a sneak-peek into what goes on at @ IILM Gurgaon :). I am a student of the current PGDM Batch at IILM Gurgaon. For starters, the fun never sets in IILM Gurgaon since it is a residential campus! Apart from the academic and industry exposure at the campus, there are a host of activities that keep us occupied till dinner time including activities conducted by different clubs:

Cultural Club: Whether it's the Independence Day celebration or the 'Band Baaja Dandiya' evening, the Cultural events by Utsav - The cultural Club always ensure every festival or occasion is celebrated with full zest and is witness to a huge participation from staff, faculties, alumni and current students!

NGO / Environmental Club:  'Pukar', the NGO Club at IILM Gurgaon has implemented the education drive with street children who reside in the neighboring village; the blood donation drive conducted in the midst of the month of September, saw an overwhelming response from faculties, staff and students of IILM Gurgaon

Finance Club: The 'Cashanova' quiz had a blend of Finance terms with movie clips in the form of a quiz. The winners were awarded with a Cash prize and full involvement from the core committee of the Finance club

Marketing Club: The 'AD MAD' show got the whole campus enjoying with the innovative ways of selling their products. The rounds were particularly interesting as the teams had to sell hypothetical products which got the audience engaged and in splits! The event 'Product Launch' is going to be the next attraction!

Debate & Current Affairs Club along with the HR Club have kept us abreast with the business world.

Aerobics & Yoga have been a huge success to keep ourselves fresh and it acts as a good break amidst the busy schedule

Further to the above, we have taken an OATH to keep our surroundings clean via the 'Swachh Bharat' Initiative and have a dedicated team for the initiative. Through this, we have introduced 3 different colored dust-bins, one for each type (biodegradable, recyclable and non-biodegradable). Also, we intend to go on a cleanliness drive in and around the markets of Gurgaon.

For further details, stay posted! :)

For all the aspiring students out there IILM Gurgaon has a wide range of activities going on in the college.Recently our Marketing Club has organized an event called Prodotto Lancio which is a great success.

"It's all about selling your ideas in the market" is the ideology of our Marketing Club and it is well depicted when the Club organized "Prodotto Lancio". The event not only had enthusiastic participants from both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students but also had an excellent audience which inspired the Club to organize more of such events.

Though the event had a late start but the anchors of the event made sure that the event remains thoroughly enjoyable. The coordinators invested lot of their time in decorating the rooms and making all detailed arrangements required for the event. The Undergraduate students came up with two of their innovative products  (Energylite drink and Internet dongles) and amazed us with the vast amount of market research and information they have collected in making their products presentable. The EnergyLite product is an energy drink targeted towards mainly to 6-12 years kids and is very much within the price range of commoners. The Internet Dongle is for techy guys who love to remain with the internet even when they travel. It has storage space as well as for saving data and has a benefit of free movies download initially. The Post graduate first year students surprised us with their products(Diana Tea and Paisool) because they have not only made their products more realistic but also came up with new strategies for marketing their products. The tea has a sweet aroma to it which they think will give that extra bit of edge in the market and also the medicated turmeric which gives the product benefit over the products in the market. The Paisool product is a utility card that will be quite beneficial mainly for the college students who have to make some tight financial decisions about their pocket money.  The feasibility of the product in the market along with the competitive analysis of the products were done in great detail. Dr.Rumki Banerjee is the judge of the event whose presence made the event more interactive and enjoyable. The program kept the audience interested with question and answer round which also had small rewards.

Such events by the marketing team keeps all of the students rejuvenated and keep us acquainted with innovative marketing strategies.

IILM Gurgaon lends support to J&K Flood victims

Unprecedented floods caused by uninterrupted heavy downpour wreaked havoc in Jammu & Kashmir, unleashing death and destruction of property, making the floods the deadliest since Independence. Over 1.42,000 people are affected and more than 1 lakh are still marooned after the worst floods devastated Jammu & Kashmir in September.

Though our PM Narendra Modi  announced  Rs 1000cr. special assistance for the state but it is the responsibility of every Indian citizen to make sure our counterparts in Kashmir are rescued. We, the students of IILM Gurgaon, came forward in such a time of crisis and almost everyone have tried to help the flood victims by donating clothes and money. Our NGO club PUKAR has organized a campaign for collection of old clothes for the people who are unfortunate enough to face the fury of such torrential downpour. We are overwhelmed by the response we receive from every individual staring from teachers, students and even our staff members. We all knew that we can't stop such floods but if every Indian try and help them out, we would certainly mitigate the damage to a very large extent. The faculty members came over with loads of clothing ( including shirts, sarees and even for small toddlers). We are even fortunate enough to collect enough money for buying of medicines for first aid, cough, epidemics, child diseases. It is just a small support from all our students, faculties and staffs from IILM Gurgaon, even though we know it is like a drop of help in the ocean of difficulties.

Let's just not stop here until we pull out every single victim out of that flooded region.

                                OUTBOUND TRAINING

'LEARNING MANAGEMENT LESSONS THROUGH OUTDOOR ADVENTURE PROGRAM.' How good would that be! That's what I, along with my class mates went for Outward-bound Management Learning and Organizational Development Services through IILM, Gurgaon. They have quite innovative programs, skilled faculty, robust infrastructure and facilities to help students learn fast.

The methodology they use, which we as a team could gather, consists of the following:

  •  Transition from campus to corporate
  •  Building teams faster and better
  •  Developing highly effective leaders
  •  Reducing process inefficiencies
  •  Inspiring participants to achieve the seemingly impossible

We were made to learn a lot of management lessons like Team-Work, Leadership etc. through the various Games they had in their program. The best part of training was that it was entirely practical, which actually attracts students more to learn. After all, "Experience is The Best Teacher!"

The most important thing that I got to learn from these games was know-how of working in a team. The 1st and foremost important thing is to be an active listener. The next most important skill is interaction. We should be open to discuss the strategies and able to persuade other team members. I learnt that we should have equal respect for all our team members. There should always be an equal participation of all the members of a team. Last, but not the least, there should be unity and trust within the group members. We had a competitor team, whose members were not cooperating with each other since the beginning of the program. Ultimately, they lost many levels of the game.

Above all this that we learnt, we need to have a person who has great ideas, and could assemble a team to bring that concept to life. We need someone called Leader.

Each person in every other game got a chance to be the leader of the respective game. I personally learnt that a leader should be honest in all manners. A good leader 'walks the talk' and in doing so, earns the right to have responsibility of others. A leader needs to be confident enough of what the strategies of the team are, with a positive attitude. He/She needs to be a person who can instruct others to work, alongside completing his own part. A good leader is tolerant of ambiguity and needs to remain calm & composed at the time of crisis. Instead of morale getting down, he/she should be able to manage his/her team well, with confidence and a bit of sense of humour for recreational purpose. He/She should be the one who could make the team members learn from the mistakes of competing teams, as well as from their own mistakes.

So, this was what we actually did in our learning program:

Activity => Reflection => Learning => Application => Activity (New)

Overall, it was fun learning these two main lessons through the adventurous activities and games offered at the outbound training.

We thank the institute for memorable experience of lifetime 😃

HAPPY DIWALI

So, we are nearing yet another Diwali but for me every single time it feels special- some more love, some more emotions, some more happiness- and it all got almost doubled this Diwali. IILM Gurgaon made the festive season even more colourful with plenty of lights , diyas which transformed the campus into a lavishly decorated yard. Lights peeping out from every branches, illuminated the campus. The candles contributed to the auspicious period of the year. Each of the four days is separated by different tradition but what remains constant  is celebration of life, goodness and enjoyment. Though we are familiar with the typical Diwali "chronicle" but on each occasion we are eager to hear the story all over again. So, I thought, why not I revise you all the narrative of Diwali.

According to Ramayana, Rama, the prince of Ayodhya was ordered by his father, King Dasharatha, to go away from his country and come back after living in the forest for fourteen years. So Rama went on exile with his devoted wife Sita and faithful brother, Lakshmana. When Ravana, the demon king of Lanka abducted Sita and took her away to his island kingdom of Lanka, Rama fought against and killed Ravana. He rescued Sita and returned to Ayodhya after fourteen years. The people of Ayodhya were very happy to hear of their beloved prince's homecoming. To celebrate Rama's return to Ayodhya, they lit up their houses with earthen lamps (diyas), burst crackers and decorated the entire city in the grandest manner. This is believed to have started the tradition of Diwali. Year after year this homecoming of Lord Rama is commemorated on Diwali with lights, fireworks, bursting of crackers and merriment. The festival gets its name Deepawali, or Diwali, from the rows (avali) of lamps (deepa) that the people of Ayodhya lit to welcome their King.

Diwali is one such day when our mind, body and the universe undergoes a complete harmony and we feel like sharing whatever we have with others. So, this Diwali lets be more generous, more kind, more helpful, more determined. Obviously we will burst crackers, but this Diwali lets think of older men who might be suffering from heart diseases. Try and make a donation to some cause. This Diwali lets distribute clothes, sweets and firecrackers to the street children and spread happiness. Instead of just eating a bit and throwing away the rest, give some away to poor people. Lets celebrate with our family and made them believe they are not alone. Lets find eco friendly crackers and save our Mother nature and our descendants from pollution.

Thus, with a few tiny actions, you will find true peace and happiness this Diwali. After all, you will have lit up more homes than just your own!

Festive Season is over, Now is the time to gear up for another event. Our Annual Extravaganza is ready to roll on.

Welcome All,

Let's do our Bit to make it  even more successful then the bygone years.

HERE IS A SNEAK PEEK PLACEMENT SEASON @IILM INSTITUTE FOR BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT, GURGAON

For last year students, the college year is coming to an end very soon. The students are busy cramming for finals and making their plans for the period after post-graduation. For many final year students, it is the first time they would be entering into the corporate world. It is an exciting, confusing, complicated and scary place to be in. the placement season at IILM Institute for Business and Management, Gurgaon has reached an all new high with recruiters pouring in, the recent one being the placement process of XL dynamics. Our seniors went through a number of rounds which included:

1. The first round was the aptitude test to know about student's skills and knowledge about the field of finance,

2. The qualified candidates were directed towards second round which was a data analysis based on housing loan.

3. The last round was leaded by rest of the short-listed candidates and they were handed over with a psychometric test to analyse student's ability and attitude towards job or task given in near future.

Since I was a part of student coordinating committee for the same, I got a sneak peek into what I would go through next year. Students and employees from different states and companies had come up for interview. The crowded corridors, the nervous students discussing their experience with these rounds were truly an exciting sight to see.

I was surrounded by the happy and not so happy faces, with the nervousness at its peak. I got to hear from many of seniors that it's the luck, which must stay with you. I can so imagine myself in these seniors, in the formal wear, with the folder in my hand; all ready for the interview!

DICLOFENAC - A culprit in disturbing our Ecosystem

In India Vultures are seen as omen, but we all  overlook a fact that Vultures are keystone species that perform a vital ecosystem service by disposing of carrion and their decline has a dramatic ecological and  consequences. Vultures are a crucial ecosystem service through the disposal of livestock carcasses and their loss has had huge socio-economic impacts across the Indian Subcontinent. It was estimated that vultures once removed some ten million tonnes of carrion a year. Without vultures, hundreds of thousands of animal carcasses have gone uneaten-left to rot in the sun, these pose a serious risk to human health. Livestock carcasses provide a potential breeding ground for numerous infectious diseases, including anthrax, and encourage the proliferation of pest species, such as rats. They are listed by IUCN as Critically Endangered, the highest level of endangerment short of extinction in the wild. The oriental white-backed vulture population in India in 2007 was estimated at one-thousandth of its level in the early 1990s. Most worryingly, the loss of vultures has resulted in an increase in the number of feral dogs around carcass dumps-the bites of which are the most common cause of human rabies in the region.

A recent study in India estimates that, concurrent with the vulture die-off, there has been an increase in the feral dog population of at least 5.5 million (Markandya et al. 2008). It is calculated that this has resulted in over 38.5 million additional dog bites and more than 47,300 extra deaths from rabies. The researchers believe that the increased number of rabies victims may have cost the Indian economy $34 billion.

Veterinary use of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) diclofenac is the major cause of these declines. Diclofenac has been used to treat symptoms of disease and injury in domesticated ungulates in many parts of the Indian subcontinent since the 1990s. In all of the species tested, death occurred within a few days of treatment with a single dose of diclofenac and severe kidney damage and extensive visceral gout (accumulation of the excretory product uric acid) were observed post mortem. The kidneys of vultures that died in these experiments showed similar pathology to that found in the majority of vulture carcasses collected from the wild since the declines began. A large-scale survey of the amount of diclofenac in liver tissue from carcasses of domesticated ungulates available as food to vultures in India in 2004 - 2005 showed that the prevalence and concentration of the drug at that time was more than sufficient to cause the observed rapid population declines which were occurring then.

There are important differences between Southeast Asia and the Taking the matter seriously, Katarniaghat foundation has sent a letter to the state government and demanded complete ban on the sale of this medicine. They said that the government of India has banned the use of diclofenac in the animals across the country but the medicine is being sold freely at the medical stores.Indian vultures have vanished because they fed on dead livestock, which were administered anti-inflammatory drugs like diclofenac, that increases the working life of cattle.

It is up to us to take it seriously and stop the spread of such drugs because we need to save our Vultures.

A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you."
―
Elbert Hubbard

The world is full of beauties and bounties and so do the humans, who are its sole inhabitants to speak and do whatever our minds says us to do.  This has been in practice for past many years. In every corner of the world, if we lay our eyes and ears on, then we will be able to see that they are different kinds of people coexisting together. We as humans have been credited with a unique gift of making friends. Friends, whenever one hears this word, one thing that shots to fame is the relationship that Julius Cesare had with his friend Brutus.

It is a relationship that has defied all boundaries. Be it between boy and girl or to that matter anyone else, we as humans have a general tendency where we want to share our feelings with someone who can understand us better than anybody else in this planet. For this simple reason only, people tend to make friends.  Friendship has often been regarded as a platform where two living souls come together to know each other better and some go on to be friends and some soul mates all for eternity. This is the only relationship which tends to change with change in time. Some strata of the society often talk ill if a boy and girl are friends. According to them, this is the first step to move into a relationship. But the society have to change its mindset just because of the simple fact that we are now slowly moving into twenty second century and where everything available is changed.

Not every friendship gets into an emotional bonding's even though there are cases where fiends are connected emotionally and some don't ventilate their feelings to others. But as we step forward into the 22nd Century, friends have also changed. The days of cycles standing outside the house, door bell ringing every next minute, those snacks time during summer vacations have all changed. Now a days, the trend of Social media platforms have engulfed today's Individuals so much that they do not find time to go outside and play.

Each and everything that they do is either on WhatsApp or Facebook. Somewhere down the line, the physical interactions have eroded and this has been a major factor for the troubles and misunderstandings to take place. The thinking of society has changed because of the lack of physical interactions among two persons. Though Friendship still remains intact, friends have gone separate even after being bounded by a unique and a special relationship like friendship. Playgrounds bare an emptier look where one can say that even graveyards look livelier than them.

Friends often find shelter in laptops, cellphones rather sitting in friend's house and gossiping over some issues. In the yester years, groups were formed amongst friends for different occasions. Though that tradition is still being done not physically but virtually. Dining room groups have slowly shifted to groups on Facebook and WhatsApp etc.

One must keep in mind that these social Sites are not to be blamed because somewhere down the line, we are the ones who fell prey for it. Changing is not a bad thing but changing at the cost of something is equally bad and heinous. One thing is certain, even if we try hard, can't bring back those bygone years but we can in coming future take a pledge wherein we can at least try not to forget this relationship that we have.

Either we must try to maintain this relationship or take some new steps in order to rewrite the way friendship is seen, So that its memories gets edged in golden letters.

"A Friend may never say, how much he loves you but will continue to care for you till his last breathe"

EXAM FEVER!!!

As a First Year PGDM Student, and with the exams on our head..I'm feeling a lot of stress in my mind. In general, MBA students tend to be very driven people who are career oriented and are already fairly used to having a large amount of motivational stress in their lives; the problem arises when you experience too much stress. Assignments, Presentations, and Events add to the tension. I feel a certain amount of peer pressure too as I see fellow students get promoted and hence; I need to keep up with all my class mates. So, it's one of the toughest times in the Post-Graduation & quite judgemental too!

Inspired "while" writing an Exam..

Exams are just over and I thought to get relaxed and write something you should never try to write in exams and let you know that it is not always serious topics, sometimes writing and expressing is FUN!!!!

If I Were An Author.. (was the topic of the essay.. and this is probably what I wrote..)

If I were an author, I would be the person who originates or gives existence to anything.. I would be full of knowledge and power, because with knowledge comes great power, with great power comes great responsibility, with great responsibility comes the great opportunity... to get screwed for whatever you did or didn't do!! I think.. if I were an author.. I would try to do better than all me predecessors! A new author on the block can get "inspired" from many authors before him. So, if I were an author, I might try to better the theories and explanations of the existentialist theories given by Camus or Kafka! Or I would be like Alexander Pope and write yet another mock heroic satire based on the socio-political-fiscal-sexual scenario of our city!! Or i could be like Jeffrey Archer and write detailed descriptions of useless chaps whose meaningless lives mean nothing to no one! Maybe even like Paulo Coelho, and write 15 Minutes, about the faithlessness of fame! Or maybe like Salman Rushdie and marry hot girls (ok, this maybe an ambition even if I am not an author)...

But the question is, if I were an author.. I would like to be an author of self-help books! I would like to help people, who can't help themselves or don't want my help anyway! Umm... the first book I would write is....... "101 Ways of Having Fun At Your Workplace With/Without Hindering Your Colleagues", "What NOT To Do While Preparing for Bank PO Exams", "What Should You Write If Given an Essay About Writing About Being An Author"...

(Disclaimer: Trust me people, if I were really an author, I would never write such a crappy essay, but in my defense I just want to say.... I was insanely pissed while writing the exam, tired, sleepy and hungry, because these irritating exams start early on Sunday mornings and continue engulfing the entire Sunday! and I wrote this piece in the last 5 minutes of the exam! so..... )

Gadhamai - We really need to stop this !!!!

In a strange religious lunacy, in Nepal, a Hindu festival calls for mass killing of animals that is considered to be the goriest killing spree of animals in the world. The spectacle of the 2009 festival made me protest this by writing on it and I would suggest every single one of you who reads my article to raise his/her voice and stop this inhumane event to take place again by visiting the website

http://rantingsfromavirtualsoapbox.wordpress.com/2014/10/30/urgent-action-stop-gadhimai-festival-sla...

Every five years the Gadhamai Jatra festival takes place in Bara District of Nepal where more than half a million animals are slain in the name of Hindu Goddess of Power. I was dumbfounded  when I came to know that such grotesque event are still favored by humans and even sponsored by Government. I was more shocked when I learnt that most of the Animal saving Organizations don't know about such an uncivilized act(or they pretend like that) except PETA India which is working very hard to get this into notice of the whole world and stop this barbarous act.

Over two days almost 200000 buffalos, goats, chickens and pigeons were killed as a part of the blood soaked festival. This ritual is based on a 260 year old story that says about a dream of a barbaric lord and the villagers now believe that the meat they will eat will protect them from evil. This year same will follow suit when thousands of animals will be caged and intentionally starved so that they get weak and succumb to the blunt blades of insane people. Most of the devotees come from India - where animal sacrifice is banned. During the stage of the gruesome proceeding called the "panchhbali," or five offerings, the throats of five kinds of animals are slit with a knife, buffalo, goats, pigs, roosters and rats, this death is deliberately protracted, it is slow and agonizing for these creatures, according to the belief of this gross and obscene tradition the Goddess prefers it that way.

It is estimated that over two million Euros will be the revenue of this massacre which were spent by the poor people to buy animals at exorbitant prices. Why this extortion? Despite international protest, this festival has got its approval in presence of ministers and government officials. Our whole attitude to the other animals with how we share this planet needs to be looked at in light of more modern thinking instead of the outdated idiocy of by gone days. There are no gods/goddesses or any divine beings that want His/her creatures to be killed.

Shame on Nepal - at least those who condone and participated - you bring your culture into disgrace and you discredit an ancient religion all in the name of greed, superstitious dread and ignorance. Shame on western countries with their factory farms, their barbaric slaughter houses, their institutions of heinous cruelty in the name of medical science towards helpless creatures. Shame on human beings for allowing this the on going relentless abuse and cruelty in one form or another of the living beings with whom we share this world, this horror that so aptly has been called the holocaust of animals.

Our grandchildren will ask us one day about this. Where are you during this Holocaust and What have you done to save them? We really don't have any answers

Hi IILMites. With the chill of the winter season slowly setting in, we feel that a Basketball match would be an exciting break after classes this week. We need your inputs!
