I am a first yr. student at LIBA.
Have received a few queries from ppl so thought of starting a dedicated thread for this.
I shall entertain the queries of students who wanna get into LIBA for 2006-2008.
Soemone asked me about the tuition Fees on the other thread..
Tuition fees for entire course shall be between 2.00 L - 2.3 L
Hostel fees around 2500/month
Last year the cutoff was around 80%tile for Calls.
Though comparisons are not allowed here,i'll just answer a query,i never ever repented leaving ICFAI for LIBA..but i do repent leaving mumbai for chennai 
No AD agencies visited LIBA this year for placements..

Still i'll tell u something..
Being in top 200 in ICFAI hyd. will definately fetch u good placements..but with around 700 students ,u have to make ur own choice where & how u want to study...
Its all about priorities dude...whether ur ultimate aim is to enjoy MBA or to just get a degree or u looking at the final placement only...
There are institutes that cater to all these priorities...choose urs.
Dont compel me to comment on various institutes...that cannot be done here..

How are you? My name's soumitra sen. Im from Kolkata. I used to work for E Serve intl., Chennai. I quit my job last may to prepare for MBA....this was my third attempt at CAT and it was a total disaster(along with most of the other exams I appeared for). I have a series or question for you. You may find some of them to be repetitions, but Id request you to answer them as extensively as possible.
Firstly, Im interested in specialising in Finance. You might think it's too early to decide on something like this without having gotten into the course yet. But, Im slightly adamant on pursuing finance. So my first question is, how's finance in LIBA? How is the curriculum and faculty?? What are the backgrounds of the students specialising? does LIBA prefer taking in engineers(...Im a BCA...)?And finally how are the placemtns and industry demand? Are students placed as mgmnt trainees or entry level executives?
Secondly, I read somewhere that LIBA is coming up with a hostel within campus? When is that expected to come about? Is there a deadline?
Thirdly, if you had to comment on the mix of students, what would your reaction be? Are they mostly from Chennai or is it cosmopolitan? Are they freshers or people with work ex? what is the male-female ratio?
and finally, how transparent is the selection process?? I have noticed, a lot of colleges arent as transparent as they claim to be when it comes to selecting students. What is the batch strenght? Are there any quotas??
For now, I cant think of any more Questions. I would really appreciate it if you could answer my questions in as much detail as possible.

Its good that u have decided wat u wanna specialise in..
LIBA has many banks coming in for placements..so even placement wise its good
Faculties are good...
No preferences to engineers or anything of that sort..
We have people from all over..
Batch strength is 120
New Boys hostel is up and ready..we stay in there
mixed bag of freshers and work exp..
i mean these are all std answers common for all insti..

its good you have started this thread. Hope to get answers for some doubts.
Idownloaded and went through the LIBA placement brochure. It had quite a long list of visiting and guest faculty listed there. It has quite a few foreign management gurus also listed.do all these people take courses for you or are they "visitors" who come for an occasional lecture.I am asking this bcoz i know its common practice for b-schools to list evryone who has visited their campus for the last 2-3 of years (its not that i think LIBA cooked it all up, just to hear it from an "insider" ).
Hows the scene for summer placements at LIBA this year? Have they started already? If yes, please give details.
How is the new hostel? is it enough to accomodate all the outstation students? Do u get single rooms or are they double occupancy? And the hostel fee of Rs.2500, is it inclusive of food?

nice to hear from an old member on PG... too many newbies around these days... myself a chennai resident and have played cricket in loyola and a friend of the physical trainer there.... nice place loyola.. but i guess a lil strict...
mik...whats an appropriate mark for a fresher with poor acads to make it... will they see overall percentile or sectional percentile in XAT..........

@robin_hood - yeh definately..with fees around 2.2 L..& the avg CTC being around 4.7 L..wat else does one want?
min package - 3.2 L
@smartgal7 - very valid question - college has tie up with the women's hostel right outside the LOYOLA college..so thats not an issue.Most of the girls stay there & others in a rented appt.
@srikrishnan - ur overall performance matters..acads is just one small part of the admission process..even my under grad grades are screwed ones ;-)
LIBA is an autonomous intsti..so it has its own PGDBM
@ - quilon1982 - we do have faculties from abroad coming in every now & then..just last week we had a faculty from Bordeaux Business School, France ..
