JEE MAIN 2020: Application Correction, Syllabus, Exam Date

MHT-CET 2016 - Aspirants satisfied with first phase of CAP

MHT-CET 2016 CAP registrations ended yesterday with many students giving the application process a thumbs up. Earlier this month, engineering aspirants in Maharashtra were wary of the new Centralised Admission Procedure (CAP) for admission to state colleges. The registration for CAP started on June 2, 2016. Since then, coaching institutes in Maharashtra have conducted instructional sessions for their students to help them with the application process. However, students who had heard about glitches during last year's JoSAA allocation process were expecting some kind of issues with CAP as well. But after registration, they have hailed the process as neat and systematic.

Aditya Harnani, an aspirant from Mumbai, says, "The were no technical issues with the official website while filling up the form. DTE had released instruction manuals about how to register for CAP and input our details into the system. There were also pdfs about the documents required and eligibility criteria for different categories." The number of students taking MHT-CET is only one tenth of those taking JEE. Hence, the amount of traffic on the registration site is also considerably less.

IITians PACE, Mumbai, says, "We had conducted an instructional session for our students on June 6, and advised them to fill the registration form at our Mumbai centres under our supervision."

The first provisional merit list of CAP will be released on June 22, 2016, post  which candidates will have to report at their allotted college with their prescribed documents.

About 13 lakh candidates who appeared for JEE Mains on April 3, and 10, are a nervous lot. Joint Apex Board (JAB) is expected to declare the All India Rank list by June 23. On the basis of the Mains AIR candidates can secure an admission in NITs, IIITs, and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).

All India Ranks of the candidates is calculated on the basis of JEE Mains paper, and Class 12 board performance, where 60% is for Mains total score and 40% weightage is given to the normalized board marks on percentile basis.

A public notice released by the JAB on JEE Mains official portal specified that in case there is an increase in Class 12 board marks due to re-checking/re-totalling/re-evaluation, it will be considered only if the revised result data is received from the concerned board.

The notice also stated that e-mails or letters sent by the candidates regarding increase in board marks will not be entertained. Candidates are advised to request the concerned board to send the revised result data to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) at the earliest, if not sent by the board earlier. Once the AIRs are declared, JAB will not entertain any requests or consideration for revision of marks/ranks, for whatsoever reason.

Candidates can visit JEE Mains website to check their AIRs.

JEE 2016: Architecture Aptitude Test results declared

Aspirants who took the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) on June 15, 2016  to secure a seat in IITs Architecture programme can check their results now.

All students who appeared in JEE Mains 2016 are eligible to register for seat allocation in NITs, IIITs, and other Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs) except for IITs and ISM. Candidates who were declared qualified in Advanced 2016, are eligible to register in all the 92 participating institutions.

Prof KV Krishna, from the JEE Advanced Unit, said, "Because we received a lot of queries from students about the seat acceptance fee, and the procedure to secure admission in IITs, IIITs, NITs etc, we released the details on our website. However, we will release the information brochure for JoSAA 2016 on the portal by tomorrow, June 20."

As announced on the JEE Advanced portal on June 19, when candidates are allotted a seat, they must pay the seat acceptance fee and get their documents verified for provisional seat acceptance at any reporting centre.

Seat acceptance fee for General category students is Rs 45,000 and for those belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes, Non Creamy Layer, or Person with Disability, the fee is Rs 20,000. Students can pay the seat acceptance fee either through e-challan or SBI Net Banking.

If a student does not want the allocated seat and has however paid the seat acceptance fee, they will get a refund once the seat allocation process is over. Krishna added, "While registering for the seat allocation process, candidates will fill a separate form about their bank details so that when they claim for a refund, the procedure is hassle free."

The JEE Main 2016 ranks required for admissions to the National Institute of Technology (NITs) and other Government-funded Technological Institutes, will be announced tomorrow on June 23, 2016, on the JoSAA website.

All the candidates who appeared for JEE (Main) 2016 are considered while preparing rank lists and will be allowed to fill-in their choices. In order to take part in the admission process, candidates will have to register themselves on the JoSAA website from June 23 to 28, 2016.

All you need to know about JEE Main Rankings

Multiple Rank Rule: Suppose there are less number of seats available under a particular category in an academic program than the number of candidates with the same category-wise rank seeking admission to the program, then all those candidates will be offered seats by creating requisite number of supernumerary seats.

Change in the Class 12 marks: It is possible that the Class XII marks of a candidate are revised due to retotalling, re-evaluation, etc. In this case, the candidate has to approach the JEE Apex Board through JEE (Main) unit of CBSE for the modified JEE (Main) 2016 AIR(s). CSAB 2016 is not responsible for issuing the JEE (Main) 2016 ranks. The candidate will be allocated a seat in subsequent rounds. The allocated seat shall be the same as what the candidate would have got on the basis of revised marks were considered to begin with. This can be a supernumerary seat.

Rank Policy: If the aggregate marks scored by two or more candidates are same, then the following tie-break policy will be used for awarding ranks,

Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Mathematics. If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Physics. If there is a tie even after this, candidates will be assigned the same rank.

The following TYPES of rank lists will be prepared:

(i) Common rank list (CRL): It includes candidates who are assigned the tag GEN, GEN-PwD, OBC-NCL, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC, SC-PwD, ST or STPwD. Foreign tag candidates are also included in the CRL prepared based on JEE (Advanced) 2016.

(ii) OBC-NCL rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag OBC-NCL or OBC-NCL-PwD.

(iii) SC rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag SC or SCPwD.

(iv) ST rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag ST or STPwD. (v) CRL-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag GEN-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD, or ST-PwD.

(v) OBC-NCL-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag OBC-NCL-PwD.

(vi) SC-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag SCPwD.

(vii) ST-PwD rank list: It includes candidates who are assigned the tag ST-PwD. (source- JoSAA 2016 Business Rules)

JoSAA 2016: Important things to remember while filling in choices

To secure admission in IITs/NITs/IIITs/GFTIs through JoSAA 2016, candidates will be allowed to fill their choice of academic programs in different participating institutions from June 24.

To participate in the seat allocation process, candidates will have to login to the JoSAA website using their JEE (Main) 2016 Roll Number and password.

Eligibility

A candidate is eligible to participate in the seat allocation process based on one, two or all three examinations viz., JEE (Advanced) 2016, JEE (Main) 2016 Paper-1 (B.E. / B.Tech.) and JEE (Main) 2016 Paper-2 (B.Arch. / B.Planning).However, irrespective of eligibility, only ONE seat from among the choices filled-in is made available to candidates. Hence, it is important for candidates to carefully prioritize the academic programs while filling in the choices.

Candidates will be allowed to fill choices from June 24 to June 28. A mock seat allocation based on choices filled by candidates will be displayed on June 27 (Day four). So, candidates have a five-day window to fill-in their choices.

"Locking" their choices after mock seat allocation is the most important part of the process. If candidates do NOT lock their choices, last saved choices will be locked automatically in the last minute of last date of choice filling. Candidates will NOT be able to change their choices / preference order any more.

JEE Main 2016: All India Ranks to be declared by late evening on June 23, 2016.

The Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE) will declare the All India Ranks for JEE Main 2016 by 8 pm on June 23, 2016. CBSE will declare ranks for all the candidates who took JEE Main on April 3, 9 or 11, 2016, on the JEE Main official website. In its earlier notifcation, JEE had declared that the AIRs will be out on June 23.

"The compilation of All India Ranks for JEE Main is a complicated process and takes time. However, compared to last year, we are declaring the AIRs a week earlier," said, J K Yadav, Deputy Secretary, JEE Main 2016.

Registration for JoSAA seat allocation starts from June 24, 2016.

JoSAA 2016: How to use the withdraw option?

Candidates who do not want to accept a seat allotted under the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) process can exercise the Withdraw option.

For exercising withdraw option, candidates should do the following:

- Candidates will have to fill-in the Bank Account details to which the seat acceptance fee is to be refunded and upload an image of cancelled cheque of the same account in JPG format. (Link to be made available on JoSAA portal.)

- Subsequently, candidates will have to download the withdrawal request letter.

- The withdrawal request letter is to be signed by the candidate and his/her parents.

- In order to complete the withdrawal, candidate must report at a reporting centre with the withdrawal request letter to vacate the seat. Unless candidates report at the reporting centre and submit the letter, seats accepted by such candidates will continue in their names.

-

JoSAA conducts a total of four rounds of seat allocation. The option of withdrawing closes before the last round of seat allocation. Candidates can withdraw up until during third round of seat acceptance period. Candidates cannot under any circumstances withdraw an accepted/allotted seat after the last round of seat allocation is announced.

Fee Refund

Once the withdraw option is exercised, candidates are not considered for subsequent rounds of seat allotment. Seat acceptance fee, which students pay during the registration process, is refunded after deducting the processing charges of Rs 1000/-.

JoSAA website faces server issues

Students who were logging on to the website of JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority), on July 26, 2016 were greeted with the message, "Our servers are facing a temporary technical problem. We regret the inconvenience caused. Please try again after some time."

The eligible candidates, those who have qualified in JEE (Main) 2016 and/or JEE (Adv) 2016 will be allowed to register and fill-in their program choices on JoSAA 2016 portal for five days starting from 24-June-2016. Another parent, Babita Mukherjee, also from Mumbai, said her son wasn't able to access the site throughout the morning.

When PaGaLGuY spoke to JoSAA Organising Chairman from IIT Guwahati, he said that the site could be facing a server issue because of the traffic. "It is not a major issue. The server may be down because of the sudden traffic. It will be resolved in a while," he added. The students still have 3 days more to lock in their choices.

If you faced such similar problems, leave a comment below.

The JoSAA 2016 committee has extended the deadline for online registration and choice filling from Tuesday, June 28 to Wednesday June 29. Aspirants will now have more time to fill in and recheck their choices. The deadline extension by JEE authorities has come as a welcome change for the students.

Prof K.V. Krishna, Chairman, JEE Advanced 2016 unit, said, "Earlier we had allotted one full day for the reconciliation of applications, so that the first round of seat allocation announcement could be made on June 30. But now, we are doing the reconciliation of applications from day one of registration, as and when we receive applications. Hence, we do not need a full day for calculation after registrations close." This extra time has been given to students so that they do not make any minute errors in their forms. Once the registration form is submitted, aspirants will not be allowed to alter their choices or any other details in the form.

Results for the first round of allocation will be announced by JoSAA on Thursday, June 30, 2016. Aspirants have two more days to submit their registration forms. For any more queries or help, aspirants can leave their questions in the comments section below, and we will get back with an answer as soon as possible.

JoSAA 2016; Aspirants question reliability of mock allocation result

JoSAA 2016 committee released the mock seat allocation results today, June 27. Based on the results, aspirants have taken to social media to express their moods and dilemma; with some aspirants happy to be allotted the college of their choice, and some depressed to not find their name in the list at all. Aspirants are now wondering about the reliability of the mock allocation results.

The biggest question students have in mind is that, will the actual seat allotment for Round 1, to be released on June 30, be somewhat similar to the mock allocation result? Aspirants should note that the mock allocation is just a trial run to get an idea as to what branch and college you are likely to get based on your current preferences. The mock allocation list is not an actual allotment list and is highly unreliable. This is because, aspirants can change their choices in the application form after referring to the mock allocation list. It is very likely that most students will want to change their preferences. Hence, too many changes in the inputs will lead to obvious changes in the actual Round 1 allocation list.

Moreover, the mock allocation list is based on aspirants' preferences as recorded at 5pm on June 26. Changes made in preferences after that time are not considered in the mock list. However, when releasing the actual Round 1 allotment list, all preferences recording as on June 29, 12 noon, will be considered.

Thus, those aspirants whose names have not appeared on the mock list, still stand a chance to get placed on the actual list to be released on June 30. At the same time, aspirants who have got their choice of college and branch on the mock list should not be too excited as there are high chances of this allotment changing.

After IITs, NITs see a 79% hike in tuition fees

With a 79% fee hike, studying at the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) is going to be an expensive affair from the 2016-17 academic year. Council of NITs unanimously decided to increase the tuition fee from Rs 70,000 to Rs 1,25,000 per student per annum from this academic year onwards. This revision came about after the NITs ninth council meeting held on October 1, 2015.

As mentioned in a release by the Ministry of Human Resource Department, revision of fees in the NITs is followed on the proposal of adopting a funding mechanism like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). NITs raised the tuition fees for the creation of capital assets, research grants, and covering of recurring expenditure.

However, the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and those with annual family income of up to Rs one lakh are eligible for a full fee waiver, and those with family income less than Rs five lakh, for two-thirds fee exemption.

The press note also stated that the students currently studying at any of the 31 NITs would continue to pay the existing rates of Rs 70,000.

Government to launch free JEE study material to counter coaching institutes

To curb the menace of coaching institutes around the country to crack the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), the government will soon launch free JEE study material for aspirants. With a total of more than 11 lakh aspirants targeting JEE, the government hopes the study material will make students less dependent on coaching institutes.

On the condition of anonymity, a senior government official told PaGaLGuY about the recent technology-enabled learning initiatives of the government. "We are currently working on three projects which will be launched in a few months' time. With a team of experienced professionals, lecturers, and teachers, we are preparing study material which will be launched for students all over India through 32 free-to-air DTH channels with the help of Doordarshan. We will also release a detailed guiding website, where they can check the programme details, channel schedule etc."

In May 2016, the Ministry of Human Resource Development had also announced a project, IIT PAL to help engineering aspirants in their preparation for JEE. The proposed application would have past 50 years' JEE question papers and video tutorials from IIT professors.

The official continued, "IIT PAL will also be launched through free-to-air DTH channels, and this is mainly for JEE aspirants so that they don't feel the need to join a coaching institute. Though it is a shift from traditional classroom coaching, the video tutorials will help them understand the topics, and thus prepare for JEE."

Parents spend a lot money on coaching institutes, and the government hopes to control that as well. "We will soon launch 'Swayam' platform, a massive open online course system, where JEE aspirants will get their regular assignments and tests. The platform will also be open to students currently studying in colleges and will offer a variety of courses," the official added.
