JEE MAIN 2020: Application Correction, Syllabus, Exam Date

IIT aspirants request JEE authorities for change in "category" details

Despite, submitting documents about a month ago, some IIT aspirants have asked JEE authorities to for a change in their 'category' status in the application forms. Note that JEE Advanced Registrations closed all the way back on May 4, 2016.

This is being done because the candidates have realised only 'now' that their documents have not met government requirements. And not meeting government requirements means losing an IIT seat.

PaGaLGuY confirmed this development with Prof KV Krishna, Chairman, JEE Advanced 2016, who admitted that students have been calling with queries on the subject of category. Category is nothing but division according to economic and reservation status.

The scenario of asking for changes however is not as easy as it seems, precisely because the forms have information submitted when they took the JEE Main Exam. Post that these candidates have qualified for Advanced on the basis of the same forms.

Krishna clarified, "Wherever the conversions are possible, as per the JEE Mains remarks, we will be able to take care of it. We will accept the documents as per the declarations given on Advanced official website."

IT aspirants beware of fraudulent calls

In the wake of some engineering aspirants receiving fraudulent calls, as a precautionary measure the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced Unit released an announcement on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, stating that candidates should be cautious of such calls.

The Unit said that some students had called their respective Zonal IITs, informing them that they had received a call from IIT Guwahati, the organising institute of this year's JEE Advanced, asking for some details and they revealed it to them. Though the calls have not caused any trouble so far, the announcement will help the students stay on alert.

They released the notification so that students are aware that the organising institute or even the zonal IITs for that matter will not call students seeking information.

KV Krishna, Chairman, JEE Advanced 2016, said, "We want students to be aware. They are already logged on our websites, if we require anything, we will share the information through their accounts."

He added, "We don't want the students to be at a loss. If need be, we will ask for it."

JEE Advanced 2016 answer keys: Candidates can submit comments through fax only

The answer keys for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced, Paper I and II, organised by the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G), was released today, June 5, 2016.

The answer keys are released for students to cross-check their responses in the exam. If students feel that either of their answers is correct, but is shown otherwise in the answer key, then they can submit a feedback to the JEE Advanced Unit through fax only.

Candidates don't have pay to any fees to submit feedback and comments about JEE Advanced 2016 official answer keys. They can send the fax on the following numbers as indicated against the subjects:

Physics: +91 44 22578224 OR +91 3222 278242

Chemistry: +91 11 26581067 OR +91 11 26581471 OR +91 22 25720305

Mathematics: +91 512 2590103 OR +91 1332 285346

Prof KV Krishna, Chairman, JEE Advanced 2016, said, "We will accept feedback and comments only through fax and not emails because students tend to send repetitive emails. For example, we will receive 1000 mails, for about 100 queries, and we go through each and every email."

In the past, candidates have sent multiple emails saying the same thing, which meant checking endless number of repetitive comments. Krishna added, "We ask our experts to go through the comments and it can be a time consuming process. But if the feedback and comments are sent through fax and subject wise, the work is delegated. This way our experts can verify comments in less time."

Candidates can submit feedback and comments before June 7, 2016 only, after which JEE Advanced Unit will freeze the process.

Once the review process is finished, if experts suggest a change in the answer key, or if something is missed, then the changes will be made before the results are announced.

Advanced is the entrance test to secure a seat in India's most prestigious engineering institutes; the IITs. It was conducted on May 22, 2016, and approximately two lakh students appeared for it.

JEE Advanced results are expected to be declared by June 12, 2016.

One of my cousins appeared for IIT Mains this year and missed the cutoff by 1 mark. He's not got his rank yet,

can someone please tell me

1.how can he seek admission in Engg colleges across India?

2.Is there a centralized counselling or he will have to separately apply to each state's counselling

3. Does he need to apply individually to colleges?

4. If someone can explain the entire process, that would be great

NIT Patna to facilitate Central Seat Allocation Board 2016

The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Patna, has once again been entrusted with the responsibility to facilitate the Central Seat Allocation Process. The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) is responsible for filling seats in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), other Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs), as per the All India Rank (AIR) merit list.

The technical institute in Bihar's capital was given this responsibility in 2015 as well. An official from JEE Unit told PaGaLGuY that earlier NIT, Trichy was selected as the in-charge institution to facilitate CSAB 2016. But NIT, Trichy was not deemed fit, following which NIT, Patna came back in the picture.

The Institute will be responsible for procedure and schedule for seat allocation, finalisation of resource centres and help centres and making necessary arrangements at those centres. The other responsibilities include printing of brochure, designing on-line choice filling forms, maintenance of the website, distribution and collection of seat choices on-line, laying down of procedure for verification of certificates and credentials, and any other task(s) related to counselling and allocation of seats against the AII-India quota.

An official from the management of NIT, Patna said, "Our process will start only after AIR list is declared, and the CSAB website goes live around June last week."

Subject experts to review answer keys for JEE Advanced 2016

The answer keys for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced 2016 were released on Sunday, June 5, 2016. However, those who took the exam have alleged that the answer keys have many errors.

The students could challenge the answer key by sending a fax with the required documents attached to it on or before June 7, 2016. The deadline for challenging the answer keys has expired, and JEE office has received numerous applications. "Though students have challenged various questions, there are two which have been challenged by many," said a JEE official.

KV Krishna, Chairman, JEE Advanced 2016, however, negated the prospect of an error in the answer key. "There are very few chances of discrepancy in the answer keys. Every year, we receive a huge number of applications, challenging the answer keys and we have a standard procedure for it," adding that, "After a student has faxed his application challenging the answer key, the same is forwarded to the subject expert who then review it. These reviews are scrutinised on multiple levels. If there are any changes in the answer key, it is revised, and bonus marks are allotted accordingly."

If at all the answer keys are revised, it will bode well for all engineering aspirants who appeared for JEE Advanced 2016. They will benefit with bonus marks.

The All India Rank (AIR) and the category rank will be displayed on the official website on June 12, 2016. No individual rank cards will be issued. However, merely securing a rank in the examination does not guarantee admission into the premier technical institutions - IITs or ISM.

It's hard to recall a student by name Mainak Sarkar, says IIT-Kgp

Mainak Sarkar, the man from a small town Durgapur in West Bengal, will be notoriously remembered for gunning down University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) professor William Klug of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering before taking his life. Before the college shooting incident, Sarkar had also killed his former wife.

The shooter is survived by his cat, Jiffy, who was found in his apartment, along with the 'kill list'. However, one of his former professors, whom he had planned to kill was found unharmed.

That is what remains of him. He has left behind no memories and even back home, the people, place and Institute where he did his schooling and college have little or no recollection of UCLA gunman.

Sarkar completed his higher secondary education from a reputed school in Durgapur. An engineering aspirant, he joined the Bidhan Chandra Institution in the Steel City in 1994-95 to prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination. A faculty member from the coaching institute, said, "He joined the institute almost 20-22 years back, it is hard to recall Mainak. But I faintly remember, he was a soft-hearted boy."

A bright and meritorious student, he cleared JEE in the first attempt and secured a seat at one of India's premier technology institutes, Indian Institue of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT-Kgp).

The gory incident at UCLA has sent shockwaves in his alma mater, even though most professors found nothing extraordinarily impressive about him. He had joined the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT-Kgp in 1996, and the professors and staff didn't have an iota of recollection of a student by the name Mainak Sarkar. One of the professors from the Institute said, "It's hard to tell how Sarkar was as a student. Because if he was exceptional, we would have remembered him."

True, he may not have been an unimpressive student during his undergrad years, but now on, he will be remembered with disgust for UCLA murder-suicide.

JEE advanced results to be declared in at 10.00 a.m. on June 12, 2016.

JEE Advanced 2016 Maharashtra topper, Preey Shah bags AIR 16

JEE Advanced 2016 Maharashtra topper Preey Shah is from Mumbai. The IIT Bombay aspirant has bagged AIR 16 with a score of 285 and is planning for computer science. He says, "I was expecting this. I have been preparing for JEE since 11th class at PACE Junior Science College." Coincidently, Preey is also the JEE Mains 2016 Maharashtra topper.

He has been participated in Olympiads in school, which he says gave him a stronger base in science. While most students around the country are worried about the allocation process next month, Preey is headed to Zurich in July for an International Physics Olympiad. He is sure he will get allocated a CS seat in IIT Bombay.
