JEE MAIN 2020: Application Correction, Syllabus, Exam Date

Aspirants say JEE Advanced 2016 Paper I was easy

Students came out from the examination centres wearing a happy look. About two lakh aspirants took the JEE Advanced 2016 Paper I across 115 cities today.  However an unexpected paper pattern and total marks did not come as a surprise for the students.

Students took a sigh of relief when Paper I ended at noon, today. The total marks for Paper I is 186 and had nine sets.

JEE Advanced 2016: More questions application-based in Paper 2

The JEE Advanced 2016 Paper 2 concluded at 5 pm today. Paper 2 had more application-based questions, whereas Paper 1 had no such question. Azharuddin, a student from Tamil Nadu said, "Paper 2 was easier than Paper 1. Difficulty level for Chemistry section was same for both the papers. Being from Tamil Nadu State Board helped, as some of the questions were the similar to what we are taught."

Most students felt Physics in Paper 2 was difficult than Paper 1. Anurag Mall, an aspirant from Mumbai said, "I felt Physics in Paper 2 was lengthier. It took more time to solve those questions."

A partial marking system was included in Paper 2 of JEE Advanced 2016. For a question with more than one answer, if a student marks one correct and no wrong answer, he/she will get due to the partial marking system. This change had many students in a good mood after the exam. Avi Mittal, an aspirant from Mumbai said, "I was happy about some difficult questions having partial marking system. I hope to get a good score."

Akash Ari like other students found Paper 2 difficult due to Physics but was jubilant about the Maths section being easy.

With JEE Advanced 2016 concluding today, students who prepare for this day for two years breathed a sigh of relief.

JEE Advanced 2016 Question paper all codes, Phase II

Hello JEE Aspirants,

Here is a link for various codes of question paper of JEE Advanced 2016.

ANALYSIS REPORT OF JEE ADVANCED PAPER - 1

PHYSICS:  Physics paper is very conceptual and difficult. Students would take more than 1 hour for sure if they had to solve all the questions

CHEMISTRY:  Paper was based on fundamentals but some questions were tricky also. Physical chemistry and organic chemistry questions were above moderate level. Few questions can be considered slightly out of syllabus also. Physical, organic and inorganic had almost same weightage

MATHS:  Math Paper 1 is tougher this time in comparison with that of last year. Few questions from calculus took more time than usual.

Multiple answers type questions were slightly lengthy. However overall the paper was more or less comparable to JEE of every year.

ANALYSIS REPORT OF JEE ADVANCED PAPER - 2

PHYSICS: The paper is very conceptual and tough. On an average, the students will not be able to complete it in one hour. One question in physics does not have any option correct.

CHEMISTRY:  Organic chemistry was tough. Physical and inorganic chemistry questions were of moderate level. Similar to paper 1 in this paper also some questions were tricky which required alertness and sound fundamentals.

MATH: As compared to paper1, paper2 was a bit lengthy. No question is doubtful or ambiguous. Overall the difficulty level of JEE 2016 advanced was higher as compared to previous years.

Amidst a lot of speculations pertaining to the exam pattern of JEE Advanced 2016, the exam was conducted today on the existing two-tier pattern. However, JEE Advanced 2016 surprised 1.6 lakh IIT aspirants with its new partial marking pattern in both the Paper 1 and Paper 2.

What is Partial marking pattern?

This new pattern enables a student to gain full or partial marks dedicated for a particular question. For eg: If a given question has its correct answer as A, B, and option C, then a student will get +4 marks if he chooses all the three correct choices. A student will get +2 if they choose any two correct choices. They will get +1 if they choose any 1 of the correct option. This pattern may seem to be beneficial to the students, however, if a student chooses a wrong option alone or along with the partially correct one's then he will be awarded -2 marks.

Around 18 questions from both the Paper one and two combined were asked on the obove mentioned pattern. These questions were for 64 marks out of 372 marks. The above mentioned pattern is not the only change introduced in this year's JEE Advanced. The other being the Comprehension format questions.

Twin Telugu states hope to claim maximum seats in IITs

More than 18,000 aspirants from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh appeared for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced held across the country on Sunday.

Incidentally, the two Telugu states together produce the maximum number of IITians every year.

While last year, 1,546 made it to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) from the twin states, and this year around too, they hope to send maximum number of students to IITs. Those who took the exam said they are optimistic about making the cut as the paper was easy. "The question paper was comparatively easier this year. Although I found the Mathematics section to be a little lengthy, Physics and Chemistry were moderate," said Prateek B, an aspirant.

The number of questions in each subject saw a drop, from 22 last year to 18 this year, and students felt that they had time on their hands to tackle each question patiently. "While the total score was 504 in 2015, I was surprised to know that it's only 372 this year. There were fewer questions in this year's paper," said Rajavardhan Reddy, another aspirant.

The coaching institutes welcomed the change in the paper marking scheme in this year's papers. They felt students may benefit from no or little negative marking and may make the cut. "Last year, students got -2 marking for every wrong answer and +4 for the right answer. However, this year students would be able to score +1 for every correct answer and no negative marking until they don't choose the wrong answer," said Anand Ramana, director of FIITJEE in Hyderabad.

Others too felt that the change in paper pattern and marking scheme will stand students from two Telugu states in good stead and help them secure top positions in IITs. "I am confident that a lot of students would make it to the premier institutes this year as the papers were scoring. Students seemed relaxed after taking the exam," said Uma Shanker, IITJEE coordinator of Sri Chaitanya-Narayana IIT Academies.

The top-ranking 1.5 lakh students of JEE Mains qualify to take the next level of exam, JEE Advanced. It is the qualifying examination for those seeking admission in the prestigious IITs and other technical institutions in the country.

17-yr-old kills self after failing to qualify for JEE Advanced

The gruelling Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) has claimed another young life, this time around in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Disappointed with his performance in JEE Mains, Vaibhav Pratap Singh, 17, allegedly shot himself at his home in Maseni, Farrukhabad district, on May 21, just a day before JEE Advanced. Vaibhav's family members rushed him to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead.

When PaGaLGuY spoke to the SHO of Kotwali Police Station, Farrukhabad district, he revealed, "Vaibhav shot himself with his father's licensed gun when his family members were fast asleep. His family members got up when they heard the gunshot and found Vaibhav seriously injured. The post-mortem report attributed his death to firearm injury. His family revealed that Vaibhav was depressed after he failed to qualify for JEE Advanced 2016."

Vaibhav had secured 98% in his intermediate class and was also preparing for IIT-JEE at a Bengaluru-based coaching centre. Vaibhav's father, who is serving as a Havildar in the Indian Army, is in the state of shock. "The reason behind this extreme step is yet to be ascertained as he has left no suicide note," said SHO Kotwali.

JEE Advanced candidate's shirt cut to half as a preventive measure

On May 22, a student appearing for the JEE Advanced 2016 exam was made to cut his full sleeves shirt at an exam centre. Only after his shirt length met the criteria, was he allowed to write the exam. The incident happened at Sadvidya college, Mysuru.

PaGaLGuY spoke to Mr. D S Narasimha Murthy, Principal of Sadvidya College about the incident. Murthy said, "We followed instructions given by concerned IIT representative. The security checks are strictly followed. The dress code to be adhered by the candidates was released much in advance to help candidates." On being asked about cutting the shirt, Murthy said, "We gave him two or three options, however, he was not willing to part with his "lucky shirt". To allow him to appear for the exam we decided, with his consent, to cut the shirt."

The student had travelled a distance of more than 30 K.m. to reach his exam centre at Sadvidya college. On reaching the centre, the student was reminded about rules governing JEE Advanced. With no other option left, authorities and representatives of IIT present at the centre suggested chopping the sleeves to half its length.

The list of instructions for students specifically about dress code and things that students were allowed to carry inside the exam centre was released on May 11 on JEE's official website.

Candidates who appeared for the JEE Main Paper-2 which was held on April 3, 2016, can now review their OMR sheets. The scanned images of OMR sheets on which the candidates have recorded their responses are made available on www.jeemain.nic.in. A candidate can review his responses from May 24 to May 27 inclusive of both the dates.

Along with the OMR sheet, JEE has also uploaded the official Answer key for Paper 2. Candidates can challenge JEE if they find their responses different from what they have marked. Rs 1000 will be the prescribed fee for each challenged response. The challenges for the OMR sheet will be accepted only through the following link http://jeemain.nic.in/jeemainapp/recResponse/AuthForRecResponse.aspx.

Candidates can also challenge the answer key uploaded on the official website of JEE. Candidates will be charged Rs 1000 for every question challenged. 2016

Harasees Nanda, an IIT aspirant who took the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) has moved to the Punjab and Haryana High court on May 23, 2016, against the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE). Nanda filed a case claiming the answer key released by CBSE for JEE Mains 2016 on April 16, was incorrect.

Nanda secured 155 marks in JEE Mains 2016 according to the official answer key. However, he claims his score should be 165 on the grounds that the official answer key has errors. He has appealed to the Court for rectification of the official answer key.

Nanda has claimed that two answers in the key did not conform to the answer prescribed in the NCERT books. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice to CBSE demanding a reply by June 6, 2016.

The Deputy Secretary of JEE Unit, J. K. Yadav, told PaGaLGuY, "The verification of answer keys goes through a lengthy process, and it is usually rectified at three levels. If in case it is wrong, then the marks for the error will be awarded to every candidate who took JEE Mains 2016."

If Mains answer key is revised and marks are awarded to each candidate, then it poses a big question for JEE aspirants. What will be the course of action for candidates who failed to qualify for Advanced by a margin of few marks and might qualify now? "Every year numerous cases are filed pertaining to the answer keys. The possibility of the answer key being wrong is negligible," said Yadav.

Sun yaar chill maar say JEE 2015 toppers

The JEE Advanced 2016 which put to test two years of hard work done by engineering aspirants is finally over. PaGaLGuY spoke to JEE 2015 toppers to know how they spent their time after the exam.

Sankalp Gaur, AIR 55, said, "Preparing for the exam kept me busy earlier. So, after the exam I decided to relax in ways I always wanted to do. I played Badminton to my heart's content. I read some novels. As it was vacation time, I also travelled to different places with my family."

When asked about what he did in his free time, Divyansh Pareekh, AIR 18, laughed and said, "I did nothing!" Divyansh added, "It was difficult to decide what to do initially! But I preferred hanging out with my cousins and friends. I played Football and Cricket which I love."

While most toppers spent time relaxing, Sheshansh Aggarwal, AIR 58 had a totally different take. He spent his holidays studying! Sheshansh said, "Immediately after giving my JEE Advanced, I attended a 10-day Chemistry camp. Later I also attended a Physics camp. I enjoyed at these camps with my friends. This was my way of relaxing."

With lots of free time at hand, aspirants can let their hair down by travelling places, reading novellas or just do nothing! Happy holidays to you!

MHRD's IIT-PAL may see delay in launch, MOOC platform being considered for prep as well

The MHRD's initiative to release an IIT PAL app for assistance to JEE aspirants received huge cheers last week. The Ministry was set to release the app in the next 2 months with past 50 years' JEE question papers and video tutorials from IIT professors. However, with newer amendments to the plan, it seem PAL may not be available for student learning for the coming JEE exam. Sources say, the MHRD is now planning to rope in current year IIT students to prepare notes and study material for the app.

Aspirants who were earlier rejoicing at the initiative are now skeptical about the ministry sticking to period of launch. Arun Goyal, 2017 JEE aspirant from IITian's PACE, says, "The government is being too ambitious by wanting to release the app by August. It is difficult to compile so much data so soon."

However, the expected delay in launching the app is not what is concerning the aspirants. The fact that the ministry has now decided to launch the preparation material on its MOOC platform in the form of open courses is what is startling. MOOC as a platform is available to foreign students as well. The aspirants are worried that the material published on MOOC in the form of courses might be paid and will limit the free benefits of the app. How and why is the MHRD planning to use two largely different mediums for publishing the study material is still in question.

IIT aspirants request JEE authorities for change in "category" details

Despite, submitting documents about a month ago, some IIT aspirants have asked JEE authorities to for a change in their 'category' status in the application forms. Note that JEE Advanced Registrations closed all the way back on May 4, 2016.

This is being done because the candidates have realised only 'now' that their documents have not met government requirements. And not meeting government requirements means losing an IIT seat.

PaGaLGuY confirmed this development with Prof KV Krishna, Chairman, JEE Advanced 2016, who admitted that students have been calling with queries on the subject of category. Category is nothing but division according to economic and reservation status.

The scenario of asking for changes however is not as easy as it seems, precisely because the forms have information submitted when they took the JEE Main Exam. Post that these candidates have qualified for Advanced on the basis of the same forms.

Krishna clarified, "Wherever the conversions are possible, as per the JEE Mains remarks, we will be able to take care of it. We will accept the documents as per the declarations given on Advanced official website."
