Hi All,
Can anybody throw light about IIMC-EPBM program. what is the status of its credits in fetching a better pay and position jobs after the course?
Hi Anusree,
After completion of IIMC-EPBM program you won't be eligible for placements (campus) like a 2 year MBA. But, EPBM course would enable you to get a better insight to management at higher altitudes. This course would be a value addition to your CV, and it is a very respect course in the industry.
Application procedure involves submitting a detailed form and a Statement of Purpose, which is evaluated by profs of IIMC.
Please revert in case of any query.
Hi Aasish,
Thanks for your comments. I too got IIM C acceptance letter for EPBM batch-15. On the net lot of seniors are saying its NOT upto the mark and most of the Profs are NOT taking this course as serious. To be honest with you am not looking for campus placements BUT am looking for good knowledge so that i can utilise in my future career plans. Will this course be any benefical after paying 2.5L ?
Regards
Narasimham
Well i checked out a couple of other forums where people have enjoyed doing EPBM and loved the entire stuff, e.g. IIM Calcutta – EPBM 14 – Campus Visit – Day 0 - Arrival
It will be useful if someone who has passed through this EPBM course replies to these queries.
As far as I am concerned, I am looking forward to meet some nice people, use their experience and look forward to life after EPBM !!!
Aashish,
Thanks for quick reply, i read following comments from one of the senior after that am really confused , did you encounter the following things during your sessions ?
===========
I am a current student at EPBM and it is really sad the way it is being run. What I have gathered is that IIM-C is just using this course as a milking cow. Did I gain anything from the course answer is straight "NO".
The reasons are fairly simple
About Profs :
-------------
- Not all Profs. take interest(expect 2-3). They seem mechanical. So at the end of class there is always a hollow feeling.
- Couple of them make you feel unwanted. Always having an air we are above you.
- They don't like to compare PGDBM and EPBM. If you ask them they say PGDBM is a full time course and this is a Part-Time course. End of story. If you try to probe they say pl. contact the center co-ordinator or the Brand Executive.
- Profs make assumptions to suit themselves. For example - you must have faced similar issues @ your work place. - you should be able to relate to such things in your work place. Good Morning! - if I had faced those issues then I would not have come to you. How the heck can you make that assumption. It is done by many prof. the more abstract the subject the more times this is said. Can someone tell me if I have 5 yrs of exp. how can I be in senior management.
- Well the profs. will forget you as soon as they are out of the class. No amount of emails will be of any help. They are too busy!!!
The lessor said the course the better. Let's talk about the course.
About Course
-------------
- This course is NOT A DEGREE. So much for going to IIMC. Hence NO ALLUMNI status.
- Buy your own books. After paying 2.1 L.
- The course teaches just about basics if someone wants to know where to start pl. look up the wikiepedia and pick up a couple of books and start reading. It should be enough. I learned many of my subjects like that.
- The cases discussed are limited in nature due to time. BUT there is no home assignments given. Possible reasons IIM-C does not want to spend too many resources. So just come listen and go.
- There is credit for doing anything because there is not much to do.No Assignments.
- No credit for any interaction. So, even if you keep quite it really does not matter. People don't come and still get an EPBM. The certificate for sale!. I have a few people in the batch. One asked me on the exam day which exam is it!
- IIM - assumes that you all interact.
- This course is not recoganized by any university. The only company I have heard gives some wieghtage is IBM in India.
Infrastructure Issues
--------------------
- Connections go down. Now and then.
- You can only hear the prof. If any of the students is speaking well u can't hear a word.
- Some of the centers are not even equipped properly having only 2-3 pcs.
- Recordings are not available after 21 days. Well IIMC thinks only people in the world who have work is IIMC everyone else is free. If you are travelling to US for a month. Say good bye to the course. Reasons given are Intellectual Property issues. . As far as I can guess is IIM does not want people to know about the quality of BS they do.
-You don't have access to any online cases of any sort except for your yahoo group. Reason is IIMC has not digitized there cases. Gimme a break,I thought this was the oldest IIM in India.
You might call it cribbing but these are all issues which I faced and I am not very happy about it. Just waiting for this course to end

Aa_narasimham,
It was Prateek who replied, not me. So, thanks to him for providing the link.
I have just screened the EPBM's brochure for this year. Some of the USP points listed in it are:
-Books, specially designed cases and study material included in course-ware.
-Alumni status from IIMC; Alumni of IIMC-MDP.
- Certificate Course
Infrastructures issue could be one off case, because the Hughes Net center I visited was pretty well equipped with 20-25 PC. And the application acting as an interface to students and profs had plenty of useful features to enable better interaction.
PS: Not trying to advertise EPBM, and neither I'm going to take up the course in near future, just sharing whatever information I had. At last, please take informed decisions.
Cribbing is another face of life...Not maligning someone but what you make of this course is upto you...I saw that the center where I will be studying this course (Hughes) has good Infra. I have seen people doing LDP for HR, Operations from XLRI, IIMs and they seemed happy.
I know that it is not PGDM...I also know that I dont have the luxury of time to pursue PGDM from IIMC or any other IIM...Hence, I decided to pursue what I can afford, both time-wise and financially...
Two of my friends have already finished such courses and I don't see them unhappy about this...they have made good use of this course and the knowledge post completion...
Hi
I would like to know the effective of IIMC-EPBM course from someone from Mumbai who has completed the course recently i.e. 2010-11 batch ...
Since, the classes are conducted over the web, are they interactive? Are queries answered? Is it worth spending one year on this course? Does it have any recognition? Are course materials provided and are they good? How are the profs?
Regards
Pramila Salian
Dont do this course, it is waste of time,
Check out the below text in detail,
This review is about EPGBM(Executive course in Global Business Management) which has nothing Global about it. This is not me but the Professors themselves say in the class.
This is about my bad experience of the Course conducted by IIM Calcutta which is conducted in coordination of Hughes education and Access education.
Access education is the local training institute for us and it will be different for different cities.
They have a misleading excellent marketing literature and have all the marketing steps to attract news students.
I fell to that, the course was promised to start on a certain date and a huge advance in the tune to Rs 80,000/- was taken, but the course is delayed by 3 months. They do not bother to convey the right reason, it is obvious that they enjoy the interest on this huge amount.
They also take all the fee in advance.
Ultimately the course starts and here is the experience that I had,
1) With regards to the way in which this class is conducted, the best way would be to give a example :)
Here is a example of the Finance class
Class No#1 :- Professor repeats the same things that he had taught in the Campus visit, he was exhausted and was yawning throughout the class.
Class No#2 :- Was comparatively a good class and it went good, apart from seeing a exhausted professor.
Class No#3 :- Network problem, class starts late, Professor calls Hughes in front of us to check the status, Hughes says everything is fine, Professor says I cant do anything and he will finish the class and we can hear the recordings later on. He does the class with 30 to 40 attendees(out of a batch of 170) and with continuous network problems.
Class No#4 :- He starts the discussion on 2 Case Studies which were never given to us, even on repeatedly telling he does it and ultimately stops to check from their executive if they have been given to us. She incorrectly tells that they have been uploaded and he again starts, but when we all again tell the reality he stops that class. He finishes the remaining class by discussing another topic which he had already discussed while we were in the campus.
Class No#5 and 6 were comparatively good.
None of these things are my complaints, there are recordings of these sessions and any one can check the ground reality of this course.
To give a few other examples,
One particular professor spends 50% of the class time in changing the controls to the user and back to him, even though it is a known fact that technology never works that too with a huge batch to 170 students.
In another professors class, students openly tell him that he is boring us by not teaching correctly, unfortunately he is having a huge experience and is supposed to be a good professor. We end up attending a boring Marketing class which should have been one of the most interesting one.
Most of the professors use the ready-made slides given by the book manufacturers and just read them out, there is no creative original teaching one can easily read the slides and learn the topic taught by the professor, there is no need to learn from a institute like IIM.
There are professors who come consistently late and do not acknowledge it.
To sum up, the professors are supposed to be the best in the world and hence we cannot raise our voice, on the other hand for them it is one of the least important thing and hence they do not show the dedication or interest in teaching for us.
I dont say all the courses went on like this, but the trend is similar, incidents might be different.
2) Exams, they have a schedule which is never followed, exams are cancelled/postponed frequently and that too at the last minute, results are declared on a huge follow up, they say is percentile based but it is not, the exam will be online and expect huge delay while moving from one question to another and also network outage which is not acknowledged by them.
It is a pain to attend classes in such a way after paying such a huge amount and attending the classes with lot
of time management.
3) Books, they never reach on time, they are delayed again no response or positive response from Hughes, IIM or Access education. But luckily the exams can be given without books, the presentation slides and attending the class will help. On the other hand that also tells the level of this course.
4) they say that we need to do a project, even after submitting the project topic as per their deadline we do not know if we should do it or not even after 2 months of that deadline. No guide assigned yet, no reply to emails from the all the responsible entities. Again, that tells the seriousness of the institutes.
5) Schedule changes, Quite frequently, difficult for a working professional to plan. Actually the course runs as per the convenience of the professors and there is no consideration given to the 170 students attending this course.
6)They admit students from Zero to 20 years of experience, hence imagine the quality of learning. The chat windows is like the one that we see in Yahoo group chat, no learning only time pass.
To Sum up:-
There is no seriousness on the part of professors. It is a course for the Professors, Hughes and Access Education to make some good money at their convenience, there is no seriousness on delivery of the content or the concern of 150+ guys enrolled in it. We cannot raise the voice against any one as there are 3 entities and the host organization and professors who teach us are supposed to be the best in the world. There are 4 program directors from IIM and hence it is difficult to approach any one of them to get firm input, rather there are cases where we see that they do not have coordination between themselves. It is like a blame game, if we talk to professors they tell us to talk to Hughes and other way round.
On the other hand they are very sincere about the fees, deadlines are rigid and they disable the ID if we do not pay it on time. In our case, after paying all the initially agreed fee they come up with a new amount which is supposed to be service tax and they disabled the ID for that new fee requested by them without any consideration for the 99% fee that has been already paid to them.
Be aware that this course has no recognition and is just a training program, rather be aware that any course in India which is taking service tax is not a recognized course. Government does not charge tax for recognized courses. Government is intelligent in taxing all such courses which are for pure money earning and have no education aspect involved in them.
Do not get carried away by the brand name of IIM Calcutta and the false promises done by the marketing literature.
Well, I can say, this course is suitable for those who have a stable job, their management wants them to do a course which will asure them that he has that knowledge and you do it on companys money.
The certificate has no respect any where outside, the learnings are poor(the above disussion should tell) and time wasteage is huge.
Best of Luck.
Hi,
Thanks for your reviews, as today is the last day for enrolling for this course(EPGBM) for dec 2011 batch and aftr your exp with this course, i feel i should better luk out for some other option.
Pls help me in listing out the courses which are of gr8 value for working professionals.
My total wrk exp - 4.11 yrs.
Qualification - BMS grad.
Regards,
Merlyn.
I would suggest to do a course which is enough flexible(permits you to attend classes from home etc) or if you think you cannot study on your own then it would be advisable to do a course which has personal training instead of online.
I suggest IIM Lucknow EPBM, its just started and it has good course contents with economical fees structure. last date is Nov 8 so better hurry up
Hi All,
does students of Exec.Programs from IIMs thru Hughes/NIIT imperia courses get official email IDs from the IIMs? I mean wil each student get his own email ID from IIM?
Dear All,
I have been seeing all the posts here.
Firstly let me tell you that there is always a difference between a full time MBA program and a Part time MBA program even if you do it from the best B-school in the world.
Nevertheless there is a huge number of people who do it to enhance there career opportunities. Does it help?? I will give a few insights here.
1) A friend of mine did a program by IIMC through the Hughes platform. He was very satisfied and he is doing great in his career.
Did he get a placement? NO, he did not want it. He had gone through the program to add value to his CV and learn as he missed out on his regular MBA from a good B-school. I asked him why didn't he do it from the other private institutes. He told me he enrolled into a institute and left after a couple of months as it was too bad in comparison he thought the program from IIMC/Hughes was far better. The program content and study material was satisfactory. The professors were the same who took classes at IIMC/PGDBM.
My friend is also a colleague of mine and I have seen his confidence go up once he was into the program.
One thing I realised is that everything depends on a person. If you are good enough this program is good enough for you.
I saw a post from Kapilgg...though I appreciate such a detail information but I thought it was more of a biased review and people one thing is that none of us is an expert here...right?? Judge everything for yourself...it is not difficult. Go thru the brochures, study centers...talk to few of the ex-students. Sum it all up and then take a decision. If you want to criticize you will find fault with all the programs even the full time PGDBM program has got some drawbacks and the same 'bored' professors take the classes. I have been a part of it.
My take is, if you are not an MBA from a good B-school...doing one while working definitely makes sense. Just make sure which one suits you. But IIM tags will definitely give you an edge over other part time ones.
Best of luck to all.
Hi All ,
I am an IIT grad, working in a business consulting profile from a MNC with a 10 months experience. I have been given an opportunity by my company to do this PGBM course by IIM C (fees reimbursed after finishing course but need to stay one more year in company So overall 2 more years from now.) .
Just when i was planning to do a full time MBA from IIM . I got this. Does MBA from IIM makes sense after this course ? or Should i take this course and then go for specialisation in any field from outside US ? Or just ignore the course and shift my job ?
i am more inclined to this course + GMAT with specialization in a field.I need you views on this .
Plz dont say that Profs Yawn, and poor infrastructure etc. I just need how good is the certification in market ? Does it add anything to my CV.
This is Upasana. I have 5 yrs of work exp in IT. Now i want to move from technical to Management track. I am planning to go for
Executive Global Business Management Program from IIM , Lucknow but i dont have any idea about the Course. Is this course really worth, will it help me in changing carrier track.
