After coming through almost all important threads (am a regular visitor of PG after knowing about CAT, MAT exams before 1 year), i thought of starting my cat preparation from this year itself.
So senior , i need help in preparing for CAT.
Need suggestions. From were to start from.
Reference books, newspapers, magazines etc....

cat was a bit of a disaster for me. but luckily got thru nmims.
but this is good to see an initiative by malayalis in pagalguy. i can remember the thrill of starting a fresh season of mocks.

the greatest favour you can do to yourself would be to build your profile. From my personal experience, i have seen that everyone who is aiming for a b-school is obsessed about the first stage. CAT.
infact it is the second stage of gds and interviews where candidate will face his biggest hurdle. (Good institutes are focussing more and more on acads and profile diversity.)
Pretty much anyone with dedication can score a good percentile. What we can't do is change the past!
Complete your UG with a good percentage.
Do something that will stand out like being in the editorial board of your college magazine, or organize a college event or if you are good at sports or arts, get some certificates in that.
One of the most commonly asked interview questions is "why should we select you/ what will you bring to your batch"
so imagine if you can say "i play the guitar and i would love to be in the IIM X band!!" or "i love quizzing and would like to represent XXX and win prizes all india blah blahblah"!
So make your profile unique.
Another thing you can do is to improve vocab. Read a lot. Novels or philosophy or whatever that interests you.
Unlike quant, it takes a huge time to make visible improvements in verbal scores.
So if you start your verbal preps early, almost 50% of your work will be finished by the time you start cat preps!

Thanks Joe for your invitation.I took CAT 2011 which was a big disaster.I have problems in Time management and my problem solving speed is low.:( I am working out very basic level questions from each section now.But I take a lot of time,esp Quants and DI-DS.What are the good books available in Kerala,covering short-cuts and a good number of good questions?Currently,I am using MAT material of TIME to cover the basic level questions.

quantum cat is a very good book for qa..........starts from very basics and contains shortcuts...........

Career Launcher proctored Mock 1 is on May 18th and i guess TIME aimcats by May end..
So kindly share the Test series that you are planning to take..
I haven really decided on which all , most prob. CL and either one among TIME or Testfunda is what i hav in my mind..
Though I got almost all the calls I could have got even with 100%ile, I did not do well enough in my view...... Had a very bad start...... then tried to make up for it...... at the end preps again went bad...... this is the list for the season......

Bits is not really top notch when it comes to mba. so if u want the top notch a-grade colleges then bits is not for u. But yes, it is obviously better than those xyz institues of mngmt that keep cropping up at evry nook and corner.
