Imagine if all the people who could not get through TISS last year were to post it all here, where would u go to ask your queries??You are more than welcome to ask your queries and I would be happy to answer them. But please do not post irrelevant stuff here
Dear sir,
With due respect to you as a mentor and guide for Tiss aspirants I would
request u to let people post as they wish to unless its something
objectionable. PG is a public forum and all the puyz are free to post as they wish to. Almost all the forums on PG are
dedicated for queries this being not an exception. You can any way skip
it if its unuseful or not concerned to you. Anywayz I would still try
not to be maudlin and post anything futile.
Last but not the least you are doing a great job by solving our
queries.
Looking forward to your guidance in the coming exam.

@v_pant said: Hii...... I am a software engineer by profession. I am very much interested in joining a course of the likes of MA in Development studies and MA in globalization and labor. the bad part is that I am not able to find out the details of the course.I wanted to know that what are the career prospects of these course and whether my being a software pro of 1.8 years experience will hamper my chances of getting admission in this course....thirdly will b delightfully happy if you can tell me how the entrance of the above 2 differ from that of HRM and LR course
As I have stated in my earlier posts, your background does not have any impact on your chances of getting through a particular course, as long as you can justify why u want to be in that course and how will u add value to the batch. That is one of the best things about TISS. It does not let your past haunt your future aspirations, unlike many of the "coveted" and "ivy league" B-Schools of the country.
A sample paper for all the courses will be put up along with the notification. You can go through that to get an idea of what it is like. The paper-1 is common for all courses and consists of elementary mathematics and VA. Paper-2 is different for the respective programs.

First of all, no need to call me sir.
I was on the other side of the table just last year. Call me by my name, which is, Gaurav.
Also, the sole purpose of asking people to refrain from redundant posts is to keep the thread clutter-free. This thread is going to be active for the next 3-4 months at least. Now imagine someone who visits the thread after, say, 2 months. How painful it would be for him/her to browse through the thread to get the info he/she is looking for??
Ultimately, it would lead to duplication of queries which would be waste of time and energy, right??
Hope I am communicating my point
@gdm4u87 said:TISS DOES NOT offer an MBA. It offers an MA in HR. Though, it's just a technical difference. Basically, u will have a post-graduate DEGREE (and not a diploma) that is considered better than most of the MBA programs offered in the country.MA is offered only in HR. Not in finance, marketing, operations etc.For GK, have the habit of reading at least 2 newspapers daily. Also, try and get the reading material provided by various coaching institutes. You can also refer certain magazines like CSR. There is a GK thread on PG. That is also a good source for prep. All the best
So MA in HR is the only equivalent of MBA TISS offers?
How are the placemnts in other courses?
hello gaurav sir,,,
actually i wanted to know the level of maths which appears in the TISS entrance exam..
coz i lacks in that particular realm....all the other sections r pretty good...
and i m the topper of HRM&IR; in my graduation so will it give me an upper edge in interview ?
really looking forward to ur response on maths query... :-)

Ah.. I think we should stop it over here coz of our different perspective. PG is something really close to me and we usually pour our heart out here. Had it been someone's personal forum it would have made sense.

The post above your post is mine. And the first sentence is "no need to call me sir". Please do so

Well, in terms of the difficulty level, arguably, TISS is the simplest of all management entrance tests. It's a speed based test so u need to work more on your speed rather than trying to solve difficult questions by taking more time. This, of course, is for the TISS exam. Do not even try and think of this in exams like XAT.
The point about u being a topper can be a double-edged sword, depending on the panel. Some might consider it as your achievement and that MIGHT give u an edge. I emphasize MIGHT
However, their expectations from u might also be raised because of the same fact. Being a topper, u r expected to know much more about HR as compared to others, right??
This is not to scare u or something. Just outlining the possibilities for u.
All said and done, don't worry too much about GDPI for now. Focus on the entrance exams. You will have enough time to prepare for GDPI once u get the call.
All the best.

Can there be an answer to "How" are the placements in other courses? Does it not depend on how do u define "how"? Just some food for thought.
Having said that, as I have said earlier, TISS is highly respected in the industry and also in other areas where its programs are relevant (hospitals, healthcare organizations, NGOs etc.). Other things being equal (like same program, your performance etc.), you can be sure of getting enviable placements in your course.
I plan to apply for the M.A. in HRM the coming year under the International Students. Any idea how many people do they take in every year who apply through this category?
Hey Gaurav,
My my.. firstly hats off to you and your patience and initiative!!! I went through the whole thread from the beginning and as I was reading some of the posts I was only hoping you wouldn stop what you started 😃
Nevertheless thanks a ton for this thread, I would want a good bit of guidance into cracking TISS this year.
My honest worry is the DI/DS part! Could you suggest if I need to enroll myself for any class as my focus is only TISS and no other entrance which means that as stated in your earlier posts since I have not prepared for CAT,XAT etc I would earnestly request you to help me a lil bit from the scratch.
Awaiting your reply
Regards,
Ann
Hi Gaurav
I had little idea about TISS before I came accross the thread. I even visited the website but still need your help.
TISS offers so many Masters Programmes. What is the order of preference(generally)?
@drcreative said: Hi gaurav, myself yash medical graduate, presently preparing for civil services mains n also doing MA psychology , last year I applied for HO/HE despite of getting good marks in written (72 and 75) n good interview i didnt make it to final list (scored pathetic in interview 18/14) my query: notification will be out in next fifteen days, my dilemma is whether to apply for HR/HE/HO or HO/HE/MPH. in later case all 3 course is related to health and as a medical graduate it will be easy to justify to interviewer .in case of HR i dont hv any HR related experience so experience column in DAF will almost goes blank. and whatever i write in HO/HE DAF may look incongruent with HR DAF.what happened in your case ,kindly help ,thanx (sorry for asking question related to DAF and interview at such early stage)
See ultimately, it all depends on your interest and what you are looking for as a career. By this time, you must have got a fair idea of that in my opinion.
I myself have done BDS and applied ONLY for HR. It's not necessary that being a doctor you need to apply to health school programs. At the end of the day, you yourself should have the conviction as to why you want to do what you want to do. Only then can you think of convincing the panel. In fact, in my opinion, applying for something like HR+Health-School programs tends to weaken your case a bit as there is little connection between the programs and it becomes really difficult to put your point forward. Again, it's my opinion. It's NOT impossible. Just that it MIGHT BE difficult.
Also, please don't apply to HR just because it has so-called "Better Scope". As I said, you have to have an interest in whatever you do. Otherwise, no matter how lucrative a branch is, you will repent going into it.
Do revert if you have any other queries

There is not a fixed number as such. Like there are no separate seats reserved for international students. You will have to compete with other aspirants in your category to get through.

I might not be in a position to advise you as I do not know how much comfortable you are with the sections. However, a simple method is to write a few mocks and compare your relative performance with other test-takers. If you are scoring above something like 85%ile, you should be fine without coaching classes. If it is something below, say 70%ile, you can join something like a crash course from a good coaching class.
All the best. Do revert if you have any more queries.

Didn't get your question.
Please elaborate as to what you are looking for.
@gdm4u87 Thanks Gaurav!! However, is there any site you would recommend for the mock tests or do I only random about it, I stumbled upon this site http://www.indiabix.com/online-test/data-interpretation-test/. Kindly suggest more in your knowledge.
Also, I had PM'd Sakshi Kukreja in a similar thread from the same group regarding the DI query for which I was asked to give focus on %'s and Ratios predominantly. Is this correct in your experience. Kindly validate.

Ann

TestFunda and TCYOnline provide free mocks which are decent. You can also participate in PG Prepathon
And yes, without percentages and ratios, it's almost impossible to do DI. You need to have a good grip on the two.
Alrite. About the PG Prepathon, I tried participating unfortunatley the server was bad then and it was postponed to 7th due to certain technical snags.
Yeah I realised now when I just took a test in DI that most of the questions there as well covered %'s and ratios. Hmmm.. looks tough to me though, lets see how well I would be able to pull through.
has the notification cone out yet
