[2013-2015] MFC, Deptt. of Financial Studies [DFS], DU Admission discussions

@iamnishant Hi Nishant. Really appreciate your efforts in advising potential MFC/MBE candidates. My background: Xth score: 84%, XIIth score: 88%, Maths:90, graduated BFIA (DU) in 2009, work-ex of 37 months. but CAT scores haven't been good. (87%ile last year). Should I apply for MFC? Is there any preference for work-ex?

That is the main purpose of this thread to provide information to potential candidates so that they can make an informed decision.

Shortlists are always relative and depend upon the pool of students applying to a college

So only you have to take a decision about investing your money into application form but your academics are good and you will also get an additional weightage for grad course. In my opinion, to be on safe side you have to score at least 90 in actual CAT.

Unfortunately, there is no explicit weight age given to work exp. in the entire process however it may be implicitly considered in the personal interview by the panelist.

how many seats are avaliable and how many short listed candidates are called ???
Total seats available - 46

Usually call ratio is 1:5 (for 1 final seat 5 candidates were called for GD/PI) but it may be increase or decrease depending upon the pool of applications received and department's decision.

does mbe has same guidelines/criteria for selection or shortlisting ??? if so then what was its cut off index score last year

were there any sectional cut-off last year ?

Xth - 86.9%XIIth -- 78.1
XIIth Maths - 135/200
ENGG DGPA -- 8.45/10
Currently having an work ex of 3.5years...

Yes, the guidelines followed by MBE for shortlisting were same and the cut-off was 86.88.
No, there were no sectional cut-offs last year.
@PhoenixRoy
Calculate your score as per the guidelines specified in the first post. And make your decision accordingly.

Yes, it is a joint process for MBE & MFC.

GD will be common for the applicants of both courses but interview will be conducted separately for MFC & MBE.

As mentioned in the prospectus for 2013 - 15 batch:

"Selection of candidates would be based on CAT (Common Admission Test, conducted by the IIMs) and candidates €™ educational backgrounds. Overall and Sectional cutoffs in CAT percentile results would be further applied for short-listing General Category candidates for GD/PI."

hi..plz sort out my queries... i am from sc category and my acad are not good or i would i say these are poor.. but i am scoring good in amcat and time test series for Cat. so plz tell me should i apply for MFC or not?? if possible plz tell me last year sc category cut off... plz plz reply soon so that i can take further step
We don't have any cutoff for reserved category seats. Our criteria is to call 5 times (may change or remain same this year) the number of seats for the category. And if the applications exceeds this number then only we call them on the basis of index scores.

For example, we have 2 seats for CW category so we'll accept 5*2=10 applications. And if the number of applications exceed then we'll call top 10 applicants on the basis of their respective index scores.

So GD/PI calls are relative to the pool of applications received for a particular category and subsequently candidates' index scores.

Hope I answered your question.

Please refer to previous post for information about the SC category.

If you are so much into finance, then MFC is definitely a good choice considering that you will be studying the finance domain subjects right from the beginning of 1st semester.

In my opinion, right now you should concentrate on CAT & subsequently securing GD/PI calls. The question of 'which college to choose' can be dealt later after getting final converts.

can any one give an overall ranking of MIB, MHROD, MBE,MFC (on the basis of plcmnts nd an overall experience) i kno it is very subjective but still it gives alot of clarity....

All the courses you have mentioned are specialized courses and it is totally depend upon your choice in which field you want to pursue your post graduation.

for e.g. If you are interested in finance then MFC* is the best choice but if you want to go for HR function then MHROD* is suitable course for you.

So getting to know the rankings won't help you much if you are still undecided about the specialization.

PM me if you need help.

As several times mentioned in the previous posts - GD/PI cutoffs for all categories are relative and will be decided only after taken into consideration: Index scores of applications received & Call ratio.

So we cannot comment as of now whether you will get the GD/PI call or not .

PM me if you have any specific query.

@iamnishant bahut bahut dhanyvad.

@kshitiz_mfc AS per the first post by you.. work ex of the candidate does not have any role in getting a Call for GDPI or in the final selection.. Is that true>?

@anusha.itsme yes. Its true. While in the PI u will have an better edge over the other, if u have work ex.

i applied for CAT under general category.

now can i fill DFS form under OBC category??
Will it disqualify me due to the condradiction.
