Admission Process
All the applicants are admitted to the university courses based on the marks scored in their qualifying degree, entrance examination or admission tests. Candidates need to score above a specified mark in these exams to get admitted to a particular course or discipline. The entrance exams include WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination), GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering), CAT (Common Admission Test), MAT (Management Aptitude Test), RET (Research Entrance Test), GPAT (Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test) etc.
- For the B.Tech course, Calcutta University admission is based on the marks obtained in WBJEE organised by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) followed by several rounds of counselling, one will get the details on Calcutta University official website.
- Admission to the M.Tech, M.Ed., LL.M, M.Sc and M.Sc (Ag.) programmes is based on the performance in Entrance Test conducted by the university followed by a personal interview at its College Street and Alipore campus.
- For the M.Tech course, admission is based on the marks scored in CAT.
- For the MBA course, admission is based on the performance in the CAT or MAT Exam.
- For the BA, B.Sc and B.Com programmes, admission is based on the marks obtained in the qualifying degree. For the B.Li.Sc, Integrated B.Li.Sc and BA-LL.B courses, admission is based on the performance in Admission Test conducted by the university.
- For the PhD and M.Phil admissions, candidates need to sit for the RET followed by a Personal Interview. CSIR / UGC NET-JRF qualified candidates need not appear for RET.
- For the MA, M.Com and M.Li.Sc courses, admission is based on the performance in qualifying examination.
- For M.Tech in Pharmaceuticals and Fine Chemical Technology course, admission is based on the marks obtained in GPAT.

Results and Cut-off
Calcutta University declares the Calcutta University result and cut-off list for its several courses and degrees once the results of their respective entrance examinations are calculated. The candidates need to obtain a score which is equal to or more than the cut-off mark specified by the university to get admitted to their desired courses.
For example, B.Tech aspirants need to clear the WBJEE Cut Off, M.Tech candidates need to clear the GATE cut-offs, MBA candidates need to cross the CAT or MAT cut-offs, PhD and M.Phil candidates need to pass the RET cut-offs and Pharmaceutical students get admitted on clearing the GPAT cut-offs. The cut-offs are relaxed for reserved candidates like SCs, STs and OBCs.

Campus Facilities
The University of Calcutta library keeps a rich collection of over 10,00,000 books. Besides books, the libraries under the university consist of around 2 lakh volumes of bound journals, proceedings of conferences, patents, standards, M.Phil. and PhD dissertations, reports, newspapers, microfilms, maps, manuscripts, CD-ROMs.
The university has a total of 39 departmental libraries. The university provides hostel or lodging provisions for both boys and girls.
There are 16 hostels under the university which can accommodate about 1550 students. The university has a Cricket Ground, Football Ground, Volleyball Courts and Athletics Tracks.
