Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra Overview

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, also known as SMVD University or abbreviated as SMVDU is a fully residential University, the first of its kind in J&K. The University was created under an Act of the J&K State Legislature in 1999. In 1998, the SMDVU establishment was supported by the Jammu region.

This later on turned into a movement, which lasted for around a couple months. Jammu and Kashmir state government had to ultimately agree and State Legislature enacted SMVDU's act of 1999, which made it a technical and absolutely residential university.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University has established itself in the league of eminent institutions in the country. Mata Vaishno Devi University offers B.Tech and M.Tech programmes in various fields of Engineering, post-graduate programmes in Management & Economics, post-graduate programs in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Biotechnology, Languages, and many more.

• SMVDU B Tech fee structure is 4.8 Lacs for the entire course.
• SMVDU admission for M.Tech programmes is done on the basis of marks obtained in GATE as well as the performance in the interview. 
• It is worth to be mentioned that, Shri Vaishno Devi University has no reservation or quota policy for the admission process. Students are solely selected on the basis of their merit only.

SMVDU Katra Admission Process

The admission process at SMVDU Katra is conducted with the help of SMVDU Entrance Examination for admission to the various UG, PG & Integrated Programmes. SMVDU Jammu Admissions for M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Manufacturing and Automation is conducted through National level Entrance Tests and Personal Interviews.

CCMT counselling also plays a vital role in selecting students for M.Tech. Important to note that, unlike most of the colleges in the country, there is no age limit imposed on the candidate appearing in Maa Vaishno Devi University Entrance Examination. 

Candidates who are applying for the B.Tech programme should satisfy all the criteria mentioned in JOSAA/CSAB 2019 guidelines.  The candidate applying for admission must have obtained a minimum aggregate of 60% in their Higher Secondary Examination. SMVDU Placements has a well planned and structured Training and Placement Cell, which consists of Chairman Placements, Vice Chairman Placements, Student Coordinators, Faculty Coordinators, and a T&P Officer.

SMVDU Katra Result and Cut-off

The JoSSA cut off is the main factor for the admission in the B.Tech,  B.Arch and other Integrated Courses at Shri Vaishno Devi University. SMVD university conducts Entrance Examinations for the admission to all the other branches or courses at a different level. The result and cut off is announced later on after releasing these aforementioned results are declared for the year.

SMVDU Katra Alumni Network

The syllabus of SMVDU  is planned and made in such a way that it helps and guides students to appear for and nail competitive exams like NET, SLET, GATE and alike. By qualifying for such prestigious and competitive exams, the alumnus of the University has proved to be a real asset to the institute.

The Alumni network is well maintained and proper communication is maintained with the alumnus with the help of Events and Alumni Meets. Such events include University Alumni Meet, Alumni Association Meeting, Alumni Affairs Meeting, etc.

SMVDU Katra Scholarships

SMVDU has launched Special Scholarships for meritorious students joining the B.Tech., B.Arch. Programmes. The students who will be able to fulfil the criteria will be presented the scholarship in the first semester itself.

The criteria for the scholarship include Up-to 30,000 AIR (CRL) in JEE (Mains) examination, for B.Tech, Up-to 500 AIR (CRL) in JEE (Mains) examination for B.Arch. Along with that, the student is required to maintain a CGPA of 7.5 with no backlogs. SMVDU offers two types of Assistantship programme to its students:
