The admission in NIFT Gandhinagar is done purely based on the merits of the candidates. The admission in the undergraduate bachelor courses is done through the entrance examination conducted by the NIFTs. The admission in postgraduate master courses, the Creative Ability Test (CAT) or General Ability Test (GAT) is considered. A situation test is also conducted after the shortlisting of the candidates is done. The result of the test has to be excellent so that chances of getting admission remain more.

The college has a certain cutoff for giving admission in any of the courses. The willing candidates need to score above the cutoff marks in order to secure a seat. The college announces the cutoff marks after the examination result is published.

The cutoff marks can vary year wise. There are some factors that control the range of cutoff marks. They are the total number of candidates appearing for the exam, the total number of vacant seats in each course, the difficulty level of the question, the overall performance of the candidates in the exam. The cutoff marks are different for different courses and also varies categorically.
