Madras School of Economics [MSE] Admission 2020
Basically built to provide students of India with an educational avenue that provides not just theoretical knowledge but also skills required to face real world challenges and excel at their career of choice, Madras School of Economics is a privately funded independent institution of higher learning.
It boasts of some of the best, highly educated and trained faculty from the field of finance, economics, management and analytics. MSE offers students with PGDM, MA and PhD in Economics programs.
PGDM Admission 2020
The Madras School of Economics offers the following 2-year PDGM programs – PGDM Finance and PGDM Research and Business Analytics. On completion of these PGDM programs students can start their careers in the fields of Economics, Finance, Management, Business Analytics and Data Science.
The course structure is so designed that students acquire theoretical knowledge in their study area as well as practical knowledge that prepares them to face real world challenges in their career of choice. Apart from regular classroom lectures students are provided the advantage of guest lectures from specialists from various fields.
- PGDM Finance
This program offers program-specific courses such as Asset Pricing and Corporate Finance along with electives like Computational Techniques in Finance, Stochastic Calculus, Market Microstructure, Derivative pricing, Financial Time Series, etc.
On the completion of the PGDM finance program students are ready for careers in Finance like structuring, trading and risk assessment and management, etc.
- PGDM Research and Business Analytics
This program offers program-specific courses such as Medical and Finance Analytics, etc. along with electives like Big Data, AI and ML.
On the completion of the PGDM Research and Business Analytics program students are ready for careers in data scientists, or work in Business analysis, intelligence, management, reporting and control, policy formulation, etc.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for PGDM Finance and Research and Business Analytics are as follows:
- Minimum 60% in class X, XII and under graduation (students from the mathematics stream in XII are preferred)
- Undergraduate degree from any recognized university with minimum 60% aggregate
- No arrears or backlogs at the time of admittance to the program
- There is no entrance exam; instead scores from one of the following standardized tests are accepted – CAT, GMAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, ATMA
PGDM Application Process 2020
The Application procedure for both the PGDM courses is simple and completely online.
- Online application is available at mse.ac.in
- Students should follow the link and fill in the application form
- Scanned copies of 10th, 12th and undergraduate mark sheets and the score card of any relevant standardized exam (from the list given above) should be uploaded.
- An application fee of Rs.1500/- should be paid via NEFT and the transaction ID filled in the application form
- Students can opt to apply for one of both of the PGDM courses. Students wishing to apply for both should check the “both” option in the application form.
Last Date for submission of duly filled application form – 30 April 2020
Academic Session commences from – 20 July 2020
Selection Process
For selection into the PDGM programs candidates will be assessed on the following aspects:
- Prior academic performance
- Work experience (if any)
- Scores from standardized test score (any one of the above)
- Personal interview
- Any other factor that can be considered by the selection committee
Interview Selection Procedure
The selection for the interview process is based on the applicant’s score in the standardized tests.
- Both the overall score as well as sectional cut-offs will be considered
- The cut-offs for the overall scores as well as the sectional scores will be decided by the committee. The relevant information will be provided on the official MSE website (mse.ac.in)
- Only candidates scoring as much as or above the overall and sectional cut-offs will be shortlisted for the interview
- Shortlisted candidates will be notified via email or SMS to the registered mobile number
- Candidates who don’t make the shortlist will not be notified
- The interview will be held on campus and students will have to take care of their own travel expenses.
- At the time of the personal interview applicants have to provide an undertaking that they have no more than 2 arrears or backlogs.
Personal Interview
The personal interview is aimed to access the applicant’s general awareness and other general areas like critical reasoning and communication skills. Candidates are required to have strong qualitative and reasoning skills along with good communicative skills.
Reservation and Refund Policy
The refund policy for the PGDM programs is based on AICTE guidelines – refund will be provided with the deduction of processing fees, cancellation charges, etc.
The reservation policy is as per the Central Government guidelines for educational institutions.
MA Programmes Admission 2020
MA 2-year program
The Madras School of Economics offers 2-year post graduate programs in the following disciplines:
- MA General Economics
- MA Financial Economics
- MA Actuarial Economics
- MA Applied Quantitative Finance
- MA Environmental Economics
The above courses are offered in collaboration with Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur. Students are provided with the advantage of campus selections that are conducted in the 3rd semester from some of the prestigious organizations like HSBC, HP, Infosys, Genpact, etc.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria include mathematics stream in Class XII and any under graduate degree from a recognized university with a minimum pass percentage of:
- 55% for general category
- 50% for OBC
- 45% for SC/ST/PWD candidates
MA in Economics 5-year integrated program
A 5-year integrated programme in MA Economics is offered by Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur in collaboration with MSE, where the first three years will be at CUTN, Thiruvarur while the last two years will have to be completed at MSE. The specialization at MSE will be allotted according to the CGPA of the first three years at CUTN.
Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria include Class XII or Class X plus two from any recognized board in economics, mathematics or statistics stream with an aggregate of
- 60% for OC
- 55% for OBC
- 50% for SC, ST and PWD
PhD program Admission 2019
MSE offers a PhD program in Economics. The institution is recognized by the Madras University as well as the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur.
The selection process is based on the entrance exam score and research proposal. Students have to provide a dissertation to complete the course. Students are also provided with financial support based on merit.
