IIIT Surat – Indian Institute of Information Technology Overview

Founded in the year 2017 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), IIIT Surat Gujarat is one of the twenty Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) set up in the country.

The institute works on a not-for-profit Public Private Partnership basis and is jointly financed by industry partners like Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers & Chemicals, Gujarat Informatics Limited (GIL) and Gujarat Gas Limited (GAL) along with the State Government.

The IIIT in Surat is currently mentored by Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) and will continue to be so until the completion of its new campus.

The academic structure of IIIT Surat was built to deal with the obstacles faced by the Indian Information Technology Industry and the growth of the domestic IT Market.

The institute provides mainly two UG programmes in Engineering consisting of the streams - Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering. Admission to these courses is conducted on the basis of performance in Entrance Exams like JEE Main. On UG level of education, IIIT MBA is also offered.

Indian Institutes of Information Technology Surat presently offers only the degree of Bachelor’s of Technology in the field of Information Technology.

The Indian Institute of Information Technology in Surat provides degrees in branches of Engineering only. • Surat IIIT offers a full-time 4-year long B.Tech programme. Aspiring candidates need to clear their senior secondary examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and anyone among Chemistry, Bio-Technology and Biology from a recognised board/university. International applicants need to score minimum marks of 1800 in their SAT exams on subjects of Physics, Mathematics Level 2 and Chemistry. In terms of fees, the institute charges INR 67,500 for tuition per semester and other additional costs that depend on the year of the course. In total, the IIIT Surat fees for the B.Tech degree amounts to 5.65 lakhs.

IIIT Surat was established quite recently in the year of 2017, and the first batch has not completed its 4-year course yet. The placement cell of the institute is trying hard to prepare the students for the upcoming placements in the year 2021. How is IIIT Surat?

Like most colleges, IIIT Surat address is easily communicable and well-connected via railway and air routes with the rest of the country. The college is still young and hence does not have an official cultural or technical fest of its own yet. 

• Hostel: There are hostels for both girls and boys well-equipped with basic amenities including mess facility. The total hostel fee is different for girls and boys but lies somewhere around INR 16,000 per year along with with a mess advance of INR 15,500 which is collected per semester.

• Location: The official IIIT Surat address is Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Ichchhanath, Surat (Gujarat) and the college is about 8 km from the Surat International Airport and 10 km from the Surat Railway Station.

• Others: The other facilities offered by the IIIT Surat Campus include a central library, canteen, auditorium, computer labs, bank and sports provisions.
