Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras – [DoMS IIT Madras], Chennai Admission Process

DoMS IIT Madras offers a popular MBA program with a duration of 2 years. In order to apply for the course, candidates need to possess a valid score in CAT or GMAT.

The MBA program at DoMS IIT Madras offers six specialisations, which are listed below:

To be eligible for the MBA program at DoMS IIT Madras, candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks from a recognised university. Additionally, they should have a valid CAT score. Candidates belonging to the reserved categories(SC/ST/PwD/ Defense Personnel) are given a 5% relaxation of marks. Final-year students can also apply. There are a few exceptions to DoMS IIT Madras Admission Criteria: IIT graduates with a CGPA of at least 8 are exempted from CAT scores, defense personnel must apply through government agencies and are also exempted from the CAT score, and company-sponsored candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of work experience in the sponsoring organisation. For international applicants, a GMAT score is required.

The process of selecting students for the MBA course at DoMS Madras involves two steps:

Step 1: Shortlisting Process

The shortlisting process takes into account the following parameters:

• CAT score
• Past academic performance
• Work experience
• Academic Diversity
• Gender

Applicants are shortlisted based on the total score calculated by the institute. The CAT cutoff for the MBA course is 96 percentile.

Step 2: Final Selection

The shortlisted candidates from all categories are finally selected based on composite scores of the Virtual Interview. The final selection is based on the following components:

• Other Achievements

To be eligible for DoMS IIT Madras course admissions to the Executive MBA program, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised institute with 60% marks and have a minimum of three years of work experience.

The selection process for the EMBA program involves evaluating candidates on the basis of their application data, video case study test, and personal interview. The video case study test is conducted on Moodle and consists of objective-type questions. Candidates are shown a video related to business/product/brand and must select the correct answer from the multiple options provided based on their basic thinking, logical, and basic quantitative skills/abilities. The test takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

It is important to note that a few seats are reserved for company-sponsored candidates, who must submit sponsorship letters in the prescribed format from their employers. Both the video case study test and personal interview will be conducted online.

The PGPEX-VLM course is a one-year full-time residential program offered by DoMS IIT Madras in collaboration with IIM Calcutta and IIT Kanpur.

DoMS IIT Madras provides a PhD program in six distinct specialisations, as shown in the table below. The program’s duration is between four to five years.

The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) at IIT Madras offers an MS by Research program for those interested in pursuing a research career. To be eligible for this program in 2024, candidates must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field with a good academic record, and a valid score in GATE, GRE, or GMAT. Candidates with 3 years of work experience are exempt from the above exams.

The selection process for the MS program is based on academic performance, GATE/GRE/GMAT score, statement of purpose (SOP), research proposal, and a research aptitude test (RAT) and personal interview (PI). The RAT evaluates candidates on their analytical, language, and research skills through objective-type and essay-type questions.
