Founded by the Government of Tamil Nadu, the University Grants Commission (UGC) approved Bharathiar University is located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. Established under the provision of the Bharathiar University Act, the university has 13 schools, 33 academic departments and over 123 Affiliated Colleges.

Bharathiar University is a public state university that holds a national rank of 14 among universities. Bharathiar University ranking is 21 overall under the NIRF Rankings of 2019.

Admission Process

All the applicants are admitted to the Bharathiar University in Coimbatore based on the marks scored in their qualifying degree, entrance examination or admission tests (written and practical). Candidates need to score above a specified mark in these exams to get admitted to a particular course or discipline.

The entrance exams include CMAT (Common Management Admission Test), AMU Entrance Test (Aligarh Muslim University Entrance Exam), IPU CET (Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test), TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) etc. 

• For the M.Sc, M.A, B.P.Ed, M.P.Ed, M.C.A Lateral Entry and MJMC courses, admission is based on the performance in Entrance Exam plus marks obtained till the 5th semester of graduation.
• Admissions for the M.Sc, Master of Library and Information Science, M.Com, M.A, M.Ed, Master of Social Work, B.Voc and PG Diploma courses are based on merit.
• Bharathiar University Coimbatore MBA and MCA courses’ admission is based on the marks scored in TANCET followed by various rounds of counselling.
• For the M.Phil and PhD courses, admission is based on marks obtained in the CET Exam.

Results and Cut-off

Bharathiar University declares the cut-off list for its several courses and degrees once the results of their respective entrance examinations are calculated. The candidates need to obtain a score which is equal to or more than the cut-off mark specified by the university to get admitted to their desired courses.

For example, MBA and MCA aspirants need to clear the TANCET Cut Off, M.Phil and PhD candidates need to clear the CET Exam cut-offs. The cut-offs are relaxed for reserved candidates like SCs, STs and OBCs.

Scholarships 

The scholarship and assistantship programmes offered by Bharathiar University to its students include the following:

• Higher Educational Special Loan Scholarship for SC-ST Converted Christian students: Candidates need to be residing in the university hostel. The annual family/parental income should be less than INR 50,000.
• Government of Tamil Nadu post matric Scholarships for BC-MBC student/scholar candidates: The candidate needs to secure a minimum of 75% attendance in his or her previous year of study. The annual family/parental income should be less than INR 1,00,000.
• Government of India Scholarship for SC-ST Converted Christian Adi-Dravidar students: The candidate needs to secure a minimum of 75% attendance in his or her previous year of study. The annual family/parental income should be less than INR 1,00,000 for SC students and less than INR 1,08,000 for ST candidates.

Bharathiar University has a Library which keeps a rich collection of 1,73,823 volumes, subscription to 150 international and national journals along with ten leading newspapers, 278 annual reports, 9,134 back volumes, 150 journals, magazines and periodicals.
