When Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani posted on her Facebook account, “Taking your questions now… Ask away!” on Tuesday evening, little did she know that it would elicit such a good response from parents and students alike.
The Minister’s post received 6,228 comments and led to an aggressive and question-answer session with students/parents on a range of issues.
In the four-hour long session, parents asked questions related to the management systems, teachers’ recruitment, students’ intake in colleges, entrance exams, fee hikes, Sanskrit language as a subject, and much more.
However, the session was mainly dominated by queries about the ongoing NEET row and students’ unrest at NIT, Srinagar. The students from NIT, Srinagar, sought HRD Minister’s response on education facilities and student’s security on the campus and in the Valley.
A lot of parents and students were a furious lot but the Minister maintained her calm and patiently responded to all the queries in the session.
However, some students were disappointed as the Minister failed to respond immediately and answer them satisfactorily. Some of them have been upset with the Minister over her ignorance over issues affecting them.
Overall, the session was smooth and ended on a good note.
