A career in the field of engineering is the
cherished dream of millions of Indian students. And the JEE Main is
often the first step towards realising this dream. The JEE Main is the
sole examination conducted for admission to many top engineering
colleges across India, including the NITs (National Institutes of
Technology), IIITs (Indian Institutes of Information Technology) and
many other institutions funded by the central government. The NITs
together offer close to 15,000 seats. Similarly, the IIITs offer close
to a thousand seats. Various other institutions funded by the central
government also select candidates based on their performance in the JEE
Main. Further, many institutions funded by various state governments
also consider performance in the JEE Main. In fact, Gujarat,
Maharashtra, Nagaland, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand and
Odisha have chosen to consider the JEE Main for admission to
institutions in these states. Earlier, candidates were selected to these
institutions on the basis of state level exams conducted by these
states. Thus, the JEE Main has become even more important for
candidates.
Further, for admission to the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology), candidates need to first appear for the JEE Main. The top one and a half lakh candidates (approximately), on the basis of performance in the JEE Main, will be eligible to appear in the JEE Advanced 2015. Admission to the IITs/ISM Dhanbad would be purely on the basis of a candidate’s category-wise rank in the JEE Advanced. But, in order to be eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced, a candidate must first secure a rank among the top one and a half lakh candidates who appeared for JEE Main 2015.
All of this makes the JEE Main a very important examination for Indian students who wish to pursue a career in engineering. No wonder then that last year, over 13.56 lakh students appeared for the JEE Main 2014.
Do note that the application form for JEE Main 2015 must be filled online. There is no offline application for this examination.
