At what rate were the oranges sold per dozen if by bargaining to get one orange per rupee more, I saved Rs 16 per dozen?
1. Rs.8 2. Rs.4 3. Rs.5 4. Rs.12
1) Lets say the value is 100 in 2001
100 * 1.25 * 1.20 * 1.1 = 125 * 1.20 * 1.1 = 125 * 1.32 = 165
So the value increased by 65%.
Bud good initiative but can u explain this problem more clearly?

You just have to know this.
When ever something increases by 10%. We can directly multiply it by 1.1 and get the final result. Because 1 is actual amount and that .1 is 10% increase.
So for 10% it is 1.1, 15% is 1.15, 23% is 1.23 etc.

Cool thanks! Im a genuine Quant zero. This section shudve been named after me!
1.Profit and Loss
2.Percentages
3.Time and Work
This order is good....!!!!
Hi Puys;
Since this thread is dedicated for basics/zero-level study for quantitative aptitudes then IMO you can't miss Vedic-Maths/Speedo-Maths . Speed calculation techniques are a must to ace in Sec-1 in new CAT pattern.I will gladly post concepts & sums..............

Thats very nice of you. So are they books or websites? Most of us would benefit from the speed techniques

I don't think Vedic maths is required for Quant section,Because for vedic maths you require lots of practise, and i think we don't have too much time to practise it....In CAT 2011 i scored 98%ile in section-1 but screwed up in section-2....So my suggestion is just go through basics and try to apply short tricks and practise geometry question(I am very weak in it,and in my slot i got around 5-6 questions of geometry 😞 )..........

Quant and DI/LR book of Arun sharma is sufficient to crack section-1.........Solve each and every question of it.......
I guess this question of mine is more apt for this forum than the original Quant forum.
What is modulus and when are we supposed to use it?
Or is it oo dumb for this forum too? 😞
I would suggest Book on Numbers.
Numbers Demystified by Nishit K.Sinha.
That's an awesome book if you really wanna have some good knowledge in numbers also sufficient to crack any question on Numbers..obviously with a little presence of mind.

Bud Can u also sugest a book that provides (step by step or brief)explanatory solutions for along with the problems.
One problem, sorry if I sound too silly with such sums but, I am nt able to get an answer to:
2 trains travel in opposite directions at 36km.hr and 45km/hr. A man sitting in the slower train passes the faster train in 8 secs. The length of the faster train is?
80
180
120
150
110
Please tell me your approach as well. Only answer is of no use>

That is awesome book dude....just chk it out....
Rest Numbers is such a topic where anything is unpredictable....once go through this book and then tell me....what your understanding was and what it is??
I am sure you will have a great difference between the two.
ATB and Hope that helps....
After this you can chk your knowledge with Quantum CAT and Arun Sharma but Quantum CAT first and after that Arun Sharma not vice versa....
