After the addition of 35 liters of water to a can of diluted milk, the concentration of milk in the can becomes 30%. Now, further 40 liters of water is added to the can and the concentration of milk in the
can gets reduced by 10 percentage points. How many more liters of water must be added to the can now such that the concentration of milk in the can becomes 8%?
(a) 160 (b) 180 (c) 175 (d) 200
Sol :- Let initially M liters of milk and W liters of water are present in the can.
After adding 35 liters of water concentration of milk becomes 30%.
M/(W+35) = 3/7
7M - 3W = 105 ------> A
Now further 40 liters of water is added then concentration of milk becomes 20%.
M/(W+75) = 2/8
8M - 2W = 150 ------> B
Solving equation A and equation B we get,
M = 24 and W = 21.
Now we want to add some x liters of water to make concentration of milk as 8%.
24/(21+75+x) = 8/92 ( Here we took 8/92 because in 100 , 8 gives 8% )
24/(96+x) = 2/23
By solving we get x = 180.
So Option B

the method i got...but buddy how did u get these values = 3/7, 2/8 and 8/92?
ajayjr Saysthe method i got...but buddy how did u get these values = 3/7, 2/8 and 8/92?
M/W = 3/7 means there is a total of 10 liters out of which 3 is Milk and 7 is water which means 30% concentration of milk. Similarly in 2/8 Milk concentration is 20% and in 8/92 milk concentration is 8%.

oh ok a little confusing...cant we simply equate them to 30/100, 20/100 nd 8/100.....the main thread guys did 😛
ajayjr Saysoh ok a little confusing...cant we simply equate them to 30/100, 20/100 nd 8/100.....the main thread guys did :P
You can equate to 30/70 but not 30/100. Because if you equate it to 30/70 then it means Milk is of 30 liters and water is of 70 liters in a total of 30+70 = 100 liters. If you do it by 30/100 then total amount becomes 130 in which Milk is 30 liters and water is 100 liters.

A contractor employed 30 men to complete the project in 100 days.but later on he realized that just after 25 days only 20% of the work had been completed.
a) how many extra days, than the scheduled time are required?
b)to compute the work on the scheduled time how many men he has to increase?
c)if the amount of work is also increased by 20% of the actual work ,then how many extra days are required but the number of men remain constant
d)how many men should be increased so that work will be completed in 25 days less than the scheduled time.?
hello
can anyone tell me the fast way to calculate exact percentages for questions like:
60/151....
ive tried approximation techniques but that dosent help...plus the answer options are quite close..as in 40%, 38.60%, 39.50% , 39.73%
thanks.:
Sorry Guys
Was devastated quite a bit by my previous results...took a break for sometime to pull up my self and i am back for all of us...and for all the Zeroes and for the to be heroes.....
Good Morning to All of you...

Hi
As far as my understanding goes.....it is always not possible to be exact but you can be very very close to the exact and that would be enoiugh for the answer to be deduced from the options.....
Here goes the explanation....
now 40 % of 151= 15.1 * 4 = 60.4
Also 60.4 - 60 = 0.4
0.4/151 is what we need to subtract from the 40 %
Now look at the options
40%-cant be this very easily and well known.
38.60%-its 1.4 % less than 40 % that's also not possible as because 1 % constitutes of 1.5 but we have only got a deviation of 0.4
39.50%- here we are 0.5 % less than 40 % now 1 % is 1.5 so 0.5% will be 0.75 but we have a deviation of 0.4 so not possible
39.73%- only option left
also if you will calculate the % given here is also approximate...
Hope that helps.....
Practice %ages you will need to be thorough with recripocal equivalent they confuse a lot and need to be revised now and then...

here is another technique to solve these kind of fraction in to percentage
question is
60 /151
first subtract 1 from denominator
now calculate as a percentage
(60/150) * 100 = 40 %
now find out 1 is how much percent of 151
according to no 1% = 1.5 =3/2
2/3% = 1
now calculate 2/3% of 40 %
and then subtract from 40% you will get the ans
1% of 40%= 0.4
so 2/3% of 40% = 0.4*2/3 = .8/3 = .266
now subtract from 40 %
40 - .266 = 39.734% this the right answer:clap::clap::clap::clap:
Milk..................water
x.........................y
x........................y+35
x/(x+y+35)=.3---------(1)
x.........................y+75
x/(x+y+75)=.2----------(2)
from (1) & (2)
x=24 & y=21
let x litres be added
24/(120+x)=8/100
(120 isiliye kyunki total volume x+21+35+40+24=120)
x=180
Hydrocker - Buddy this is what im talking abt....as u see here they ahve equated it to .3, .2 and .8

hi Ajeetaryans can u answer my query as hydrocker is offline at the moemnt
--Erased---
ajayjr SaysHydrocker - Buddy this is what im talking abt....as u see here they ahve equated it to .3, .2 and .8 :banghead:
Bhai see clearly they took .3,.2,.08 as in 30/100,20/100,8/100 because on left hand side in denominator if you see it is not the quantity of water but the total quantity present in can . They took x+y+ some quantity which is total quantity in can. But in my explanation i took only quantity of water in denominator which is y+ some quantity.
So if it's Quantity of milk/Total quantity then its 30/100 = 0.3 and
if it is Quantity of milk / Quantity of water . It is 30/70.
You can do it anyway.

b)to compute the work on the scheduled time how many men he has to increase?
c)if the amount of work is also increased by 20% of the actual work ,then how many extra days are required but the number of men remain constant
d)how many men should be increased so that work will be completed in 25 days less than the scheduled time.?
a)in 25 days 30 men complete only 20% work
so total work will complete in 125days
so 25 days extra required to complete the task
b).in 25 days 30 men complete only 20% work
so total work will complete in 125days
total work = 30*125 = 3750 man days
but his projected days is 100 days so
25 days work = 30 *25 = 750 man days
now remaining work = 3750 - 750 = 3000 man days
let he hire x more people to complete the task in time 75 days
(30+x) * 75 = 3000
30 +x = 40
x =10 men require to complete the task in time
c)
n 25 days 30 men complete only 20% work
so total work will complete in 125days
total work = 30 * 125
= 3750 man days
and now 20% work increase so
total work 3750 + 750 = 4500 man days
total days required = 4500/30
150 days
so extra days are 50 days are require
d)how many men should be increased so that work will be completed in 25 days less than the scheduled time.?
in 25 days 30 men complete only 20% work
so total work will complete in 125days
total work = 30 * 125
= 3750 man days
3750 = 25*30+ 50(30+x)
3000 = 50(30+x)
x = 30 men are required

(a) 160 (b) 180 (c) 175 (d) 200
let initially milk is x lt
x/(x+35) = 30/100
so 10x = 3x + 105
7X = 105
X = 15 LT
quantity of milk initially 15 lt
milk = 15 lt
water = 35 lt
add 40 lt water to this mixture
milk = 15
water = 35 +40 = 75
now we add x lt water to make concentration of milk = 8%
15 /(90+x) = 8/100
1500 = 720 +8x
780 = 8x
x = 780 /8
x = 97.5
need add 97.5 lt of water in mixture
