Hello! You Are Not Selected for MBA programme of IIM Sirmaur currently. Keep checking the website for updated offer list. What does this mean? Will there be more waitlist afterwards? Adcom please clarify.

"You have been offered provisional admission to the MBA Programme Batch (2020-22) at IIM Sirmaur. " Does it mean I am selected or waitlisted? Anxious so need to get clarity.

TIA!

Have anyone got waitlisted or waitlist number?

The unknown truth about MBA

Hey @CarryMinatiFC great amount of detailed information. Looks like you were/are a student of IIM Sirmaur itself. I would not comment anything on the details but would rather say something about MBA from IIMs itself

Many of the students join baby IIMs in hope of getting advantage of the IIM tag name. It would have its own sets of merits and demerits. Merit is that there are many companies who treat all IIMs at the same level, be it the baby ones or the old ones. They offer the same package across all IIMs. With Exceptions to ABC ofcourse. Even IITs and Private colleges like MDI or XIMb are not offered the same package. I cannot name the companies but trust me there are many. Demerit is that students tend to think that they will be placed because they are in an IIM. And so they lack the diligence to build their profiles in the 19 odd months of MBA.

Secondly, there is something called as "shortlist". For all the aspirants out there, shortlist is a term you will hear time and again. Nobody knows what the criteria would be but shortlist will always be there. So until and unless you have good enough academics to back you up, you wont even sit for the high packages. Many a times, the HRs shortlist candidates based on a predefined number. So it does matter how many students apply for a particular company. For instance, if the HR has decided to shortlist 30 then it doesnt matter if 200 students apply or 400. Private colleges have more than 300 students in each batch but baby IIMs only have about 150. Lesser competition means better chances of getting shortlisted.

The college adminstration has no part in our placements. You won't even know when any person from the Admin joins or leaves the college. The placements are always conducted by student driven body which is the Placecom. Faculties are also unaffected because most of the baby IIMs have visiting faculties from various older IIMs and other well known colleges. Infact, this helps them to choose the best faculties available and not just depend on the inhouse ones.

Coming to the CTC part, all of the sales jobs are target based. So they always have a variable part associated with it. Big companies do offer lucrative joining bonuses, transportation refunds, flight tickets and other benefits. These benefits again differ from IIMs and non IIMs. It may not also differ sometimes but mostly it does. CTC is the overall cost of what the company spends on you.

Coming to the average and the median values, the situation is all the same in all MBA colleges. Top 25% students get the best offers, next 50% get the average ones and final 25% get a lot less. I think a better way to judge this would be seeing if there are lesser no of international placements because international placements do inflate the figures to a huge extent. Not to forget, International offers have many components which are never given to the employees. My college had an international company offering about 60 LPA out of which 25 LPA was the insurance component.

Finally, being an IIM passout, you get a lot of respect and recognition at your work. People dont discriminate you based on which IIM you are from. They see that you are an IIM passout and you are treated differently.

During MBA, its not about getting into bigger IIMs when your profile is not good enough with respect to CAT score and academics. MBB comes to older IIMs but it shortlists only the ones with NIT and IIT background. Its all about getting opportunities with lesser competition. I would choose a college with a good name and lesser batch strength over a college with great name and huge batch strength. Being in a college with less batch strength and good profile, ensures your shortlisting everywhere - be it a committee/club selection or placements. And you desperately need CV pointers as a club or committee member if you are not having good academics.

I think all the above info would surely help the aspirants to take a better decision. Always remember, no matter which college you join, you can't get placed if you don't build your profile and your communication skils are not good enough. You would realise that at the end of your placement season. Happy MBA !!!
