The 7th Issue (January – March 2022) of the Healthcare Management Newsletter – Illumine is based on the Third Annual Healthcare Management Conference that was held in January 2022. The theme of the conference was ‘Futures Thinking in Indian Healthcare’.
The newsletter gives a brief not only on the concept of ‘Futures Thinking’ but also all the three-panel discussions that were a part of the conference. The ‘Summer Solstice 2021-22’ organised by the Student Alumni Relations Cell is one of the most anticipated competitions amongst the students of PGP-2. The competition recognises the best internship project and awards the students with the prestigious Gold Medal. The event, held in a hybrid mode, was not only fruitful for PGP-2 but also for PGP-1. While the participants presented their work to the distinguished alumni panelists, it also provided substantial knowledge and insights to the junior batch who are about to begin their internship journey.

The Centre of Creativity Innovation and Design Thinking of GIM organised ‘Shutter Island’, a photography competition and exhibition where the photographers of GIM put up their best work for others to gaze and ponder upon, while deriving impetus. Participants put in beautiful and mind-blowing photographs across various categories like ‘Campus Canvas’, ‘Still Life’, ‘Symmetry’, and ‘Monochrome’.

Goa Institute of Management takes immense delight in congratulating Dr Ajit Parulekar, Director, GIM, for being appointed a board member of the Global PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education). GIM has been involved with PRME (a United Nations Global Compact body), and this is an important step towards the future.
This will help GIM to carve out the future of management education and open up several opportunities for the institute’s programmes, centres, and initiatives.
For the first time in its history, Goa Institute of Management convocated the students (Batch of 2020 and 2021) in an online mode. The ceremony began with a mesmerising performance from OxyGIM, followed by an inspiring speech from Dr Ajit Parulekar, Director, GIM. He described how, in spite of all the odds during the COVID-19 situation, the GIM community emerged victorious and achieved 100% placements across all the programmes.
Mr Ashank Desai, the Chairman of GIM, discussed the rich heritage and values that the institute has been instilling among all the graduates to create leaders that the industry demands. Dr Neeraj Amarnani, Dean of Academics, stated that GIM has provided students with great opportunities and expects them to follow and work on their dreams.
The ceremony concluded with the convocation of all the students by the respective Programme Chairpersons Prof Venkatesh Naga, Dr Rathish Bhat, Dr Arif Raza, Dr Abhishek Ranga, and Dr Amiya Kumar Sahu. Best wishes to all the new alumni of GIM.
We were honoured to host Mr Krishna Gopal, Global Head - Sales Enablement at Tech Mahindra, as the guest speaker for the Aspire’22 series organised by the Corporate Relations and Placements BIFS-GIM. He spoke on the topic ‘Guiding Principles for the Corporate and Professional Journey’.
“If you wish to stand out as a professional, you must keep up your commitment and honour your word, come what may.", said Mr Gopal as he addressed the batch in an interactive virtual session. He started the session by laying down the mantras for building a fulfilling career. Emphasising on the importance of discipline, he educated the students on the impact of taking ownership for one’s work.
He concluded the session by highlighting the role of maintaining relationships at every level and building a collaborative mindset.

‘Kashmir to Kanyakumari’ - a phrase that probably every Indian is accustomed to. GIMites got a taste of
Southern India, as RaZzMaTaZz - the Cultural Club of GIM organised ‘The Deccan Carnival’.
Students attired in the traditional Dhotis and Kanjeevaram sarees danced across the campus as drum beats reverberated throughout. The performances by the students added glory to the event.
At GIM, the beauty of life is celebrated as students indulge in the diversity of the Indian culture with every festival.
Brainvista - The Quiz Club of GIM organised ‘QFiesta – The Quiz Carnival of GIM’, one of the most awaited events. The quizzing competition consisted of four rounds where participants were supposed to answer all categories of questions thrown at them at the speed of flash. The event happened in the span of two days with OxyGIM – The Official Band of GIM gracing the event with their melodious voices on the first day.
Brainvista, indeed, found the best way to keep the adrenaline of the teams rushing high and pushed them to battle in the field of quizzing. Congratulations to all the winners of the event.
We were honoured to host Ms Anupriya Krishnan, Talent Acquisition Leader, Upstox, as the guest speaker for the Aspire '22 series, organised by the Corporate Relations and Placements Committee – BIFS.
“Investing into the financial piece of technology is smart.”, Ms Krishnan said, as she addressed the class, explaining how fintech is transforming the financial landscape and opening up new opportunities. She also highlighted that this space has created opportunities not only to employ but to venture as well.
Ms Krishnan led a discussion on how the financial industry is enabling other industries and India’s current stage in the fintech life cycle. She also shared her experience being a part of Upstox and how the company has shifted from paperwork to paperless work. Mr Neeraj Amarnani, Dean – Academics and Ms Arpita Amarnani, Associate professor at GIM also addressed the students and elucidated on the importance of fintech.

At Wine Tasting Etiquette organised by Ribandar Talks – The Leader’s Interaction Club, GIMites got to experience the fine world of wine.
Mr Rakesh Awaghade, a sommelier, gave a walkthrough of the winemaking process, featuring the distinct types of grapes used for each variety and techniques adopted to make that perfect bottle of wine. With a bottle catering to every kind of palate, participants got to savour the diverse range of Fratelli wines.
Events like these are an important part of preparing future managers with the mannerisms expected in the corporate world.
We were honoured to host Ms Poonam Vijay Thakkar, an award-winning Marketing Leader and Mentor of Change - NITI Aayog, as the guest speaker for the Aspire '22 series organised by the Corporate Relations and Placements Committee – BIFS.
“Failure is not real, failure is a mindset.”, Ms Thakkar explained to the students as she discussed the necessity of recognising failure, resilience, and establishing a growth mindset. She also highlighted the difference between failing and becoming a failure.
Ms Thakkar spoke about how to approach a leadership career as a philosopher, strategist, and executor in depth. She also explained the types of student leaders that will bring in a new era of upheaval. She wished the students luck in their future endeavours by giving them a success formula that comprised 98 percent of the ‘Never Give Up’ attitude.

The Entrepreneurship Cell of Goa Institute of Management conducted Utsav 2022, where every participant got to experience the thrill of becoming an entrepreneur. The students of GIM unleashed all their creativity in PANACHE’22 organised by Prayas - The Sports Club of GIM where they sashayed down the ramp, cheered on by a jam-packed amphitheatre.
This year’s theme, Thème Ouvert (Open Theme), included an authentic and very eye-catching fashion show stage, with numerous societal issues being addressed through the medium of fashion. The dazzling evening came to a close as Team ‘Fashionable’ was declared the winner and Team ‘Emergency’ was named the runner-up. Hearty congratulations to all the winners.

Energy Economics is a premier field journal for energy and environmental economics and comes under ABDC A* category.
