[Ask PG HQ] : Pursuing a career in Graphic Design

Hmmm. I've seen them making exceptions on a few occasions where there was enough evidence to prove that the candidate was worthy of the seat even though there was little or no experience.

Give it your best shot! 😃

ya sure... ! thanks for the reply.... 😃

I'm currently pursuing a BScIT course. The NID website lists BIT and BSc Comp Sci among other graduate courses that make you eligible for a PG Diploma.

I want to pursue a PG Diploma in Graphic Design; and I want to pursue it at NID !!

So, the big question is, am I eligible?
:|

Well the answer is simple. If you have the intent, it does not matter, at NID, what your qualification is. Only thing is, you should prove it to them that you're very (very) good at sketching and visualizing, through performing well in the written entrance test and studio test and then back it up with a good portfolio at the interview round.

Does that answer your question?

YaY :D
Thanks a lot for that quick reply; I'd been getting all antsy since the time I read about the eligibility criteria on the website. I mean how bad would it be to be all set for NID and then get to know that you're not even eligible! :-(

But you're pretty sure that all I require is a graduate degree and creative aptitude right?

Ya. That's all they're looking for. Empty cups :)

Practice sketching a HELL lot as the competition for Graphic Design is very high. Compile your portfolio well and I guess there's nothing that can stop you if they find you suiting well.

Heheh empty cups. 😁 And yes Im going to work Really hard on my sketching, drawing and doodling!
Thank you.. Thank you soo much once again 😃

No problem! And all the best to you!

It’s inspiring to hear about your journey from Garment Manufacturing Technology to graphic design! Your decision to take the freelance route and volunteer on projects early on must have been invaluable for building your portfolio and gaining experience.

I completely agree with your points on learning from seniors and colleagues—being surrounded by those with more experience really does elevate your own skills. It’s also true that graphic design is still seen as an alternate career by many, but with the growing demand for creative professionals, that’s slowly changing.

For anyone looking to follow a similar path, starting with a solid foundation in design is key. Enrolling in a graphic designing course in Red Apple Learning Kolkata can be incredibly helpful. It not only equips you with essential skills but also helps you build a professional portfolio that stands out in a competitive field.

Would love to hear more about your experience working with different kinds of design projects. What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
